Gotta love the comics sometimes, Other M often reads far better than the published comic ever could and I've seen some wonderful Sonic Adventure adaptions.

Art is always lovely.

Sprite comics are 90% crap rushed and non-funny drivel, with some trying for serious plots or at least know how not to ruin a perfectly good joke.

Fan-Fiction is hit or miss, it could be good, deep and thoughtful, or complete drivell, like my early works x.x

Comics usually get the best though. *Praises Other M some more*

I swear, some of the Fan art around the web is freakin' awesome...

Not to mention this person's idea for a Sonic Card-Game

Well, Archie have been cherry-picking fan talent. Which says something.

To be honest, the entire concept of an online fandom in itself never ceases to amaze me. What other medium could draw so many people from so many places together on one topic , and let so much information be passed so easily?

As much as I adore certain elements of fan comics and fiction (*another Other-M fan*), just being able to share news and information with people is more than we could do without computers. Six years ago, I'd only just learned that the US even had a Sonic comic, and that it was different from the one I could find in the UK.

From your answer in the lackey thread, I thought you already knew about Fleetway?

Fleetway? No, I haven't heard the name.

Fleetway? No, I haven't heard the name.

Fleetway is the publisher of the UK comic (in the same way we refer to the US one as Archie), the UK comic ran for about 10 years from 1992 to 2002 (IIRC) with 184 issues of original material and about 40 issues after that of pure reprinted stories.

It was released fortnightly and involved 7 page Sonic stories with three 5 page side stories usually based on Tails or Knuckles, though there were at the early stages of the comic Sega Stories, based on Shinobi, Streets of Rage, Kid Chameleon etc.

Interesting features of the UK comic include Super Sonic being a pure evil demon, Chaotix and co making regular appearances from their home dimension "The Special Zone" (which was a complete parody of Marvel, by the way, Chaotix representing The Fantastic Four, and even fighting "The Fundamental Four" at one point), direct game adaptions for Sonic 3 & Knuckles, Sonic CD, Sonic Adventure and Flickies Island (only S3&K was faithful though, and even then ego-meister Nigel Kitching managed to squeeze one of his original characters into the plot)

Oh, and it's about the only spin-off to give Tails some credit, and also develop Knuckles character as the LAST SURVIVING ECHIDNA...

Fleetway wasn't all that good, but it had it's plus points.

When you spelt Grimer as Grimer rather than Grima, I thought you might've, since "Grimer Wormtongue" was the completely rip-off name of Robotnik's lackey in that series.

I'm honestly not giving out free advertising by saying that they have probably the best section on it as far as the big Sonic sites're concerned, yes.

If you have any questions after ploughing through all that (and their Fleetway section's having a major overhaul at the moment), just pop onto their UK comic message board. Nobody bites newbies over there (although they may get eaten, charred and/or their shoelaces stolen if they go anywhere near the general discussion forum smile ).

Or, if you don't want to ask there, ask Samwise, Eon or myself right here. There're probably more people in the guild who could tell you about it, but they're just the ones I can think of right now. smile

Wow, thanks, Nuala, though I wouldn't call myself an expert per se... I only got #88 to #200 after all, and many of them I read only once and never again. I've forgotten a lot of what happened. ^^;

Aww, but I like Sonic AND Mario. Funny drawing though! xd

It's still surreal to me that Sega's only making software now. Being able to play with both titles on the same gaming console is just... o_0

I haven't gone hunting for any online stuff recently, though I'm thinking of looking up some memes for my LiveJournal. I think I'll do that now. xd
