“Just shut up, shut up, SHUT UP!” Sakura felt the adrenaline run through her arms as and she let out a scream and she threw a punch at the wall beside Sasuke’s head. The wall instantly blew up behind him into a million rocky pieces and fell to their feet, but he didn’t even flinch.
“Why are you getting so mad Sakura,” he asked calmly, his arms still folded across his chest. His eyes were cold and black on her, and their indifference hurt her more then the pang of pain that ran up her arm after punching the wall.
“Why am I… damn it Sasuke why do you think I’m so mad? I’ll give you one guess you stupid a** hole!” She couldn’t believe she was yelling at him like she was, she barely had the courage to say ‘hi’ to him when they were younger with out turning a deep shade of red from embarrassment. Now she wanted to take his head and run it across the rubble for a good long time. What did she see in him anyway?
“Naruto can handle himself if you haven’t noticed,” he said mater-of-factly as he started walking past her as if nothing had happened. “Like I just told you, we’ll find him when we find him.” She grit her teeth to stop from actually hitting him this time, her fists were already balled and her chakra was threatening to push her into doing the unthinkable to her teammate. This mission was going wildly off plan and she didn’t like it. They had lost a fight, Naruto got kidnapped and their was no way for them to contact for any back up since Sasuke so wonderfully forgot their communication devices back in Konoha and forgot to tell them until they were half a day gone from the village.
She tilted her head back and roared to get the access anger out of her body before following the dark haired young man deeper into the forest.
“We need to find shelter it’s nearly nightfall,” he said without so much as turning back to look at her. She grumbled in reply but kept an eye out any way because he did have a point. They walked for a few minutes before finding an opening in the side of a huge rock face. Sakura pointed it out and Sasuke checked inside it, and then finding it sufficient motioned for Sakura to come in. It was a bit of a tight fit but they could both lie out with out with a little room to spare for personal space. Sakura mumbled to Sasuke to be on the first watch because she was tired.
“We’ll look for him tomorrow don’t worry,” Sasuke said after about ten minutes of silence between them. Sakura was laying with her back to him and pretended to be asleep already, mostly hoping to make him feel stupid for talking to himself. She was so worried about Naruto she knew she wouldn’t be able to sleep at all, but she at least needed to try, and she also took into account that she would be easier to wake up in the middle of the night for second watch then he would be. Though not necessarily less grumpy.
She felt his arms around her and she smiled to herself as she nuzzled close into him. Naruto always hogged the sheets but it was ok as long as he let her snuggle close to him because he was just as warm as the coziest blanket. She took in a deep breath to smell him but was greeted with a different smell and her eyes flew open suddenly.
“You talk in your sleep,” Sasuke said as he looked down at her in his lap. She quickly sat up and pushed away from him, blushing. Why the hell did she end up on that a** holes lap of all places!
“Who cares,” she grumbled, still a bit groggy and frowned. It was the middle of the night she could tell that much through the lighting (or lack there of) coming from the opening of the cave. The light was enough that she saw him smirk at her through the dark and narrowed her eyes at him, to which he narrowed his eyes back at her. They continued to do it back and forth until their eyes were squinted closed then both of them laughed.
“There we go, I like it when you laugh better then when you’re angry,” he said giving her half a smile.
“Yeah, yeah,” she said rolling her eyes but still smiling herself. “It better be time for me to take over or I’m going to be really grumpy,” she said looking over at him.
“Yeah it’s pretty much time. You want to know what you were saying or not?”
“What?” Sakura tilted her head not knowing what he meant at first but then remembered what he was referring to. “Not really, but I think you’re going to tell me anyway so go ahead.” He crossed his arms and leaned back against the dark cave wall.
“Well at first it was just incoherent stuff but then you were mumbling about how ‘snuggly’ Naruto was. Now how would you know something like that Sakura?” She pouted and looked away from him.
“Who knows? Now get some sleep we have to be well rested for tomorrow.” Sasuke raised his eyebrows at her.
“Hmm, tying to avoid the subject are we? I thought you had a crush on me Sakura-chan, not the knuckle head ninja,” he said with no sign of moving to go to sleep. Sakura still didn’t look at him but was glad it was dark enough that he probably couldn’t see how much she was blushing. When she didn’t answer he leaned forward to whisper in her ear.
“Don’t you still like me, Sakura-chan?” She felt a shiver go up her spine but managed to bat him away from her ear and laugh it off.
“Sasuke really, come on were grown people here not kids. That was a long time ago,” she said patting his shoulder. As she did he took her wrist in his hand and moved her hand up to his face and kissed the palm, then each finger as she sat there frozen in shock. When he got to her thumb he used it to trace his lips, and locked his eyes on hers. She could only stare at him hoping her body was not betraying what she had just said to him.
