I've been suffering of pains in my back since I was 7~9. Now I'm almost 18 and it got really worse. I'm in middle of consulting doctors. Also I used to get sick a lot in the throat areas. I once was told by an ENT doctor (Ears-nose and throat) that he noticed I had some sort of "gland" that could be felt in a side of the neck. He told me "I don't know what it is, just come back if it gets bigger or causes any pain". Well, it's weird. I don't get sick that much now, but I feel that 'gland' sometimes bigger and sometimes I don't feel it. When it is there (when I feel it) it hurts if I touch it. There has been a LOT of cancer cases in my family (maternal and paternal) and I wanted to know if this might increase any risk of getting cancer and also if there is any symptoms. Thanks.
EDIT: I got today the results from the second labs I had done. I'm really scared because I read something about Sjogren's syndrome, Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE or Lupus), sclerosis, scleroderma and a lot of weird names. Today is saturday (29) I'll go to a doctor (or make an appointment) right on monday. I really am worried about my health.

Some types of cancer are genetic, I think? Not all are, so it's best to check with a doctor.
For example, last year my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer. She had the lump and a lymph node removed, and she had radiation treatment. She's in remission now. Because the cause of breast cancer is unknown, it can't be proven to be 100% genetic, but it is already well known that there is a maternal link. So because my mother had it, I believe my risk for it goes up something like 30%.
I hope your test results come back for anything negative though. Please keep us posted!

Update! <3 *phew!* NEGATIVE ON EVERYTHING AND EVERYTHING ON IT'S NORMAL LEVELS. Now the thing is I need to get mooore x-ray stuff and MRIs because they still don't know why I have this pains D:
Sucks. No money in my house. So I'll probably have to use all the money I get in the next payment of the schoolarship D:< good thing is my professors didn't asked for expensive books this semestre, lol.
Edit: [Jan.30.08]Posposed until I get 100% sure I'm not pregnant. Can't get the xrays and mri's done if I am. I'll go to the doctor this saturday (Feb.02.08) Edit: Not pregnant. Will procede with all the calls D:

Sorry for the belated post, but congrats on everything! Hopefully the doctors will be able to find out what's causing the pain, eh?

Mistery solved! I have sclerosis/levoscoliosis and arthritis... at 18 gonk .
Seems that a falling I had when I was 10 made my discs stop re-generating and now they won't generate/change anymore. So I have to be very carefull because now if they start to 'get old' or getting weak, there will be no turning back.
The worst would be staying paraplegic, but that's and EXTREMELY weird possibility, and just if I don't take care of my back.
