The Dark Era
Before the dawn of time Magicians practiced the four elements of magic: wind, water, fire, and earth. The followers of each element built great temples dedicated their gods and great magicians. For hundreds of years the peoples lived together in harmony. Before long magicians began to twist the elements to do sinister deeds, and thus the dark era was brought about by magic. Dark magicians, or Ip-twam as they would later be called, used their magic to create great empires, the greatest of which was Atlantis.
Pure Magic
Five hundred years after the dark arts were twisted, Atlantis was still a strong water empire; with a powerful Ip-twam ruler, Xamp-tu. Xamp-tu ordered Perso, his right hand man and general, to attack Deridon, a rivaling empire. Perso turned against Xamp-tu and formed a rebellion.
Perso, after many years of trying to create an offensive to overthrow Xamp-tu, managed to create a more powerful magic, pure magic. After five hundred years of Ip-twam rule, and almost nonstop war between the elements and rivaling empires; the rebellion had succeeded in overt roughing the oppressive Ip-twam throughout Gladishil. Perso was then crowned emperor of Atlantis.
Life accounts of Perso
Perso knew that pure magic could be very dangerous if in the wrong hands, so he only taught five disciples pure magic, they would be known as Sacrids.
He established the supreme laws, laws that Sacrids must follow. The first law stated that one must seek peace before war. The second law stated that a Sacrid can only use magic for the good of society. The third and final law stated that a Sacrid can only teach one disciple. A Sacrid who broke a law would be stripped of their power and shamed forever.
Soon after writing the laws, Perso wrote the Seven Scrolls. The scrolls held his most powerful spells. It also showed how to find the Chalice of Life. Perhaps Perso’s most famous work, the Chalice of Life granted the drinker immortality.
Neximis
Years after the Atlantian Revolution, Perso ruled over Atlantis. One day a visitor came to Perso asking for the secrets of pure magic. When Perso denied, he said his name was Neximis, son of Xamp-tu, and rightful ruler of Atlantis. Perso banished him from the empire, and almost killed him in the process.
Neximis fled to the wastelands where the dark arts were still being applied. From the Ip-twam there, he learned to harness his hatred to make his water magic more powerful. He returned to Atlantis, pulling the waters over the empire, sinking and destroying Perso along with it. The five disciples survived, and vowed to keep Perso’s teachings alive.
