C'mon guys, January is now upon us, we need to decide some things.
First thing we need to decide: Who will preside over these elections? EDIT: THIS MEANS WHO WE GIVE THE DUTY OF COUNTING THE VOTES, NOTHING MORE. EVERYTHING ELSE WILL HAVE TO BE DEALT WITH BY US.
Options:
A. Draft Nymphie
B. Crew
C. Other (Provide Suggestion)
Second thing: How will these elections go?
Options:
A. One Round, Straight Shot
B. Two Rounds, Prelims and Finals
C. Other (Provide Suggestion)
Third thing: If it turns out it is decided we will have prelims, how should voting work?
Options:
A. Same as the regular elections -- One Vote Per Person
B. Multiple votes per person in prelims
C. Other (Provide Suggestion)
Fourth thing: How long should voting last?
Options:
A. Three days
B. One Week
C. Two Weeks
D. Other (Provide Suggestion)
Fifth thing: When should voting begin?
Options (I am limiting this to weeks in January at this point, if someone has a complaint please explain it.):
A. First full week of January
B. Second full week of January
C. Third full week of January
D. Fourth full week of January

1. Stickied, THIS NEEDS TO BE SEEN, or else your voice WON'T be heard, and it'll be no one's fault but your own... >_> And we need to do this SOON!
2:
#1: EDIT: Well, I still don't think we can force Nymmie to count the votes... we're supposed to do the WHOLE thing ourselves... And having just any one of us to count can bring up issues of impartiality... Also, I'm not so sure about forcing the crew to count the votes... I mean, if someone there wants to step forward and be the "voice of impartiality" and do it, then that's great (and I'm not pointing the finger at only myself here... *cough*)... Or, we could let whoever's running the election do it, provided we trust them... (okay, maybe that one's a little more directed at me...) And though I'm still not sure if I will, knowing that someone else can count votes "impartially" (if I do run) is enough to make me "reconsider" my position... o_o (Not that you couldn't trust me to be impartial with myself in the running, if I was to, but, it'd look bad... o.o) Nymmie said she'd be willing to count votes, so I say we go with that... ^_^
#2: I'm going to have to say that I've been convinced that doing a two-step election is the best idea, prelims and finals. Now, for the prelims, I think it should be a "volunteer" operation... You say you wanna run, you get put on a list... list gets displayed up, and people vote on list... Top 3 to 5 people are going to the finals... For the voting (Prelims only), I like the idea of letting people vote for more than one candidate... then the people who really "shine" will wind up in the top... then, for the finals, I think the winner should win by about 2/3 (66.7%)... give or take If there's a close match, then there'll be another election, between the two candidates with the highest votes.
#3: I'd have to say that voting can't be too short, since we really need participation, but can't be too long... we gotta get this in gear... I say that prelims should last at least three days, but no more than a week... and about the same time allotted for the finals...
#4: I think that voting should begin SOON... as in NEXT WEEK if at all possible... I'm just going to say the second week of Jan. ^_^

1. We do it ourself and ask for crew involvement if we ABSOLUTELY need to, but be prepared to come up with a backup.
2. I prettymuch agree with what sib said. Prelims are a good idea and a really close tie isn't.
3. A week might be too long. 5 days should be good though. We NEED to put up threads in main forum and sniped D though. :3
4. ********, I'd say we need to do prelims sometime the FIRST WEEK OF JANUARY. We need to get these done. I say we should probably have them planned veryvery soon. A few more replies in this thread. I'll link it in the D?

A. Draft Nymphie - blaugh I would forget elections, find a troll in the GD and let them be captain and do whatever they want. So I dont think me doing it is a good idea.
B. Crew - Like I said in my other thread, this is not crew's responsibility
C. Other (Provide Suggestion) - I guess since Sib wants to do it let Sib do it.

What I wrote a couple days ago. ...
This is all based off of the ideas that Sib and Dukes have given for running the election.
Primaries = Round one - we all vote for the top 3 candidates we think would make the best captains. Here most votes shouldn't be a problem. Running them from Jan 16th to the 22nd -ish for some approximate dates.
Final Round - With the top 3 candidates chosen we have the main election to choose who would make the best captain among them. In this case having a majority vote of at least 60% would be best, because depending on what happens a close race could cause some problems. Hopefully there will be a clear enough majority that there won't be a need for runoff elections. These could run from the 22nd to the 29th, leaving a couple of days in case they're needed.
As for Dukes's idea of having a quiz for the voters...that's a bit much. Having a thread to post responses from candidates like the question threads could be an option. That could run from now till the last day of the main elections. There voters could PM their questions to the candidate and the question with the response could be posted in the thread as well. As
Captain they'll have to deal with PMs about guild matters so they should be able to answer all questions.
And no way should crew make any final decision on who gets to be captain, unless something seriously complicated and messed up happens making it the only choice. :/

Reason (if Other): This is the guild's choice. The decision of whom they choose should be up to them. Thus, if they want a candidate or Nymphie or a Crew member to lead it, they should choose so.

Reason (if Other): The reason why we're doing this is because Nymphie is retiring, so it seems like she wouldn't willingly do it, if I'm guessing correctly. Crew... that's only a portion of the guild, so it wouldn't work. So, I think the guild, as a whole, should take at least some part of it. Sib volunteered, he could if he wanted to. XD

Reason: We should do it ourselves. Making Nymphie do it would just be dumb, and we can get crew involved if we need it, but otherwise we should be able to handle it. :3

I ask that everyone who voted C (Other) for question 1 please check the edit I made to clarify what I meant and if necessary please change your answer. I personally feel we should draft Nymphie to count the votes because she's the only one who won't be affected by having to do it, as she's not running. If crew does it, it may cause certain crew to feel they cannot fairly run in an election they are counting the votes for.
