Heartless was feeling spiteful when she was walking around and that really was unusual since it was difficult for her to feel anything. Gazing around at the bleak snow, Heartless really hated winter. Snow just made everything wet and that just made it more difficult to travel around. She wished that this snow would just go away and she could just walk on regular grass again. Ever since Keiran grew up and wandered away from her, Heartless had sunk back into her dark abyss and she didn't know if she was ever going to come back.
The shadows enveloped her dark form and she moved from tree to tree as if she were a ghost. The only thing that distinguished her from the darkness around her were her piercing golden eyes.

It wasn't hard for Ariston to spot the familiar mare, and as he made his way through the shadows, his body shinned in a usual golden glimmer. How long had it been since he had visited Heartless? Surely she would be upset, and the stallion wondered how she would take to his random arrival. It wasn't that the stallion had forgotten about her, but he was busy with the mishaps of his children, especially Loveless, since she had rolled back and forth through many interchanges of life. He was learning that fatherhood was neverending, but Ariston secretly preferred it that way.
"Good evening, Heartless." he then said, in a bold voice. The stallion kept himself walking, and his purple eyes looked for those of golden eyes. Surely Heartless would notice him, since Ariston always made it easy for others to notice him. Either way, he knew it was right to come back to the mare, since they had a bond that was so comforting compared to others. It really had been too long since he chatted with his dear friend.

Heartless's eyes rested on the stallion and all of his shimmering glory. She hadn't seen him in awhile but she wasn't upset with him. He was her only friend, there was no way she could be upset with him. She just didn't understand why she was so lonely and why she just didn't fit in with everybody else. Then again... she didn't understand her emotions at all so all of this thinking and wishing to fit in was trivial in her case.
Frankly, she was even surprised that he had showed up and remembered her name. "Hello Ariston." But for some reason, she was compelled to stay in the security of the shadows so she didn't move to the open to greet him. "It's been awhile. How have you been?"

Heartless was still hiding, but Ariston was not phased. "Yes, it has been awhile, hasn't it? I have been well, and I can report that the children have been well as well." He paused slightly, while flicking his long mane. "But what about you? The air around us feels tense, doesn't it? Have you bee feeling alright?" He looked again to try and find her golden eyes, but he just couldn't see them.
"What plagues at your mind, Heartless?" He might have been asking some questions that were overly personal, but Ariston assumed that they needed to be asked. Something about the are was stiff, and he wanted to figure everything out before asking more. It might of been that he was slowly getting comfortable in the darkness, since it was a spot that Heartless loved. Or it might have been as simple as realizing it had been awhile since they last spoke, and breaking the ice was always difficult.

"That's good to hear. Getting into various mischief I hope?" Heartless shrugged even though he couldn't see her. "Good to hear. I've been decent. The world continues to spin and life goes on. So I imagine I should be alright." She raised a brow at his question; even though she hadn't come out in the open, there was no reason for him to think that there was something wrong. Unless there was just something that she was doing that she didn't understand. She couldn't feel the tension that she was creating.
"Nothing, as usual. Why do you ask that?" Heartless really didn't understand why he asked that but maybe there was a reason. Why did everything, no, why did she have to make everything so complicated?

"Ah well, if it is nothing, then my mistake." Ariston shrugged lightly, before walking a few more steps forward. "Yes yes, the world keeps turning, and time keeps spinning.. funny how that works, I never feel dizzy myself." With a light chuckle, his words were only there to entertain himself. "I myself am not getting into any kind of mischief, your daughter, perhaps, but me, I am but a saint." He could feel the lies on the tip of his tongue, and the stallion could only chuckle to himself once again before continuing on in his speech.
"I would compliment that you look good, but I still can't see you. Is there a reason you are hiding, Heartless? There is nothing to be nervous about, I believe you know who I am, right?" A kind smirk hit his grin, and he flicked his tail while watching for the shadowy figure. The moment was funny, and Ariston decided to just enjoy himself.

Heartless stood still and just observed him. Same ol' Ariston... "So true. Are you sure you can say you're a saint with a straight face?" The kalona couldn't help but giggle because she had to admit, Ariston did look like a saint even if he may not be one on the inside. It was funny how appearances were the most deceiving part of a person. "Well, you can't compliment me if you haven't seen me. What if I looked hideous? You'd be lying through your teeth. " She shrugged again, "No, no reason." After not seeing him for awhile, she had forgotten what trust was so she was finding it difficult to find that trust again. Heartless decided that it was alright if she came out into the open now. She stepped outside of the shadows and walked out in the open to wear Ariston was.

"Well, clearly you aren't hideous." Since.. the gold stallion COULD see her now. She was just as he remembered, and that made him smile. "But anyway, it is nice to see you out in the open again. "And this face doesn't lie, I have been very behaved. I have been too good, for my own tastes at least. I make everyone around me happy, and that is saintly, don't you think?" He shuffled his hooves before speaking once again.
"But anyway, have you seen any of the kids? Didn't Keir follow you around for awhile?" He hadn't seen his sons in quite awhile, and he wondered if Heartless knew anything about them. "Have you ventured out at all, to meet any other Soquili? There seems to be quite the variety walking around these days." The land seemed overpopulated with new faces, all the time! "But there is something comforting in knowing you have friends and family.." his voice trailed, since he was thankful for everyone he knew around him.

Heartless smiled as best she could when he complimented her. She hadn't heard words like that in a long time... but actually she hadn't talked to anybody in a long time either. "Oh really now." She had a hint of playful sarcasm in her words. "Well, that is nice but you should make sure you're happy first." She said nothing more on the subject. "I haven't seen Keiran in awhile but last time I saw him he was doing fine. I haven't seen any of the other kids in an even longer time but how's Loveless doing?" She paused slightly and then continued, "No. I haven't really wandered away from this area in awhile. I haven't even been following others; I've just been staying here most of the time." Heartless couldn't help but pause again, "Yea. It's comforting knowing that but I do not really care for meeting anybody else."

Goodness, Heartless still had her same habits, and that made Ariston frown, since that was so not fulfilling for the mare! He did worry about her, especially when she decided to never move away from her area. "You need to venture out, and see all of the wonders life has to give. There are lots of interesting personalities about, I'm sure you'd know what I meant if you snuck away once in awhile!"
It was a hopeless proposal, and he knew Heartless was not fond of such things. "But anyway, yes Loveless. She has been fine, at least at the moment she is. Now she is eternally hated by all other Kalonas, because she left them, you know. After following them for so long, apparently she got depressed, and then quickly after, she came back to me. I had to wip her into shape, and now she is back to her old, grumpy self. But she is much more tolerable and enjoyable! You would be quite proud." Since Ariston, was, of course. "I am hoping she and a friend hurry up and have children soon, so we can be grandparents. The idea seems so enjoyable to me, I am not sure why." But also, Loveless had found something that made her happy, and that also made Ariston ecstatic. "Heh, but besides that drama, I really have nothing else to report." Ariston suddenly wondered if he had become boring, but he quickly realized that was far from possible!

The mare shrugged and stared at him with blank eyes, "Even you know that's hopeless. I would never do that. I'm doing fine here so I see no reason to leave." She paused a looked a little distant for a second, "Not all of us were meant to be seen." But then she quickly returned to her regular self.
"That's good to hear. Regardless, I will always be proud of my children." She didn't even know why she said that, she didn't even know what it meant or felt like to be proud. "Oh, she's found someone that makes her happy? That's interesting but I'm happy for her..." Heartless could feel her voice trail away and a little more spite grow in the depths of her soul. But she pushed that to the back of her thoughts and nodded. "Grandparents. That's another interesting thought. Could you believe it Ariston? I wonder if I'll ever see them and be able to see our traits in them." She could feel herself muttering on. Maybe she should stop.

It was hard, trying to get through to Heartless. She was as consistent as ever, and the stallion assumed she would never change. He just enjoyed giving her a hard time, since he did that with everyone! "Alright, do as you wish." He flicked his long mane while staring off in the opposite direction.
He was surprised to hear her words about grandchildren, and Ariston brought his purple eyes back on the mysterious female. "Ah, so you like that thought? That means we are OLD though. OLD is not something I enjoy. But I suppose if grandchildren do happen, I will enjoy it nonetheless." Heck, Guilian had already done it twice, and he still had game! "I am sure you would see them, Grandpop' Ariston would bring them to you." The words sounded hilarious in his mind, and he smiled at the though. "I suppose its one of those things we will get used to as parents, and that's just the cycle that life takes."

Maybe someday Heartless would change but chances of that were pretty close to none. She needed something to hit the depths of her heart but that something needed to be equivalent to the world exploding. She continued to observe him with careful eyes; he was still the same old Ariston. But she was glad because she enjoyed his company. He was the only other soquili besides her children that really knew who she was. She hadn't let anybody else in... they didn't deserve it.
"I don't understand what it means to be old or feel old. But I assume from the way you put it, that it's a bad thing?" The mare shrugged slightly and continued, "I don't know if I want it per say but it just would be interesting... But yes, life does go on." She nodded rather solemnly.

"Well to some it is the end of the world. I suppose I will fill wiser, and that is always nice. But I fear I will obtain wrinkles, they are such dreadful and awful things." He lowered his eyes to his hooves, and seriously worried about such a fact. "I want to remain as youthful and beautiful as I can, but I really shouldn't be worried. I should just be happy for the children."
As much as he wanted to forget about some facts of life, sometimes they were harder to ignore then he thought. "You are lucky, if you can't concentrate on what old feels like. Maybe it is a mental thing, but I always assumed it was physical. Your body gets all achy, and you start to get tired... UGH, it sounds awful." Ariston shook his head angerly, before knowing and finding comfort that he wasn't in that position yet. "But when I describe i that way, I know I am nearly close to that stage yet, so if I keep my mind youthful, I am sure my body will stay positive with the same."

Heartless listened to Ariston's words carefully. She had learned a lot from him and his words helped her grasp the unknown, uncaring world around her a lot more. "I doubt you'll ever be like that but you can think that and your mind will start playing games with you..." Shrugging nonchalantly, Heartless believed everything had to do with the mind. Especially with how you look, sometimes you make yourself believe one thing but it's usually wrong and it takes another person to explain that to you. "I've never felt that way but it sounds dreadful. Hopefully it'll be a long time until you're like that Ariston." She couldn't tell if her words were empty or if she really meant them.
