I just got a chance to watch all 6 Rurouni Kenshin OVAs and I just wanted to talk about them here in this Guild with fellow R.K. lovers. So please comment on what you thought about the OVAs and if you thought that they provided a deep insight into the show/characters.

I thought they were crap because they were nothing like the original series or the manga. It was like they used Ruroken as an excuse to make an ugly drawn shitty storylined anime O_o

I didn't really like them all that much either. I was very disappointed that the entire thing was basically only about Kenshin and Kaoru. They should have talked more about wut happened with the other characters as well. Like Misao and Aoshi. But at least we all know the history behind kenshin's scar. But why did it have to end that way?!?! crying crying crying

i loved 1-4 cause they showed how nightmareish the bakumatsu was, and what the revolutionists truly fought for. 5 & 6 however were total crap. they butchered Watsuki's legacy.

If you believe that Jesus Christ is the Savior of humanity and aren't afraid to say so, paste this into your signature.Tsuiokuhen rocked. Seisouhen sucked. Enough said.

Seisouhen was just angst for angst sake. It's Kenshin, determined to be miserable and not caring how miserable he makes his family. He up and leaves them for no reason at all other than his selfish notion of atonement. The whole thing is so pointless and frustrating, it makes me want to tear my hair out when I think of it.

*sigh* If only they hadn't decided to air those God-awful fillers at the end of the series. THEN MAYBE we wouldn't have to settle with those inaccurate, emotionally-aimed OVAs. It was a great series. Too bad it had to die shamefully.

I agree with Yami no Hitokiri 120%. The Seishounen and Tsuiokuhen have terrible art and I especially hated the fact that they killed off Kenshin in the end! If you read the book series, especially the couple short stories written after RK, it CLEARLY says that Kenshin didn't go off wandering and died from tuberculosis or something. He's HEALTHY and CLEAN and HAPPY, basically, he's his hot self. 3nodding

Having just gotten to Vol. 19 of the manga, I have to say that I could really go either way. I understand how the animators structured the story in terms of chronology in order to have it make more sense, but on the other hand, I am of the school where it takes away from the original if you don't follow the story in the movie, series, etc. I think the OVAs were good for what they were, because people tried to make them worth the time of the watcher, but overall, you're right. The laziness of the animators shows through more than the trying to make everything 'right.'

I loved 'em both! I actually prefer the OAVs to the actual TV series... Sorry guys! lol I saw the Samurai X episodes first, and was completely blown away. Then I started watching the regular anime, and truth be told, I was a little disappointed... At first. Haha. Then I got used to it and loved it in its own right. Then I saw Reflection/Seishouhen and that blew me away too. What can I say? I just love the OAVs! <3

I myself loved it. It was so much better than the animee, and provided closure, when the manga left you unsatisified.
