ToS

Our Terms of Service includes the Gaia ToS. The rules below are in addition to anything required by Gaia Online.

1.) There will be no flaming, teasing or other harassment out of character. In character posts are fine until someone gets offended or feels threatened. If you feel threatened by in-character actions let the player know. If they continue then let a moderator know (if they aren't already watching). Also if you feel threatened alert Gaia moderators. They are probably oging to be on more often than we are and they can take more action than we can.

Here we list some specific offenses that we will be monitoring for.

a.) Literacy/Spelling : Some people do not speak English as a first language. Others have language or learning disabilities. These people can still contribute to a gaming environment. This sort of offense will only receive one warning before resulting in a permanent ban from the guild.

b.) Noob/Newb : Any slang like this that insults someone for being inexperienced is forbidden. People will not be able to learn and get experience if they are chased away. We all start out as "noobs". This offense will receive one warning before resulting in a permanent guild ban.

2.) A moderator is the same thing as a DM/GM. Their word is law. They decide if you can play or not. Respect what they say or be kicked out. This offense results in a strike. See the strike system for more details.

STRIKE SYSTEM
This works kinda like baseball. If you get three strikes, you're out. You then have to reapply for admission to the guild.

Strikes result from violating the ToS and committing minor offenses such as getting too many complaints or ignoring moderators.

We will send you a PM letting you know that you have earned a strike and why you earned the strike.

Once a strike is one month old it will fall off of your record.

Your record will be kept as a private thread viewable only by the moderators. You may ask for a copy of your record at any time. Note : if we can make the thread viewable only to you and not other members then you will be added to the list for that thread.

End Terms of Service.

House Rules

This will be a little more informal, but it will make playing here allot easier if everyone follows these guidelines. Blatantly violating these house rules may result in a strike.

OOC - out of character - please use double parens for out of character comments. ((example)) Sometimes these may be necessary to clarify in character actions. Please do not carry on OOC conversations in IC threads/forums. There will be a specific area for OOC interaction. Any OOC posts in IC areas will be deleted if they do not relate to an IC action.

IC - in character - This is the standard form of post in the DKP forums. This may be accompanied by dice roles and necessary OOC descriptions.

continuity - posts/stories that make sense - if your character is talking in the bar they can not also be out on an adventure in the woods. Please limit IC posts to one area of the forum. If you are leaving an area please describe your exit from that area and then describe you entrance into the new area.

NOTE: occasionally areas may be locked out by moderators. This might happen for several reasons, some of which are combat or OOC conflict. Please consult a moderator if you wish to enter a locked out area.

actions - Unlike the normal free form system actions in the DKP forums are based on a concrete rule system. A character may have a class and specific skills and attributes that are characterized by a number. These are then used in dice roles to determine the outcome of actions. When you describe your actions please keep in mind that they are attempts at an action. You are not guaranteed success or failure. Not all actions will need rolls. You can walk down the street just fine, but acting on another character or performing a skill with any degree of uncertainty will need a check. If you are unsure whether an action needs a role or not ask a moderator. Most story arcs will be using the D20 system, so feel free to consult those books for any information.

End House Rules

Character Sheet Rules

All characters must be approved by at least one moderator.

Character sheets may vary from story to story, however there are some default guidelines listed below.

Unless otherwise noted ...

Characters will start at level 1

Characters must be of a standard race and class

Abilities will be bought based on a point system. 75 points may be distributed between abilities with none being higher than 18 and none lower than 3 (before racial modifiers).

Here is a link (this link is not hosted by Gaia!) to the D20 rules system. This information is provided freely by Wizards of the Coast as part of the Open Gaming License project. This link is a download of the 2.2Mb zip file containing all the information in the SRD.

Long Term Leave/Absences

We know that at times RL can be a pain in the butt and you may need to withdraw from play for awhile. If this is the case please take the time to gracefully withdraw your character from play. This will help with continuity, making for a more enjoyable experience for everyone.

At the very least please notify a moderator via PM or OOC note that you need to withdraw from play. If you do not have the time to pull your character out of play then a moderator may be able to handle if for you, or put your character on "autopilot" where the moderator controls your character's actions.

End Long Term Leave/Absences

Posting Conventions

To help keep posts readable we will be using the following posting conventions.

When your character is speaking please put their words in quotations, just like you would see in a book. If you like you may color their speach for emphasis, either for moods, or the help emphasis somthing. Bold and italic may also be used, but please note that bold and italic styles will have a different meaning when not inside of quotation marks.

Example: "Hello there little guy! What are you doing out here all alone?"

When your character is thinking please leave the text outside of quotes and make the text in italics. You may color this text as well.

Example: Jeez, I hope these guards are as stupid as Fox said they would be ...

For character actions please use standard text. If you wish to emphasize some of the action text please stick to bold or coloring only. Please do not color the entirety of your action text.

Example: Galina runs up to the guard with an expression of horror on her face, ready to distract him so everyone else can sneak by.

Since this is a rule based system, many actions will need to be accompanied by dice rolls. If you are familiar with the D20 system then use your best judgement on when they are needed. If you are uncertain if you need to roll or not, post your action and a moderator will either inform you of what you need to roll or place the roll in your message for you.

End Posting Conventions
