Winter was a b***h.

It was cold, her lips were chapping, goddammit, and it was disgustingly damp.

But it was very, very pretty, and that made all of the bad points moot. Mignon reached down and scooped up a handful of fluffy white snow, idly packing it into a ball. Huh. It'd been a while since she'd played in this stuff. What, last time was with Gilly, and their little fort.

Oh, memories. Mignon shook her head and snorted, packing the snow harder and winging it at a nearby tree. Feh. Memories.

Maelon couldn't believe he'd actually agreed to go outside. It was cold, all the park benches were wet, and all the stupid little children were running around screaming. He hated screaming children. Pryderi, however, had been adamant that he at least went outside every now and then. Being holed up in his room wasn't good for him, he claimed. The dark chocolate Sin'aeis had to disagree. Being holed up in his room meant that he didn't have to go to dances with obnoxious girls. Urg. Becky. Just urg.

The redhead repressed a shudder at the thought, before stuffing his hands further into his pockets and leaning more of his weight against the tree. This sucked. At least the park was relatively quiet. He had just shifted his weight to tap some snow off his boots when a thunk on the back of the tree made him jump. "Hey! What was that for?" He called, peering around the tree at the culprit. Who the heck was throwing snow balls at him?!

Well, snap.

"Sorry about that!" Mignon called, walking over. "Didn't think the parental units would like me taking a throw at the annoying little screamers, so I took out my aggression on the tree. Didn't know you'd be standing... Behind it."

Now, Miggy never forgot a face. Call it a gift. And this face was familiar somehow. Older than what she remembered, but familiar...

The redhead scowled as he faced the snowball thrower, pleased somewhat that it looked like someone his age. It was always a pain to deal with the older members of society. They were so grouchy, especially once the light glinted off the metal pieces he had put in his face. Lip rings were such a bother sometimes.

Wait a minute. This girl that was apologizing him looked waaaay too familiar to be just some random stranger throwing snowballs at him. And if Maelon actually recognized a female, it meant that a) she had tormented him in the past or b) he had actually liked her enough to remember her. The sight of this one didn't make him want to run for his life, so he decided it must be the latter. Blonde hair... blonde hair... oh he definitely knew this girl....

"Wait... you're not Mignon are you?"

Well, huh. This was a first. She didn't normally get recognized before she recognized the person.

"Why, yes. Yes I am." She smiled, thinking hard. Something... About.. Spiders-

"Oh my word. Maelon. Just look at you!" She laughed, looking up at him. My, my, my. Looking up at him was quite a change from when they'd seen each other last.

Maelon's scowl changed into a sort of lop-sided grin as he relaxed. Mignon. He hadn't seen her in what... ages it seemed! He still remembered how she had come trekking through that forest to come and meet him just because. The redhead would never do anything like that to meet anyone, but it had been nice on her part. Plus she'd liked his spider. That had been a huge bonus.

He blinked at her last comment, tilting his head. "What d'you mean look at me? I know I'm bigger, but so are you."

"Mmhm, but I'm pretty sure that last time I saw you that I was the taller of us two." Mignon laughed, shaking her hair back. "And now you're looking down at me. Look like you've been working out, too."

My, my. Maelon had grown into a very attractive lad.

"So, how's the spider?"

Maelon was unable to stop the flush that came over his face when Mignon said that he'd been working out. "Uh... thanks?" What was he supposed to say to that? I'm working out so Akilah will stop calling me gay? He supposed that was a really, really petty reason, and something best kept to himself. Yeah, keeping that to himself. Mignon did not need to know that.

"The spider? Kitten? Oh she's um... dead." He scuffed his shoe on the snow, cringing inwardly at the thought of his poor spider. "I've got a collection of other 'creepy crawlies' as Pryderi calls them though. They're really neat. So um.... what have you been... 'up to' lately?" Real smooth Maelon.

Awwww, blushing? Cuuute. Mignon grinned at the coloring, though it fell when she heard about Kitten. Awwww. She'd liked the spider. It was cute, in an oddly named kind of freaky way. "Sorry to hear that, Mae." Poor Kitten.

"Oh... Not too much. Staff training, working as a waitress, stuff like that. What've you been doing, besides collecting new, neat creepy crawlies?" Mig didn't seem to notice any awkwardness on his part, she just looked interested in what he was saying and happy to see an old friend.

The dark chocolate Sin'aeis gave a minute shrug at Mignon's apology, hoping to get off the topic as fast as possible. His spider dying had been at a very rocky time in his life, and he wasn't too keen to revisit the memories. Besides, he had a good life now, and good bugs to admire and let run all over his arms. He was really enjoying that millipede that Pryderi had bought him Christmas.

"You work as a waitress?" Maelon asked, realizing for the first time that yes, they were both old enough to be getting jobs. The last time he had seen her they were barely old enough to be going outside on their own. Funny how time flies. "I don't really um... do much actually. Just hang around here, run into Akilah, that sort of thing."

"Mmhm! Gets good tips, and it's fun to talk to so many people." 'Talk' as in 'flirt'. Not that she'd ever do anything.

"Kilah? Jeeze, I haven't seen her in forever." Mignon snorted, shaking her head. Some best friend she was. Couldn't even manage to see her friend. "Haven't seen a lot of people, actually."

Shaking her head with a little smirk on her face, Mig picked up a handful of snow, working it again into a little ball.

"Huh. Well 's long as you enjoy it." Maelon personally couldn't see the appeal of working as a server. He would much rather be back in the diner as the cook, learning how to make new things and just generally staying away from the cranky customers. The redhead had worked as a server at the local waffle house up until very recently, when he got paranoid that Akilah and her guardian would show up again and bring disaster with him. Thus, he was currently unemployed, but quite pleased to be so.

"Oh really? I seem to run into her all the time," the dark chocolate Sin'aeis responded a little dryly, cringing inwardly at the thought of the blind girl. He had better not run into her today. If he caught sight of her before she heard him, he would be so out of there. "I thought you liked seeing people." Maelon distinctly remembered being hunted down by Mignon when she wanted to meet every Sin, or something to that effect.

"Oh, I do love to see people. It's why I like my job." Mignon balled the snowball up harder. "It's just that I never seem to see any of my old friends. After all, how long as it been since I saw you?"

"That's how it seems to go with me." She snorted, shaking her head, eying a group of somewhat nearby kids. She looked at the ball in her hand, at the kids again, and then giggled.

Well, that was true. Maelon shrugged at the question, not entirely sure himself. "Long time. I haven't seen a lot of the kids I knew when I was younger in ages. I'm not outside half as much as you must be. Maybe all the Sin just don't get out anymore. Hard to drag babies around with you everywhere." It was hard to compare the redhead's list of friends to Mignon's, so the point was kind of moot. Even so, the Sin'aeis were not a very large group, so it was only natural they wouldn't see each other all the time.

Maelon followed Mignon's gaze to the group of children, grinning when he saw the snowball in her hand. Oh this was going to get good. He reached down and scooped up some snow, packing it into a ball in his hand. "So... how good's your aim?"

"I'm always out. Short attetion span. And no one's at home, anyway." She said, aiming.

"Oh, fair, I guess." She said, pitching the snowball like a baseball, hitting one kid square in the back hard enough to knock him down. Miggy giggled. Tee hee!
