hmm, don't really know how to help you with that. Maybe it's just not the way you worship. I'm not a huge bible reader either, but if I"m really upset I go to my bible and open to either a random spot, or to a book I'm feeling compelled to read. I started reading Eccleasiastes (sp?) a few days ago cause I was upset.

You can always look for a good story in the bible, and read that.

and I do that too.... alot. I read much, but I lose interest. Every now and then I find a goos story though.

I have trouble reading it and getting into it sometimes too. I wouldn't blow it off by any means, though, because I think it's much more than a form of worship. Reading the Bible individually is important because otherwise how will we learn about and come to know our heavenly Father? He doesn't just want a bunch of drones who go to church and sing. He wants all of the children He has adopted and made princes and princesses in the kingdom of heaven to know Him, and love Him, and worship Him because of that love.

The Bible is God's way of revealing Himself to us, both Old and New Testament. He is the same God all the way through; the New Testament usually proves a more interesting read to me, and I love Psalms.

Don't just look at the Bible as a book. It's much more; it's your way of learning about and coming to know your Savior better. My YOUT 201 professor suggested that, if we had trouble with Bible study, we find a short book of the Bible and read it through in one sitting, something like Ephesians, Galatians, or I, II, or III John. Read that the first morning, and then the next few days read one chapter a day, then divide it up by the headings that are added, then by paragraph, and then work your way backwards (go from paragraph to section to chapter to whole book again). That works well for me getting into studying them.

I used to find the Gospels the most interesting; especially the parables in Matthew, Mark, and Luke (John is the only one of the Gospels that does not contain any parables.) Those are what I read when I was younger, and somewhere I have an entire list of references for all the parables. I used to sit and read through Matthew or Luke (Mark only has 4 if I remember right, and Luke records the most) throughout the day. The Gospels are good to read as well because it tells the story of Christ, who is to be an example for our life.

If you look in Acts, you get a good picture of the early persecution of the church and how the early leaders in the church (the apostles) stood in the face of persecution and continued to do their work, even until several were beheaded or killed or stoned for it. You get the stories of amazing men of God who stood up for what they believed no matter what, and they are inspirational in looking in our own life and how we are to be about the Word of God and the story of his death and resurrection.

Paul's Letters and the General Letters provide direction for various issues found within the newly established church. II Timothy contains much on the setup of the leadership in the church and the board of elders. Other letters talk about how we should be loving, others about what to do about sexual immorality found within the church, others about marriage, and other guidelines for Christian living.

Revelation is by far the most difficult book for reading in the New Testament. I have trouble getting through that because the imagery, though intriguing to me, goes straight over my head in what it might mean.

In the Old Testament is harder to get through, because of the genealogies, running through the kings, and all kinds of other things. Esther and Ruth are good as far as stories go, and other than that you might have to look up story references if you're looking for just that. There are some amazing truths about God found in the Old Testament as well however.

I have no idea how much of this helps and how much ended up just being some kind of rambling, but there you go. Hope it helps some. Your perspective on what the Bible is can play a key role in how you view reading it; if you see it as just another book, it is kind of boring. If you see it as something that teaches you truths about the Creator of the world, and the One who died for you and loves you and believes you are worth everything, and as a way of listening to what He has to say to you and His way of showing you who He is and how He feels about you, it can get pretty interesting though. In the last year or so, I have found it amazing. There are passages that offer me comfort when I'm upset, and others that convict me about some sin in my life, and others that just teach me more about my Lord and Savior.

The Bible is amazing. There is so much contained in these pages...Love, adventure, romance, history, poetry, songs, wisdom, prophecy...

Yes, sometimes I don't "feel" like reading the Bible either, but just like what piratekitty4 said, "The Bible is God's way of revealing Himself to us". I like to think that the acrostic for Bible is:
Basic
Instructions
Before
Leaving
Earth
By seeing it that way, it's a reminder to me of the importance of God's Word and what it means about how I should live my life here on earth.

I've got to say that piratekitty4 has stated many of the things I wanted to say and I'm glad she did because I couldn't have said it better myself whee . Well, I've found a good resource of where, how, and why we should read the Bible from a site called gotquestions.org. From the site you can find more information about the Bible (and a whole lot of topics).

One thing to remember when you are planning to read God's Word is to always pray and ask God for guidance as you read the Bible. By asking and diligently seeking, He will give you the desires of your heart--Psalm 37:4 (especially in regards to reading the Word).

"You diligently study the Scriptures because you think that by them you possess eternal life. These are the Scriptures that testify about me."
-John 5:39

"All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work."
-2 Timothy 3:16, 17

And did you know that not only can you read God's word, you can also hear it? I don't just mean in the metaphorical sense, but in the literal sense. There's something called The Bible Experience. It brings the Bible to life through the actual words spoken by actual people. I personally have the Bible Experience audio because sometimes I need to "hear" it being spoken. However, this should not replace the actual need to read the Bible itself.

Now, if it the matter of studying God's word, I recommend Rick Warren's Bible Study Methods: Twelve ways you can unlock God's Word(Rick Warren is the author of The Purpose Driven Life). These study methods include things like: Devotional, Chapter, Thematic, Topical, Biographical, etcetera. Studying God's Word brings simply the "reading the Bible" to "applying the Bible".

I hope that I have helped in some way. Take care and God Bless you with your Bible reading!! 4laugh

videos or radio shows often help with that. I have trouble reading it to. I tried a program called faith comes by hearing for teens. And i listened to it on my cd player every night before i went to bed. It ewas the new testament, and it really helped me get into it. The best thing if you want to stick to reading is get a translation you can understand ( the message is a good one) and pray before you begin. Ask God to open your heart to a passage and to help you focuss. Get some where quiet. Our church calls this the "Prayer closet"
