Christmas had come and gone, and it was lovely. However, the snow had not. Day after day, he had sat by the window and watched it pile up outside. Every other day, he watched his Lu or Keiran stomp out through it to wherever they were going. Pointedly, he had been denied the outside, even when he was bundled up as well as he was now. He'd been stuck inside, helping with his little brothers where he could, and generally playing the obedient son and helper.

Until one faithful day, this day, when Lucas looked at the thermostat and told him to go outside and play. There was still a bunch of snow outside, but the college student was too exhausted to try and keep everyone entertained. Not only that, but he felt the boy deserved a little fun outside, recalling his own time as a boy making snowmen and snow forts.

"But ONLY for a couple hours, alright? Don't make me go get you." He told the boy, putting on his best stern face. Of course, in the child's four-armed grip, he was reduced to a sighing pile of nothing. He went to go lay down for a nap.

Canti burst into the outside world, taking in the chilly air in long gasps. He was adorned in long sleeves, pants, and the gloves and scarf recently given to him by his Secret Santa. It was good to be in the fresh atmosphere again! Just about to head out to the white picket fence, the boy let out a soft yelp as he found his foot sinking beneath the wet snow. THAT would not do! He couldn't get to the street this way! And that was how the ant ended up in his front yard, shoveling snow determinedly in a methodical path towards the road. There were only a few yards to cover, and about a foot of snow to go through. The white slush flew everywhere, left and right. He was halfway through the job in ten minutes, long antennae bobbing furiously. Icky, cold snow! Decievingly white and clean... blocking his path...

Today was the day! The boys had received new sleds for Christmas and they were eager to try them. Unfortunately, they had to wait for one of their parents to be free. What with Penn and his ‘bringing home the bacon’ as he called it, (though neither boy had seen their father bring home large amounts of pork…) and their mother’s tending to the house; they had to be patient. Both children nearly brought down the house when their mother finally gave in and agreed to take them to the nearby park to sled.

The moment the door was open, the Sascha dived bodily into the snow off the walkway in the yard. “Look, mama! Snow angel!” he giggled flapping both his arms and legs in the snow. To which Gotts sighed and helped the boy to his feet to dust the snow off his belly.

“Joo’r supposed to be on yer back…” Aus sighed as he tugged his sled by its rope behind him. Blinking a bit as his eyes adjusted to the sun reflecting off the snow, he looked a few houses down at the spray of white kicking up from the yard.

“Hay, der is…Wat is that person doink, mother?”

“Shoveling, it looks like. A task you two will become quite acquainted with in the future, my boy.” Gotts said with a smirk.

“Let’s see he vhants to go vit us!” Sascha gasped, taking off up the sidewalk before either his mother or brother could stop him. Or at least made short bounds in the deep snow as he called to the other boy.

Twin antennae perked like two alerted snakes at the sounds that were drawing ever closer. The little worker glanced up as the jaguar boy came hopping down the sidewalk. He was calling to him! Four, glossy black eyes blinked simultaneously, a big smile stretching itself across the boy's obsidian face instinctively. The boy was smaller, and younger than he, which no doubt warmed him some as the appointed big brother of his own house. Stabbing the snow next to him with the shovel, he waved with his two right arms.

"Hello neighbor!" He greeted, "Can Canti be helping you today? Does your mother want him to be doing your driveway too?" Glancing back from where Sascha was coming, he could see Aus and Gott, and waved to them as well.

As he got closer, it became more apparent that the other boy wasn’t just moving really fast; he DID have an extra set of arms after all! Sascha’s eyes grew round as he came to a halt at the end of where Canti’s walk would be once the snow cleared. Totally floored by this discovery, the young boy could only cry out.

“WOW!! Four arms!!”

“Sascha, that’s not very nice. What do you say?” Gotts corrected then felt himself go flush as he was addressed as the boys’ mother as well. Inside the home was one thing, but outside was just humiliating for the man.

“Oops, sorry..” the young jaguar boy said hanging his head a bit, but quickly looking up to smile back at Canti, “Ve’re going sleddink! “Vant to go sledding vit us?”

He returned the wave, following the trail his son had made. “Why, thank you, young man, that would be very nice of you. I’d be willing to pay you for it too.” He offered.

“Are joo a bug?” Sascha said, peeking from around Gotts’ wing. Studying the older boy curiously from a distance.

At such a blatant statement, Canti only tilted his head and grinned a little wider. Yes, four arms! They were very useful, too! He could hold a mop, a broom, a duster, and vacuum all at the same time! As the guardian reproached the boy, however, his smiled faded a little, almost as if he were getting the scolding as well. However, he was distracted quickly by the question.

"Sleddink?" He echoed, glancing to his walkway, then cautiously beginning to try and make his way the rest of the way to his fence. "Ooh!" He gasped as he spied the little wooden instruments, never having seen such things before. "Yes, yes! I would be liking to try something like that! But... only if it is ok with my Lu."

Right about then, a tall, red-headed man decided to poke his head free of the house. A cigarette hung from his lips, and his cheeks were dotted with what looked like green scales. He eyed the bunch at his gate, hitching his brows curiously, a mite suspicious as he puffed out smoke from the corner of his lips.

"Oi, brat!"

"Keiran! Sledding!" The ant perked, turning towards the redhead. "Can I leave?"

"Yeah, yeah, whatever. Toss the paper." He grunted gruffly. As long as more kids weren't being dropped off here, fine with him. When the soggy paper was flung at the door, he disappeared again. Well, that was easy enough. He hated human winter.

"Pay? With monies?" He was right back on subject, probably figuring that Keiran was going to go tell Lucas where he might be going if Gott agreed. Proudly, he told Sascha, "I'm an ant! My name is Canti."

All three strangers stared at the door as it came open. Gotts’ greeting getting cut off at the knees before it even got out of the gate as the red-head called for the paper and gave the boy permission and vanished all at once. He scratched at his temple slightly and sighed smiling at Canti.
“Yes, with money. Certainly wouldn’t expect you to do it for free.”

Sascha cheered and hopped up and down happily. They got to play with their new friend! This good day was going to be a great day! Not expecting a straight answer, Aus came around from his hiding spot and smiled back, “I’m Ausleir.”

“I’m Sascha,” The other twin said happily then looked around in confusion, “Hey mommy? Can I share mein sled vit Canti??”

“Sure you –may-, honey.”

Keiran was curt and rude- that was nothing new to Canti, so he dismissed it right away. Had it been Lucas, they might have been standing there for the next hour or so, having wait while the parents talked and exchanged information. Someone like the redhead, though, didn't want to be involved, could care less. Less work for him if Canti was being carried off by the neighborhood pervert.

"Canti never had money before..." He mused to himself, nodding fervently when the twins introduced themselves. "Okay! I'll remember! You have neat names." He told them sincerely, opening the white gate and stepping out.

"Yaaaay! Where do we go to sled, Sascha and Ausleir's mommy?" The ant asked the adult, tugging at his own scarf excitedly.

“Please, call me Gotts.” He said with another polite smile, inwardly begging; anything but ‘mommy’.

“Danke.” Aus said, puffing a little with pride. “Joo’r name is nice as vell. Zer are som hillz in zee park.” Aus said pointing toward the collection of trees about a block up. “Zat is where ve are goink.”

“Ja! Und joo can sled vit me!” Sascha said offering one side of his sled’s rope to Canti. He was eager to see how well someone with four arms could play with a sled. He’d have to remember to invite him with them to play water pistols and that he’d be on his team in the summer.

Gotts lead the boys to the park, making sure that they looked both ways before crossing the street and everything. Once there, he sat himself down on a bench nodded. “Okay, boys. You have fun. Come get me when you get tired.”

"Okay, Gotts!" Canti complied cheerily, nodding. This whole mommy-daddy ordeal confused him sometimes, and he was rather glad he just had 'Daddy/Lu' and 'Keiran'. Listening to the odd, accented words of the boys carefully, he nodded slowly.

"I'll be happy to!" He responded just as cheerily to Sascha, taking the rope in three of his hands and towing it with him easily enough as they traveled along to the park. Once they got there, he loosed one hand and clapped happily.

"Should we have a race?" He asked the two smaller children, eying the hill, then looking back at his abdomen. Doubtful that would fit on the sled. It would likely be alright to drag behind, though. It was more or less a large version of a tail for him at the moment, not knowing what to do with it.

“You two can go first, I vill be the ref.” Aus said offering his sled to Cani. “Zat whey et von’t be unfair.” He didn’t mind sledding second. There was no telling if these things were safe and sometimes sacrifices had to be made for discovery. Or so he learned from the History Channel. He made his way down to the bottom of the hill drawing a line in the snow for the finish line.

“Goot idea!” The darker furred boy wagged the tip of his tail as he grinned, “First von down?” He tilted his head as he noticed Canti looking at his abdomen. “Vhat’s wrong?”

Yes yes, good idea! Though he felt bad for making the other one wait to ride his own sled. Thanking the boy and waving to him at the bottom of the hill, he began to make his way over towards the sled.

"Oh, nothing! I am just to be wondering if I'll be fitting on the sled with you if we share," He said lightly with a small laugh, wiggling the rounded black attachment lightly before straddling Aus' sled. Lowering himself carefully, he dug his heels into the snow and gathered up the pulling rope, other hands gripping the front. "Is this right? Winner can verse Ausleir!" He offered, eying the hill in front of him. Scary! But hopefully, it would be fun. He certainly wasn't going to ruin anyone else's good time!

"Ausleir, you call it!" Canti called to the paler twin. That would be fair, right?

Admittedly, Sascha didn’t know the first thing about sledding but what Canti was doing looked correct enough to him. Sit on sled, hold on tight, have fun! Simple as that, right? He nodded enthusiastically to the older boy, happy to see that he seemed to fit on the wooden sled. He did the same on his own sled. “Ja, looks right.”

“Ja, I von’t let my brother cheat.” From the bottom of the hill, Aus cupped his hands either side of his face to call toward the other two were waiting. “Okay! Ready?? Set—“ He waved an arm, “GO!”

As soon as he heard the signal, Sascha pushed off the top of the hill to start his decent down the hill. “Vhahoo!!”

There was a brief snort from Canti, sending some steam up into the cold air. Cheat? He doubted anyone would do such a thing! Maybe Keiran, since he was so mean... but Keiran was an adult, and these were kids. Kids couldn't be bad, right? He'd yet to meet one, anyway.

As Ausleir called for the start, Canti gave himself a hard push, screaming a little when he took off into thin air. He'd shoved too harshly, and for a moment, he was flying a horizontal path while the hill dropped away vertically. It didn't take long for gravity to right him however, yanking him and the sled back down onto the snow. Then he was speeding down the slope, clinging for dear life to the front, his purple hair and antennae slicked back by the wind. Even though he felt like he should close his eyes, he could not force himself to, frightened and exhilarated by the whizzing scenery. By the time he was beginning to get used to it, he was at the bottom of the slope... and still going even though he'd passed the line.

"How do you stooooop?" He called, attempting to wave his arms and put his feet out. The latter seemed to work, though he pretty much tipped off to the side and lay in the snow for a moment, panting. Lucas had never let him do anything like THAT before! For the moment, he wasn't really thinking about who won, looking up to see if the other boy had had as much fun as he did.

“C-Canti!” Both boys yelped, the ruckus rousing the attention of their guardian. Sascha half leapt half tumbled off the sled as he ran over to where Canti had fallen. Joined by his brother and Gotts alike they all got there in time to see that he was not hurt but in fact he had seemed to like the ride in then long run.

“Are joo okay??” Aus asked, checking Canti for injuries. He was right to let the boy go first it seems. Right, and now very guilty that he might of gotten their new friend hurt.

“You vhent so fast!” Sascha twittered, relieved to see that he hadn’t been seriously injured. “Joo vere like PEW!!! And ve were like ‘Ahhh~!’ and mom was like ‘Eeee~~’..It vas awesome!!”

There was a large crowd gathering around him now. Well, not large, but both of his new friends and Gott! Were they concerned for him? If he could blush then, he would have, feeling his face heat up just below his exoskeleton. He was a little embarrassed now, but he was alright.

"I am fine." He assured Aus, but moved cooperatively for whatever the boy was checking for on him. He was a little dizzy, chilled, but happy! It had been fun, in the long run. He gave the concerned boy a reassuring pat to the arm with one of his.

"Really?" Canti's eyes glittered at the boy's description, amused and infected by his energy. "I was flying for a moment- it was so scary I scream. I am sorry that I was worrying you. It was fun! You go next, Ausleir!" He grinned, pushing the sled towards the short-haired boy. "I want to watch you! I am being ok, Gott, do not be Eeee!! please?" This was a reassurance to the winged adult, hoping the man wasn't going to make them stop.
