Etana was feeling better than ever. Now having cemented a partnership with fellow-heartbreaker Siya, Etana'Mayasa was feeling more confidant than ever; she was almost giddy. She had even had the energy to hunt down a few hares this morning, and made herself a nice brunch. Now satiated instead of starving, the cheetah was happy but unable to relax.

Instead of lounging as she usually did, Eta was taking a leisurely walk through the grass, almost humming with happiness.

Unlike Eta, Jaha didn't have a care in the world. Except for the fact that a pride of lions had drove him away from his favorite river. But it was all good because he had eaten a lot of fish before they drove him away. It had been a few days away from the river without food. He was very strong, and there was no arguing that but he didn't know how to hunt. His stomach growled obnoxiously and frequently to remind him of his problem.

"Shut UP!" he growled at his stomach which was accompanied by him hitting his own stomach in discipline. he KNEW he had no food but it wasn't helping with his stomach nagging him every minute of the day. He then heard a rustle in the grass. Figuring it was his stomach again, he shouted, "Where's the off button on this thing?!

Realizing it was not his stomach that had created the noise, he stood up from under the tree to see a merry cheetah walking around with a bit of a spring in her step. He hoped he didn't disturb her. He jogged over to her to apologize. "I'm sorry for the racket I made. I was just punishing my stomach."

Eta turned surprised eyes onto the newcomer lion. Was he actually apologizing for disturbing her? She hadn't been disturbed until he came over and talked to her! But it was no matter; after her initial displeasure, Etana realized how such a nice lion like this might be fun to talk to. After all, the nicest ones were usually the easiest to cajole.

The lithe cheetah normally shyed away from contact with male lions. They were big, brute force; she was all fine lines, daintiness even, and built for speed. But this lion didn't give off the air of being a brute. Etana's intuition was fined-tuned, and she relied on it often. Finally deigning to speak to the red-and-white male, Eta put her you-can't-touch-me face on, complete with a sly half-smile, and spoke teasingly, ignoring his apology.

"What has your stomach done to deserve such punishment? I understand that my own often complains for days on end, but I've found that only food will quiet its rumblings. Has yours been unduly quarrelsome?"

"Well, you see. I haven't eaten in a while so my stomach won't stop growl-", Jaha stopped in mid sentence as his stomach rumbled loudly. He turned to his stomach and pinned his ears, roaring, "You stupid stomach! Not only have you deprived me of silence and sleep, but now you dare to interrupt me?! I'll show you!" Jaha jumped in the air and landed on his stomach, trying to squish it to death. After a few seconds, he realized it didn't work. So he got back up and started hitting it with his huge paws. His stomach growled again and he went into a frenzy of hitting his stomach and rolling around and shouting at it. After a few seconds of silence from his belly, he got up. Jaha cleared his throat as if nothing had happened. "As you can see, my stomach is in dire need of punishment. It has become so rude and uncivilized that it has found it appropriate to interrupt me mid sentence!" Jaha said calmly to Eta but shouted at his stomach the words about his belly. "How can something so small and pitiful make so much noise?"

Etana's eyes grew as wide as saucers as she watched the lion's antics. Oh, great, she thought. This guy is a lunatic. Eta, though she boasted of much, truly did not know how to handle crazy lions. This guy was completely throwing her off. But still she did not just want to run; she would hold out a while, and as long as he was not violent, he was interesting.

"Perhaps if you...treated your stomach as a part of yourself, instead of an enemy?" she suggested timidly. Eta was not timid, but she was afraid of what wacky things he might do next. If there was any way to throw the smooth-talking Eta off her tracks, this was the way.

"Maybe, but it just won't shut up. I've been trying to hunt to get food so it won't growl but while I'm hunting, it makes noise and scares off the prey." Jaha hung his head as he appeared to have have given up. "Then when I try to sleep in hopes of getting enough energy to hunt, it keeps me awake so I can't hunt and then it taunts me all day. It's asking for it!

His stomach let off a faint gurgle. He didn't go into a rampage but just glared at it and let out a faint hiss. "I'm sorry Eta, my stomach is just driving me insane." Jaha normally was not crazy or violent towards his own body parts. He was just hungry. Really, really hungry.

Jaha decided to take Eta's advice but ended up doing differently than expected. He did not hit his stomach when it growled, but simply growled at it. His stomach growled back, slightly louder. Jaha growled at it once again but his stomach once again growled. He was getting angry and roared at his belly. When his belly didn't grumble again, he smiled and said "I'm sorry for the noise"

Etana nodded along with Jaha's words. "So...why don't you just solve the problem and eat?" she asked, slightly confused. "That would surely shut it up. I understand what you mean, of course; sometimes I go a few days without catching any prey. But surely you understand that the problem is easily solved?"

Etana peered at him curiously. She didn't quite understand if this guy was really off his rocker, or if, like he said, hunger had just taken over his brain. Til she found out which, she didn't want to try to form a closer acquaintance with him - assuming he was worth getting to know. It was possible he was just as worthless as every other lion she had ever met.

Jaha hung his head in sorrow. "I realize it will be quiet if it gets food but it is the reason it isn't getting any. Every time I am close to catching some prey, it shoots itself in the paw by growling so loudly, it scares the prey away! I'm a rouge so there is no way for me to get food without hunting it myself." He really wasn't trying to be that awkward but he just was. He was just hoping that it would be quiet just until long enough for him to catch some prey. Jaha was very good at throwing almost anybody off with his child-like personality. Normally, he was just a lion that was oblivious to almost anything. As his tummy growled once again, he merely sighed. He flopped onto his belly, not to squish it but from pure exhaustion. He lay there, covering his ears with his paws, shaking. To a passerby, it would look like he was trying to hide and failing, but he was just hoping for silence long enough for him to rest.

((Sorry for taking so long to respond, I had some writer's block. Jaha is silly, isn't he. XD))

Eta lifted in eyebrow at Jaha's words and behavior. He seemed to be a child in an adult's body. She was a rogue as well; she knew what it meant. "Many other lions find a way to hunt for themselves," she said, almost with an air of disdain. Even Eta had to hunt for herself, as much as she hated exerting herself for it. More often she tried to trick others into hunting for her...though that might not work well for Jaha.

Eta wasn't nearly as mean as she could have been to this lion - she wasn't sure why, but she didn't have the energy. He seemed to be the stereotypical male lion who, when he had no female lions to hunt for him, could not take care of himself. This only reinforced Eta's feelings about lions, and males, but she didn't speak of it to Jaha himself. After all, he was still bigger and stronger than her.

"Look here," Etana said in a commanding voice, her bossy personality taking over. "You aren't doing any good lying around moping about being hungry. So why don't you watch for another hunter to kill his prey and wait for him to finish with it. You can eat a little something to quiet your stomach enough to get some real food of your own."

Etana was a problem-solving, no-nonsense, get-it-done sort of cheetah. It seemed like this guy needed a kick in the rump to get him going, and she was just the girl to do it.

"I suppose you're right." he said with still a noticeable amount of gloominess his voice. She did seem sort of like the motivational speaker type only with a different sort of technique. Instead of simply speaking cheerfully and filling the air with patronizing attempts to get him to go with undeserved praises and telling him about the upside that was mostly false. No, she was more motivational the drill sergeant that will yell at you until you do it or he or in this case she can throughly convince you that horrible, horrible things will happen to you if you don't do what they say, when they say it. Obviously, she wasn't that nearly that severe but as a lion with a childish personality, he had a completely over-active imagination.

Soon after he had spoken to her, his imagination kicked it into overdrive and he began wondering what exactly she would do to him if he didn't get himself some food. After a few minutes of pondering with a blank stare on his face, he snapped out of it. "Yes, ma'am sir ma'am!", he shouted as if he had just gone to imaginary boot camp where he was taught to be a soldier. Or at least how he pictured a soldier. He began to march in place as he waited for her to give him his next "command".

Etana gave him a snotty look. Her time was valuable, and she didn't need to be wasting it on this silly lion.

She had already turned her back and was walking away when she tossed a few words back to him. "Do yourself a favor and learn how to hunt, Jaha."
