Deep, chocolate fur gave a light shake as the male Ulaya trotted around. The snow was low today, and the air not too cold. And so, Tatenda had decided to go on a walk. Hopefully it'd be a pleasant event for him. And not full of running from meat eaters. Dx Tatenda blinked to the white snow, shaking it off his paws like a kitten. Too wet and...wet.

Aether wandered through what appeared to be a maze of deep emerald fur trees. Unfortunately, such trees were barely visible under the crystalline snow piled on top of them. The young adult glanced about her, searching for a familiar landmark. Winter did not generally agree with her more cheerful disposition and bright fur colors. The lavendar and tan that covered her body almost seemed to glow in the icy air. Her form moved through the forested area, providing sharp contrast to the trees and snow about her. Aether was brought to an abrupt stop. She had seen a flash of color through the brushes before her. It seemed a rich chocolate color, coupled with a splash of light pink. A bright smile broke out on her face, bringing a moment of spring sunshine to the dreary day. Hoping that she was not mistaken in who she had seen, Aether burst through the foliage ahead of her, looking about in earnest anticipation.

Fluffy ears flicked and Tatenda froze in his steps. Was that just fallen snow that he heard? His tails quivered and he turned around, peeking beyond the trees behind him. And there. Tatenda leaned to the side curiously, seeing a patch of color. Ruby eyes widened when he suddenly realized a form was dashing toward him. "Yikes!" The male tripped over his own paws with his jittery nerves, collapsing into the snow. A bashful smile graced his mouth, embarrassed that he did that. Especially in front of his friend. "A...Aether. It's nice to see you!" He rushed to sit up straight, white powder still clinging to his fur.

Aether's golden eyes swept over the fallen form lying on the snow in front of her. She had been right. Giggling a bit at his less than smooth response to her entrance, Aether moved over to help Tatenda up. She gently nudged his cheek, checking to make sure that he hadn't hurt himself in any obvious way. Obvious covering everything from visible blood to visible bones. O.o Finally satisfied that her friend was physically fine, Aether grinned in both relief and contentment.
"It's nice to see you too, Tatenda." And it was nice. For some reason, this male's presence always seemed to brighten Aether's day. Even the dreariest of winter's frosty moments melted away beneath Tatenda's warm, and slightly embarrassed, smile. Noticing his snow-covered fur, she leaned in again. Gently, she pushed away the piles of frozen snowflakes that clung to Tatenda's fur. "Are you feeling all right? You had quite a fall." Despite Aether's previous checkup of the other, she was still a bit nervous about his condition. Seeing the amount of snow that he'd kicked up only heightened her worry. The ground beneath the snow was frozen and therefore rock hard. Falling on it was uncomfortable under the best of circumstances.

Tatenda could only blush and sit there, letting Aether help him sit up alright. How embarrassing. His cheeks turned all the warmer when she nudged him by the check, and gave a little cough. Had he scuffed himself? Is that why she was staring? The male blinked and glanced himself over, realizing his little tumble had been too cold and numbing to feel any scratches. But there were none he could see.
Peeking up, he smiled to the pastel girl as she dusted him off. "I promise, I feel just fine." He waved his paw with an honest smile. He didn't want to see her so worried. It just didn't suit the cheery girl! His tail...or feathers, swept happily at meeting his friend. "How have you been Aether? I've missed you this winter." Seemed like most had decided to avoid the cold weather. He himself had avtually slept through almost all of it.

Aether finally allowed her worried look to fade and melt into her traditional smile. "I'm glad you feel all right." She felt warmth spread throughout her as she noticed his sincere and genuine smile break out, lighting up his rose colored eyes. They shone in the crisp winter air, appearing as beacons of goodwill and joy. Shaking herself out of her revere, Aether refocused her attention on Tatenda's comments.
"I've missed you too Tatenda. It feels like forever since I've seen you." Indeed, it had been too long. She had spent the first few weeks of winter developing a tolerance for the less than comfortable cold weather. Recently she had been exploring the new world of snow flurries and white vistas. "I've been good. I just have never really experienced winter before as an adult. When I was a kit I was protected from the frost and the cold by others. I never really noticed the changing seasons. Now, I get to explore them with a new perspective." Turning her gaze up, she studied the way the afternoon sun slowly passed through clouds and evergreen branches. Such rays of light finally made their way onto Tatenda's feathery tail. Seeing it waving happily, she smiled again. Aether had always found that her friend's unique feature was rather entertaining to watch.

"I'm...glad too." He laughed lightly and ducked his head. The ground hadn't been too hard, though he was certain he'd feel sore tomorrow. The male rolled his shoulder for a small comfort. Yeah, it felt fine. The poofs on his ears bristled every few moments, his nerves shaking off the cool air on his extremities. His toes were safe near the base of his body. Tatenda peeked at Aether's lemon eyes, flashing her a smile with a tilt of his head.
"It does feel like forever, doesn't it? And I thought it was just me." It must be a winter thing, where the stillness makes it feel like time slows. His mouth formed a small oh, surprised by the girl's little fact. "You've never gotten to play in snow when you were younger? Well, I guess parents are just that protective." Even if it was abit boring, at least you were warm. "But it is good to explore, yes?" His feathers kept wagging, both happy and not willing to sit still for snow to cover. Seeing his friend's attention turn up, Tatenda to looked that way. "Oh! What do you see?"

Aether gently shook her head, letting the tufts of her ears swing back and forth in Jack Frost's breeze. "Nope. I never got to play in the snow." With a wistful look in her eyes, she remembered past years as a kit. "I don't remember my real parents, but Zahariah was extremely overprotective. He's my adopted father, but the 'adopted' part never really seemed to matter to him or to me." Memories of being curled up with her 'daddy' made Aether smile. At Tatenda's happy tail-wagging and question about what she saw, the female turned. "Oh! I was just looking at the snow falling. In spring and summer I love to watch the sunlight filter through the lush green leaves of the trees. In autumn, it's fun to watch those same leaves fall. It's odd to look up in this season and find nothing there but white flakes." Despite her exploring, Aether still wasn't used to all the sights and sounds of winter. Tatenda's presence was a grounding reminder that this whole experience wasn't just a fantasy of her overactive imagination.

Tatenda giggled, imagining Aether's tuffs like cotton candy, pale and fluffy. But his smile fell fast when he noticed Aether's sudden pause. Oh, how could he have forgotten? His ears fell back, his eyes crinkling with apology. "I...I'm sorry. I didn't mean to bring up any memories like that." She may sound cheery about herself and Zahariah, but he still felt bad none the less. He too hadn't grown up with parents, so the thought of it being sensitive didn't reach him till then. But he smiled still, glad to see Aether wasn't too disturbed by the topic.
Nose wriggled when a said snow flake fell on his brown muzzle, Tatenda shaking his head. It was light enough to ignore, but fun to try and dodge or maybe even lick. His eyes lightened to the talk of seasons. "Oh yes, I love when the leaves fall! Then it's like a see of crunches and hide and seek." That was his favorite time. "But I do like spring too, with all the pretty flowers." He looked at the bare trees, now blanketed in snow. Everything now was either white or brown.

Noticing Tatenda's sudden apology, Aether paused in her thoughts. Seeing the sorrow in his eyes, she turned to him and quickly closed the gap between them. "It's all right. I really don't mind talking about it. Zahariah was a wonderful father and I don't regret any of my childhood with him." She nuzzled her companion's cheek gently, making sure that he had no doubts about how she felt.
Glad to see his smile and change of topic, she listened to him describing autumn. "I love jumping in the huge piles of leaves when they gather beneath the trees in fall." A sudden image appeared in her mind, making her laugh out loud. "You must be quite a sight during that time of year. With you chocolate brown fur you would be impossible to find!" She inspected his tail closely while commenting, "Not even your feathers would give you away. If you squint, they sort of look like leaves." She was smiling openly, imagining all the fun that Tatenda must have come fall. "We HAVE to do that next year!" She whirled about with joy, gently nuzzling the male's cheek once again.

The male Ulaya held his breath as Aether drew closer, before finally releasing a sigh. It was silly how he still wasn't used to such friendly acts. "Oh, I remember Zahariah." Tatenda sweatdropped to the quick memory. He still didn't know why the other had been so, well, observing. It must be a parent thing, and it was good to know the adult was so caring for Aether's well-being.
Tatenda wriggled happily, glancing down at Aether. "You like leave jumping too? It is so much fun." Even if it wasn't as pretty as spring, or as clean as winter. Just the crunching of the golden leaves, and the zingy energy in the air was such an enjoyable time before the chills of the next season. Aehter laughed, and Tatenda did too even though he didn't know what she found funny. He just enjoyed hearing that sound. "Me? I suppose so." He peeked at his rich brown fur and down to his tail. "Haha, yeah, I'm ussually really good at hiding and blending during autumn." He watched her whirly, and stood on happy paws. "Yes we must!" A brow rose lightly with a playful grin. "I wonder how hard it'd be to spot you in the leaves."

The happy feeling in Aether's chest had reappeared, rising again with Tatenda's laughter. Noticing his playful grin, she smiled back. His comment about her own hiding potential hit the mark though. Her pastel colors were extremely noticable, regardless of the season. A meadow full of springtime flowers was pretty much the only place she could reasonably hide. Even then the lack of green grass where she lay tended to give away her location. "I suppose I'll just have to search for you. My hiding abilities are rather limited due to my...vibrant nature. When burrowing in piles of leaves to hide I have to dig very deep. Making little tunnels does not tend to be very productive." Aether responded playfully to her friend's own comments. She then added, "I wonder if you could tunnel into snow piles." Pausing in her statements, she thought about this new concept. "It might be fun...but rather cold." Scrunching up her nose at the icy thoughts, she wondered if anything in winter did not involve freezing.

"Maybe, but there's enough leave to share and hide in." Tatenda bounced around in the snow, side to side in short energy. He'd even help her make tunnels, if she wanted. Even if it would take some effort and time. His feathers wagged the whole time, and he paused to bat playfully at Aether with his front paws. The male was careful not to kick up any cold snow in the other's face with his actions. A pause as he listened to Aether's question, and he couldn't help his shoulders shaking. "That would be really cold, hiding in a hole of snow. But it sounds easier to do than with leaves." He continued to sit back on his hind legs, arms waving to the pastel ulaya. He just now realized that more movement did help with keping the body warm. Besides, he was so enjoying his time back with his friend, and was having hard enough time not hugging her just to show his happiness.

((Just realized I can use a vocabulary word in this RP...lols))
Aether laughed, watching Tatenda's happy gamboling (vocab word!!!) about in the snow. As he batted her with his front paws, she ducked and evaded, launching herself forward to lick his cheek, before bounding away again. Greatful that he hadn't kicked up too much snow, Aether grinned at her friend. She nodded at his last comment. "Making leaf tunnels is rather difficult. They don't like to hold to a particular shape." A sudden noise above them made Aether lift her head. The tree above them had apparently decided that, in terms of snow, enough was enough. It's evergreen boughs bent swiftly, depositing the snow that had been sitting on them. All that snow dropped from the tree to land on the ground below and...on Tatenda. Aether jumped away at the spray of cold flakes, but quickly jumped back as she realized her other's dilemna. "Oh, you poor thing!" She started brushing him off again, seeking to rid him of his new snowy coat. Still, Aether bit back a giggle. Tatenda looked a little cute with a little snow mountain on his head.

(XD congrats!)
The brown ulaya whined fakely, watching as Aether easily dodged his pats. But his complaining ended when she gave him a quick lick, leaving him tongue-tied before bounding away. Shaking his head to get rid of the blush, he blinked open an eye in her direction. "Yeah, you can only do so much with things like leaves, sadly." But they were still so entertaining in his mind. His ears shot up to a new noise, and Tatenda tilted his head up to find the source. The poor male only had enough time to gasp, wincing as the cold snow smacked his head and all the way down his back.
"Ayeee~" His teeth were chattering as he jumped on his paws, shaking frantically to get the white ice particles off him. It was so cold! He could feel some warmth, and gave a small smile to Aether. "T...thank you. You didn't get hit did you?" He glanced over her own pelt even as he kept quivering, glad to see she wasn't 'attacked'. "What did I ever do to you?" Tatenda gave a glance to the tree with a pout.
