She would be lying if she said she was looking for an actual prince. In fact, it would have been the biggest lie she'd ever made in her life. Bigger than that time she claimed to have brought down the bird herself at her pup age, and bigger than the time she sad she'd floated daintily on a log when she'd really fallen off and had to swim.

In fact, it would be even bigger than the lie she told to passing strangers that she was waiting for her accompanying body guards to see her on her way. Not that they believed her, seeing as her ruffled coat and stank fur was not befitting of any princess.

That was why she was even attempting to look at those crocodile infested waters. Muddy though it was, it was by far cleaner than the coat which currently adorned her back. Whimpering lightly she paced back and forth, wincing as the mud squeezed between her toes. It wasn't that she minded, that was the problem. She shouldn't have been able to deal with these conditions! She was a princess and everything that happened to her should have left her defenseless and crying.

But she hadn't found her prince yet, so she trudged on, and that's why she was going across this river and getting clean in that nice sparkly pool on the other side. (The one she'd soon find was just a mirage).

Matima was tired.

SO tired.

The dog stumbled, then fell. Was it really worth it to get up? Where was he going, anyways? Gzifa had disappeared into the storm along with his brother, and though he'd searched nothing had turned up. The earth had been scoured and pounded clean of any tell-tale signs. It was like none of it had ever happened!

... with a sigh that was more of a groan, he pulled himself to his feet and took a few wobbly steps. He was pretty sure he'd smelled some other wild dogs THAT way, and maybe they'd be willing to help him out. A few good meals would make a world of difference.

Barely daring to hope, Mati plodded off in the direction of a nearby river. Life tended to stick around water sources, right?

... right. He just had to hope it was the kind of life he'd like to find.

Esra was about to jump when she herd the footfalls behind her. Instead of landing in the river as intented she strained and ear towards the coming animal. The result of a princess attempting two things at once was a faceful of mud.

Well, geez, she muttered to herself, scraping off the grey clay with a white paw. What was her coat color now? Creme. How disgusting. She was pure and white, just like a real woman.

Oh but what was that? Another that suffered such a fate as her? He was covered in grime, mud, cuts, and everything unattractive, but he had two traits she loved: He was a Wild Dog and male. Certainly her prince come to save her?

He must have been sent by mother, travelled many miles while battling lions and countless thousands of tasks to reach where she was now. It was only her duty to see to his wounds and nurture him until he was bursting with muscly goodness once more.

"Oh good sir!" she cried out, tiptoeing to his side and shoving her head against his muzzle. "You look awful! Pray tell, how can I be of service?"

... well.

She looked just about as bad as he did, if not worse! He felt cold mud smear on his muzzle at her touch, but he didn't mind. What was a little more mud, hmm? They were quite the pair! He could have laughed. Rather than reaching sanctuary himself, he found another who could use help. He'd never be able to turn her down when she asked for it and --

-- he blinked. She wanted to help HIM?

"I... no." Mati replied, his voice hoarse. He gave a brief wag of his tail to reassure her. Yes, all in one piece... "I'm alright, I'll... I'll be fine, I mean."

Maybe... maybe they could help each other? Yes... this must be why he was here. Why had he chosen this direction? The river harbored life... but how had he known a river was in this direction? It was his talent, of course.

He had come here for a reason, and she'd been here for a purpose too.

A faint, weary grin stretched across his muzzle and he stretched his lean form. "I should be the one asking those questions. The damsel in distress is normally the one who needs to be rescued... princess." The grin faltered as he took in her muddied form.

"Are YOU alright?" He asked, concern clear in his voice.

Esra beamed at his response. Just like a real prince to be all noble and pretend he wasn't hurt! She could have cried tears of happiness then and there. Oh at long last a real, honest to goodness, man.

The more he talked to more he sent her giddy with glee. This had to have been the happiest day of her life! At the word princess she would have, could have feinted, but she couldn't do that quite yet! Her work here was not yet finished.

"Oh sir, you're going to kill me with flattery," she balked, blushing apparent on her cheeks. He was handsome, despite all the mud, she decided.

"Oh, well, no, but I mean. . . it can wait," her voice stammered, unsure of how to react the question even though she'd played this scene out in her mind many a time before. She frowned and looked around. There really wasn't anyplace to go or be that didn't look the same as the rest.

"I'm afraid I'm far from home and there's no where to go," she dipped her head ashamed. No small cavern to take him in and feed him a hearty meal or otherwise. In fact, she was rater failing as a princess.

"I could try to catch something, I haven't had much luck, but my mother taught me a bit you see. . ." Well there she went. This was how she chased the all away before. Talk, talk, talk.

She shut her mouth and offered him a nervous smile.
