NAME: Phantom Nebula

LOCATION:
The Nebula is located approximately in Sector T-20.

DESCRIPTION:
Composed of hydrogen, ammonia, helium, argon, and traces of carbon, the nebula is backed full of various gasses. Electromagnetic storms make sensors pick up faulty images, hence the name "Phantom Nebula." However, a simple sensor adjustment can assist in cutting through the interference.

CLIMATE:
The nebula is an extreme of both hot and cold. Some areas are only several dozen degrees above absolute zero, while others rocket into the thousands of degrees near dense pockets of gas Starfleet believes to be forming proto-stars.

PEOPLE:
None, nebula is uninhabited.

RESOURCES:
None

ANY OTHER ASTRONOMICAL DATA ABOUT THE SYSTEM:
Scanning equipment will not work well when you first enter the nebula (3 posts.) However, after the initial problems, the sensors will be able to compensate for the interference and operate normally.

The USS Wolf arrived at the outer edge of the phantom nebula. David was seated in his chair, and stared into the nebula.
Begin a sensor sweep of the area outside the nebula... tell me if you find anything.
After about an hour, the scans were finished.
There's nothing out there sir.... Just empty space.
Ugh.... guess that means we're goin in....
Into the nebula?.... Yes sir.
The vessel slid neatly into the nebula, slightly shocked by the magnetic storms within.
Recalibrating sensors sir..... this is alot of interferance..... i'd say about two days to filter.
Two days?!.........
Guess we'll be here awhile....
......Alright, let me know when you've got it filtered. In the meantime, scan what you can... if you have a garunteed trace on forester, inform me ASAP.
Yes sir.

After a few days, scans were coming in, but not at full strength as estimated. However, they could filter out false images now. Upon scanning the limited area they could, they found nothing. David anxiously ordered the crew to move to another location to scan there. If they had to, they would scan this place inch by inch.

After several days of finding nothing, the crews at the sensors would get an echo of something back. It could have been many things. The radiation and electromagnetic disturbances within the nebula could create sensor ghosts of just about everything, however, this was something different...

A small signature of a trilithium hull...

And the faintest echo of a distress call...

Something was out there, but it would take alot more searching and recalibrating until they could get it down for sure...

The scanner showed nothing but static, and several false signatures caused by the nebula. But, suddenly, something irregular to the flow showed up.
Captain, Look!
Huh? What... You found it?
I...I think so... but there's too much distortion around to get an accurate position.
So they are out here....
Alright filter the scans some more. Once you've a good Idea of it's location, contact me immediately.

Yes sir.
David headed to a room lower down on the ship. It had a large window intended for viewing the space outside. Normally the room was dark and empty looking to compliment the space out there, but it was glowing a yellowish orange hue, reflecting the nebula's light. The room was essentially empty, and only had a single chair that David brought from his room.
Upon entering the room, David stared into the bright nebula, and walked closer to the window. Walking slowly towards it, thoughts racing through his mind, he grabbed the back of the chair and leaned towards the window. This is where David liked to think, as it was quiet, and no one seemed to know about it other than himself and Johnny. The reason it was built this way was because this was similar to the one on the Enterprise-A, based on a layout he'd seen at the academy.
While staring out, David looked to see if he could see the ship out there.... Obviously there was no success, so he stared for no reason.
Quite a view huh?
Hm?.... Yeah...
David didn't see him enter, and still wasn't completely aware he was there.
Right well, the scanners are almost complete, we have an Idea of the direction it's in, but not the exact location.
Huh......... well...... Let's move that way... a bit.
Yes sir.
Johnny walked away, punching commands into a PADD at incredibly high speeds.

((Srry, read the OOC post I made))
After what seemed like forever, the sensors were finally recalibrated, and were working normally. The science officer on duty alerted the captain, and David rushed to the bridge. Upon entry he found his chair, and began dishing out orders.
Alright, is it the forester?
Dunno sir... But it's definately real.
Alright set a course, let's see what we find.
Yes sir.
We're also getting a garbled message... sounds like a distress call.
....Really?.... Can we answer back?
It's worth a shot.
Alright, let's try it.
Unidentified vessel, this is Thompson, captain of the USS Wolf of the United Federation of Planets. Respond please.

A garbled message would be received shortly afterward.

Quote:
*KSHHHKZST* of the Fede- *KSSSSSSST* -orrester. We've *WHIRRRRRRRRSSSHH* -and were atta- *PSSSSSHHHHH* -creature. Please hel- *KRSSSSSSSSSSST*

And the message went silent...

......ETA?
Thirty seconds sir.
Alright, go to yellow alert, seems like the Forrester is in trouble.
Sheilds were raised, and crews alerted, the yellow light glowed throughout the bridge and many lower decks. Engineering crews were scattering about the engine room, and other officers to their various stations. After a moment, the Wolf arrived within a few hundred kilometers of the distress calls origin.

What they would find would be completely shocking...

The Akira Class Forrester was drifting, seemingly intact, but her windows and running lights were dark. The blue of her warp nacelles flickered and dimmed, then pulsed slightly, as minimal power seemed to be flowing through them. The usually fiery red bussard collectors were dark as well. For all intents and purposes, the Forrester seemed dead in space.

But that wasn't the shocking part...

The shock would come from what was seemingly attached to the hull of the ship. The saucer section and the weapon's pod was wrapped by what appeared to be long flowing tentacles. The creature's tentacles led back to an elongated body, not unlike a squid, and was even complete with a large glowing blue eye of sorts. Pulses of blue seemed to flow up the black tentacles and body of the creature and towards the center area of the tentacles.

A deep space organism... And it appeared to be feeding...

Huh?!.... What the!?
.....Scan it!....

Already am.... It appears to be syphoning energy from the forrester.
......Any survivors aboard?
Unknown sir..
David turned to tom, and spoke in an absurdly organised tone, considering the circumstances.
Well if there are, have them transported to here immediately. Keep them quarentined temporarily too, just in case the creature released something dangerous into the vessel...
Got it!
Tom ran to the main transporter room, to oversee the transporting.
..Do you think the creature may be intelligent?...
Not enough data to make a decent assesment sir...
Hmm..... Can we get it off without harming it?
A tractor perhaps, but odds are it'd take the vessel with it.
David let out a low groan.
Well, if it comes toward us, use a tractor beam, and reverse it to repel the creature... I'm going to the main transporter room as well... Send a security and medical team down too, just in case.
Aye captain.

The creature seemed to take little notice in the USS Wolf, and continued to feed on the energy from the Akira Class.

Meanwhile, communication had been established, and the crew of the Forrester was ready to transport over to the cargo bays of the USS Wolf.

Walking down the halls, David met up with the medical team halfway there. They were joined a few seconds thereafter, by the security team.
Bridge to Thompson.
David taped his badge and replied while still moving.
Go ahead.
We've established contact with the forrester, the crew are ready for transport to cargo bay one.
Acknowledged, any change in the creatures behavior?
None sir.
Alright, keep an eye on it, thompson out.

Finally they arrived at the cargo bay, and they went in just as the forrester's crew began materializing.
Looks like you guys have had an interesting time.... you alright?
