((sorry for the lame title, I was having a tough time thinking of one before I died of old age))

Kiun pranced through the forest, flitting his wings to catch the falling leaves. He stopped for a moment in a large clearing and streached, extending his wings as far as they could go, enjoying the sunlight on his back. He pawed at the ground, anxious to do something fun.

Pumping his wings, he rose off the ground a few feet, and then a little higher. He liked being able to go where he wanted. As his own little joke, he called his wings his 'Sky Tram Tickets' There was a brisk wind blowing today, fairly strong too. Kiun didn't want to get carried hundreds of miles away, so he gently floated back down, let his feet skim the grass for a few yards, then settled down on the warm earth.

He pricked his ears, he had thought he had heard something, then thought nothing of it. More likely a squirrel or other forest rat.

Something was different about this day, Cicely had decided that morning. There was something different in the air... The weather was warmer, but that wasn't it. Maybe it was because she had this faint feeling she'd run into someone new? She hadn't had company in a while... She was always on the move. The teal mare tossed her black mane as she emerged from behind the shelter of the long leaves of a willow tree, walking at a reasonable pace. She ignored the faint pain in her hind leg as she walked - more like limped- north. There was a stream nearby, and she was quite parched.

Cicely wasn't very fond of the forest. But it was the quickest shortcut to get to the mountains! The mare sighed as she paused, her ears flicking around. The sound of water... She was going in the right direction. A faint smile touched her lips as she continued on. Her eyes stayed vigilant, however, for any signs of another. Company was nice... But if company sported demonic wings and horns, than it was not welcoming to her. She shuddered at the thought.

Kiun wandered toward the source of the crack, hoping that if it was a tree rat, he could give it a good scare. He left the clearing and back into the cool forest, the trees hid the suns glare, Kiun was glad for this. Later it would get much hotter than this midmorning heat.

A faint gurgle of a stream caught his attention. At the thought of water, he realized how thirsty he really was. Picking up his speed to a quickened trot, his ears pricked, he found the small stream. Bending down and folding his wings, he drank greedily from the stream. The cool clear water felt good against his throat, soothing it and cooling him down.

He pulled his head up, pricking his ears. He thought he had heard something again. Oh well, it must have just been another stupid tree rat.

'Just a little more to go!' Cicely cheered mentally as she stepped through the bramble, careful not to get her tail caught on the branches. There ahead of her was the stream, deliciously cold and refreshing. A smile lit up on her face almost immediatly at the sight that would quench her thirst... But something moved outside her central vision. She casted a quick glance in the direction of the movement, and quieted a gasp of hers. There, drinking frm the stream, was one heckuva stallion.

His wings amazed her, but she forced herself to look away and flush deeply at her embarressing actions. 'Just ignore him... You always make such a fool of yourself in front of males.' Cicely thought, taking careful steps towards the stream. Which... Well, she didn't necessarily make a fool of herself, but she certainly fell hard for a toned body and a handsome face. But compared to extravagance, she was simple. The only diffeent thing about her was her limp, which was far of extraordinary.

The mare lowered her head carefully, her mane's tips touching the water as she drank. Her throat felt dryer than usual. It was probably from gaping like an idiot! She almost wanted to giggle at the thought, but refrained from it. It'd make her sputter and look like a mess.

Kiun had sensed the mares presence before she had left the safety of the brambles. He sneaked a peek at her though the hair that had fallen to cover his eyes. She was not as plain as some of the mares he had set eyes on, with an interesting swirl pattern that had etched itself into her coat.

He lifted his head up from the cool water, having drank his fill. He tossed his head, showing off, and at the same time removing the hair from his eyes. Getting a better look at the mare, he saw she walked with a slight limp. His eyes softened, for though he was a young flirty stallion, he still had a heart that could feel sorrow and compassion.

Looking at the stream, he gauged the distance to the opposite bank. Backing up a few steps, he cantered forward, lifted his wings and glided across the stream, trailing his back hooves in the water. He enjoyed the coolness of it on his hooves.

Touching down on the opposite bank, he walked up to the mare and waited until she had finished drinking.

Though she was trying to ignore him, she watched him out of the corner of her eyes secretly. Her bangs obscured her vison as she lapped up water, but she could see enough. She nearly dribbled when he flew over the stream and out of her sight, and a feeling of disappointment settled in her stomach. She had watched him fly out of sight, away from her. She swallowed the gulp of water in her mouth, her eyes on her reflection for a moment. Was she not aethetically pleasing or something? Why did it matter when her personality was (at least she thought) quite pleasant?

She huffed a bit and backed away from the stream, but halted almost immediatly as soon as she tossed her mane to get it away from her face. Side-long she could see the large blue stallion feet from her. She flushed at her unacute sense and turned to face him, a light smile tugging at her lips. Bfore the formalities, sh could only gape at his wings, "I don't mean to stare, but your wings are amazing." She said quietly but with admiration.

Wings were what she wanted. It was the one way to relieve her leg of the annoying pressure of walking. But she was not blessed with them...But it didn't cause Cicely to dislike those with wings. If anything, it fueled her curiosity even more.

Kiun laughed gently at the mares comment. It was true, his wings were unlike most other soquili's. He streched them slowly, soothing the muscle. He looked the mare over, and liked what he saw. She seemed like a gentle soul. He said,

"It's alright, I know they're...different." He paused, then asked curiously, as his young mind was eager to know, "How did you get your limp?" He didn't want to cause the mare uncomfort, but he really did want to know.

Cicely watched him stretch his wings, and she watched with the utmost attention. He had feathers of a warm red and amber color, and feathers of his coat's blue. They were really interesting, but they weren't the only thing that drew her to him. He was tall, and his windswept mane and tail... He seemed almost like a adventerous type. Not one to be confined.

At his question, she lowered her head a bit and looked away, biting down on her lower lip. So he had noticed? Did others notice it so easily as well? She looked back to him slowly, shaking her head with disgust for her weakness, "Well... It's... Something I'd rather not speak of with a stranger. It's personal, y'know?" Her words were almost small. Was she going to react this way when others qustioned her about it? When her parents asked, she had claimed she had taken a bad fall. Cicely knew however, that she just couldn't lie to everyone about it, especially when there was a witness - her brother.

"So let's not be strangers, then." She chimed, offering a growing smile, "I'm Cicely."

Kiun frowned a bit when the mare said she would rather not discuss it with him, but he didn't want to frighten her. He grinned again, he did not want to be a stranger either.

Kiun smiled with delight, now they were getting somewhere. With a grin on his face, he bowed deeply, winked, and said, "Well then Cicely, my name is Kiun" He stood up from the bow and grinned again.

At the extravagance of his bow, Cicely couldn't help but giggle. She didn't want to offend the newly-met stallion with her secret-keeping, so she attempted to mimic his bow. She lowered her head politely, an then straightened her posture. She looked him over with a polite smile, but when she opened her mouth her words were past the formalities and it seemed as if she was holding in laughter, "It's very nice to meet you, Kiun! I'm surprised I haven't seen you around here before. But with your wings, I'm sure you're from just about anywhere, no?"

Kiun smiled widely as he heard Cicely's giggle. He laughed as she mimiced his bow, and he nodded his head in joking approval. He was certaintly enjoying this afternoon. A shaded forest, a bubbling brook, and a pretty mare.

He swished his tail, and answered, "Well, I'm pleased to meet you too." He paused, organizing his thoughts, then continued, "Well yes, I've been all over the place. North, south, east west, up, down." He laughed, as the up, down, meant sky and earth.

Cicely's face fell serious after he anwered, and she turned away for a moment to look at the stream. He talked so easy about going places... All because he had strong legs and wings. He probably didn't do stupid things as a foal, either. She kept her eyes on the stream, embarressed but serious about her next question, "So what's it like to fly?" She asked wishfully, slowly turneing her eyes back to him.

Flight seemed to be blessed to those who could use it to their full potential. So why wasn't she gifted with it? Genetics. She knew that, but... Survival of the fittest claimed that only those who are fit enough to survive will. She was a horse with three good legs. She was certainly not the fittest. The mare was, simply put, envious of those who had wings - those who had an easy lifestyle.

Kiun saw in Cicely's face that she was saddened about how easy it was for him to go places, his own face took on a look of emberrasment and apology. He had forgotten how hard it was for Cicely to travel. He thought carefully about her question, he didn't want to hurt her. He answered, "Flying is, like walking without legs." That was the best way he could describe it, so he elaborated a little,

"It's a lot harder than it looks, if I get caught in a bad storm, my wings could be torn off from the wind. Also, if I go too high I could faint from he lack of oxygen. I have to gauge air currents, because a slipstream could carry me over a hundred miles away from where I want to be. I actually find it sometimes easier to walk. Its also very tiring. If I want to fly for at least 2 hours, I have to eat a lot, and I mean a lot." He felt kind of emberrased on his elaborative description of flying.
