The moon was gone; hidden behind layers of clouds that gve the sky a strange, grey glow. The stars were trying their best to peek out from time to time but the night seemed to be far darker than that. The nights were longer now... Much longer.
He galloped across the plains, trying to keep his body warm. If he moved throughout the night, relying on his fire to keep him going he could rest throughout the day when the sun could warm his coat. It had seemed like a good plan and it had gotten him this far... It was better than remaining in a cave all winter with his family at least.

The nighs were colder than she would have liked but since her family spent most of the time active at night it wasn't all that much of a problem. She could sleep out in the sun and that would usually keep her warm throughout the night.
She'd wandered a good bit away from home the night before and was watching the few stars that were out twinkle in a spring while she rested.

His usual run brought him by a small spring that he often stopped at. He did this time, just as he had the night before. "You're become a creature of habit, Pyre, boy." He murmured to the reflection staring back at him from the surface of the spring before making it disappear into ripples upon touching it with his nose.

It was rather odd to be come upon in the are and not to be seen and as a slightly familier stallion appeared out of the gloom and laughed softly.
She was tucked back into a bit of underbrush and with her legs hidden she did blend into the night rather well. So it wasn't all that odd that he hadn't noticed her, especially if his thoughts were somewhere else.

He drank slowly, knowing well enough from a bad experience that the cold water could carry quite a kick if it was taken in too quickly after all of the running he'd done. He didn't want to risk his stomach cramping in an area like this... Not knowing what sort of things lurked in the darkness.
He stepped back from the water, giving his head a toss that sent burt orange locks fluttering against his neck, fire flickering up around his legs as he stood still. Such a quiet night... As most nights had been.

"Lost in thoughts of cloudy sky's and disappearing stars?" She stepped a bit out of her hiding place and closer to the edge of the spring. Pyre hadn't noticed her yet and that meant he wasn't paying attention all that well.

"Lost?" He snorted softly as he shifted on his hooves, trying to hide the fact that he'd been caught off guard... By a mare at that. "I don't get lost... Not while wandering and not in thought." He smirked, glancing over his shoulder. "And what is a little girl like you doing out on a night like this? Hmm, little Siren?"

"Sneaking up on unsuspecting stallions it seems." Though she hadn't really snuck up on him since she'd been there already. "I could ask you the same thing sparky."
She leaned down to take a sip of the cold water and tried not to get her curls in it. Having a wet mane in this weather wouldn't be a good thing.

"Sparky... Now there's something I haven't heard before." He snorted softly as he shook his head. "Forgotten my name so quickly, have you, Seirei?" Brow lofting he looked towards her once more. "Shouldn't you be home, curled up and warm?"

"No, i have not." She smiled as she straightened back up and looked at him. She'd asked her father what it had meant and he'd told her pyre's usually had something to do with death. She couldn't see that in the stallion anywhere and wondered idly how he'd come about that name.
"It is not that cold. There is less of me for the chill to get it's fingers on."

"Seems t'me like you have." He gave his head a light toss, eyes gleaming with mischief as he looked at the mare. "Calling me something like 'Sparky'... Sounds awfully childish to me... Maybe it's less that you've forgotten my name and more than you really are just a silly little girl."

"You don't call me by my name. So must i call you by yours?" He did spark so it fit in a way. Though her father had warned her about fire and how it was never something that you should play with.
"If you have no need of 'silly little girls'..." She turned so she could walk around the spring on the side that wasn't covered in brambles. She could leave him to whatever he had been doing. She picked up a soft tune, humming to herself, as a way to distract from the other not wanting to speak to her.

"There you go with that siren's song again." He turned to follow after you. "Wouldn't it be a more effective way to walk away from me if you weren't singing in an attempt to lure me in again? Such a cruel little Siren..." He tsked softly, trying not to laugh. "Aren't even going to tell me how you've been before you walk away?"

"Why would you care how i've been? I'm just a silly little girl." She grinned over her shoulder at him before she continued on with her song.
It wasn't her fault that she liked singing or her fault that he happened to like the song. Though it did mean that she could tease him about calling her names since he was following her.

"He wouldn't... Because he's just a silly little boy." She snorted softly as she emerged from where she'd been standing, silently watching the interaction between the two. As she moved out of the brush flames licked at her mane, dancing along with the amusement that was quite clearly seen in her eyes.
His face fell as he resisted the urge to roll his eyes, putting on a bright, obviously fake, smile. "Ember, ember burning bright... What brings a mare like you out tonight?"
