At my school, almost all cyms come on the line because they got cut from battery, or because we're frantically looking for someone to fill in. And it seemed like at least some people thought I was crazy for wanting to do cyms when I could get bass drum. On the line, we're often ignored. So I'm wondering... Are cyms usually so low, or is it just our school? Even on corps level... do people want it or are they placed on it after not getting batterie?

Aww man, See, I love the Cymbals, But they are definately the lowest form of drumline.
At my school there are only barely enough people to fill the line, So there are no cuts made. But when we finally filled up the bases and someone else joined, She got put on cymbals. I was actually jealous at first, But then my base captain came up and told me that you do not want to be assigned to cymbals.
You chose it, But yeah, It's not exactly a big post.

We don't have an actual cymbal line. We do for football games and pep assemblies, and those are the people in the pit. Cymbalies rule!!

Wow, my school must be strange. We've had people switch to cymbals from other instruments, just becaus they wanted to be on the line. Our cyms are also usually the center of atention, just because they are in the front. The cymbals may not be as versital as others, but they are invaluble to the band and drumline.

Our band has a negative attitude towards playing cymbas as well, and thus resulted in having none for a few years. I played bass for two years but everyone treated me like I didn't know anything...it was very depressing. I can't immagine how they treat cymbals. sad

Oddly, nobody has any prejeduce against any instrument...although our director has some against us in percussion...
Heck, everyone usually loves our cymbal players. XD We're losing them both though 'cause of a major black hole due to seniors leaving... So...one'll go to quads and the other'll go to snare, possibly... But three pit members are going to it on bass, so there's less of a hole... But I'll be the only pit...>.>;

we have two cym. players (Me and a guy named Kyle) and we both love it. heart
Heck, being on drumline at my school prolly wouldn't be any fun without Kyle.
I think its just that drummers would rather have a drum to play instead of just cymbals. *shruggs* I like playing bass and snare, but i wouldn't want to march them.

I hate having to march with cymbals. Your fingers start to hurt after a while.

Kirei_chan I hate having to march with cymbals. Your fingers start to hurt after a while. Whimp! LOL JKJKJKJKJK! I love my cymbals! Though I wan't able to play bass due to my *cough*size*cough*. But I'm glad I went in. I'm scared of the base drum now. I'm a dedicated cymbal player and the only freshman in it! (Out of 3 uppeclassmen that are like broz!)

Cymbals are a dumping ground for you guys? We had to cut like five people off our line for indoor this year. Maybe we're just ballin'.
Kirei: Uhh, You probably don't have the straps on tight enough. You shouldn't have to grip the pad of the cymbal, which would cause the hurting of the fingers. If anything, it should be your hand hurting.

No offence, but I really hate cymbal pads. They're so.... restricting.... But cymbal gloves are the best... Even though we stole some bando glaves...
XP
They're so slippery...

I'm the cymbal captain at my school, so, natrually I love cymbals! Too bad we HAVE to be rotated every 3 years at most...meaning this is my last year ='[ .
Oddley enough I'm also the youngest cymbal player...(I'm in 9th...the other one's in 11th...)
Well, I guess I have to play flute next year...
