There is a group on facebook entitled "Because I read Twilight I have unrealistic expectations in Men," of which I am a proud member. biggrin
Do you think this is true? Obviously, we dream about our dream guy, but has Twilight raised our expectations to an unrealistic degree? Is that good? Or bad?
I dont think its changed my expectations, but its helped me to look forward and hope I'll get my very own "Edward" someday.
What do you think?

i definately agree. I have heard that before, and when i read it, especially when i read alot of it at one time, I start thinking that i will never find a guy like edward, even though thats the only guy i want. I think the book has raised my expectations, but i just worry taht it will get me nowhere and i won't ever find a guy like that.

Yes, I'd say it has raised my expectations just a little bit. But I know that the majority of guys won't live up to them. It's ok with me, I try to think realistically, too ^^

Hah. I think I'm a member of that group. Or one like it at least.
I wouldn't say he's "ruined" my chances at finding a normal guy persay. He was kind of my dream guy before even reading Twilight really (cursed vampire obsession). But now having a character exactly like my dreams out on paper has definitely changed my perspective. In a half good half bad way.
Good because it's helped me realize things I like (and even dislike) more in guys. It's made me realize the kind of relationship I may have someday (without so much danger or drama), and it's helped me hope.
At the same time, I think my expectations are a tad high. I dream of non-existant things, and occasionally I lose hope.

Yes, I agree. But admitting it to myself is really sad because there really is no one in this world that can be exactly like Edward and you all know that (unless you've been completely brainwashed) and so yeah, my expectations for men are very unrealistic and since I know I'll never find anyone that can cover every expectation I have, I try to stick to the one's that are possible for humans. lol

Now, is it a bad thing to have raised expectations?
Now, vamprism and glittering may be a little much, but is it a bad thing to expect a guy to open a door for you? Or to not ogle at a hot girl hitting on him? (okay, a tad of a stretch, as far a teenage relationships go, but we can wish) Its not necessarily a bad thing for teenage girls to have these kinds of expectations, it could save some people from a lot of heart break from the high school a** hole, when they were just looking for someone to love them.

I agree. ^.^ I think that it has raised some womens expectation of men, as far as maners and such go. Which is a good thing, considering many women go for any guy just to be in a relationship. I just hope my standards aren't too high for someone to reach. ^.^

same here. after reading twilight and the other books, I was completely astonished on Edwards manners and behavior. I really want to see some of that kind of stuff in a guy, but I'm afraid it will be too hard to find someone like that. I mean, at least as good-mannered as Edward. I really hope to find that guy though. lol. 4laugh
(i also think having the kind of kiss thats in my sig below would be pretty nice also...except without the blood.....er...yea...)

oh wow, I should join. lol Yes, I completely agree although not only because of these books. Disney and other romance books give me unrealistic views of men. Its sad really...
