Yoshiki (The founding member)Drums & Piano Yoshiki Hayashi is a legend. He formed the group X Japan with Toshi after their band X during highschool. They later met Taiji and hide and Pata. After Taiji and Yoshiki couldn't get along together they found Heath. They played lives and released demos but they could not get signed to any record company because they're sound was too "angry" so Yoshiki's mom sold her kimono business to help him out and thus Yoshiki founded Ecstasy records, Ecstasy records is the record company which started artists such as GLAY, LUNA SEA,the Trax, Dir En Grey and many others who I've forgotten. They later changed their name to X JAPAN because of international bands with the same name. I don't even had to say it, X JAPAN began the visual era and changed music history forever. Inspiring the artists of today and introducing a new sound of music to the Japanese public. After the Death of hide however, Yoshiki went into a great depression and shut him self from the world in Los Angeles. He returned in early 2003 I think? (correct me if I'm wrong) promoting violet UK and writing a song for hide called "without you" Now Yoshiki is still very active with Ecstasy records, with Violet UK, With S.K.I.N. and with the re-union of X JAPAN. He is known to all of his fans as "The king of Visual Shock" or "The Father of Jrock" let us bow now :3

Through music, I am given life. "Something" exists that many people have lost sight of and yet know the truth of deep down inside. My desire is to create music that may function as a reminder of this forgotten "something." I truly hope that my music might serve as a force to help unite all living creatures, this planet, and the cosmos into one. To bring about a deep understanding that is beyond borders, race, religion, and nationality. To encourage the evolution of people's consciousness."
Born to a family of musicians on Tuesday, July 8, 1969 in Kanagawa, Japan, it was no surprise that SUGIZO was a natural musical virtuoso. His career in music started at the tender age of three when his father placed a violin in his hands—the first of many instruments (including guitar, bass, trumpet, electric sitar, turn tables, and more) that he would master and color his career with.
Inspired by Kenji Oomura of Yellow Magic Orchestra, SUGIZO’s aspirations to become a musician began in seventh grade, with the purchase of an acoustic guitar. However, when he failed to master the instrument within a week, he gave it up in favor of focusing on the violin and the trumpet. His interest in the band, JAPAN, led him to David Bowie and subsequently, the British New Wave scene, which later on evolved into an interest in punk music in ninth grade. As he entered tenth grade, SUGIZO’s taste in music spread into jazz, and he instantly found a deep affinity with Miles Davis, Jaco Pastorius, and Wynston Marsalis, which redirected his musical aspirations towards jazz. As a result, SUGIZO picked up guitar once more—but this time, he also picked up a bass guitar, with the intent of becoming a vocalist and a bassist. The purchase of an electric guitar led to a desire to master the instrument as a jazz guitarist, giving up the violin temporarily to do so. However, this soon changed a year later. Though SUGIZO devoted his life to guitar, he didn’t focus on jazz, as one would expect of an aspiring jazz guitarist. Instead, he played covers of Police, Eddie Van Halen, Steve Vai, Motley Crue, and Frank Zappa, and formed his first band in high school with his lifelong best friend, Shinya, starting off as a bassist.
SUGIZO’s participation in a band promoted his social status to that of a pseudo-“hero” in high school. Little did he know, his nascent meanderings into the scene would be the start of a very successful career. Graduating from high school resulted in the graduation into “real” bands. Forming PINNOCHIO with Shinya, SUGIZO made the switch to guitar, and gained a rival in the form of another indies band, Lunacy. Lunacy’s founders, J and INORAN, had recognized Shinya’s drumming talent and recruited him for their band, bringing along SUGIZO with the end of PINNOCHIO. Pulling in RYUICHI from another rival band, SLAUGHTER, the final line-up was completed, and the band renamed itself as “LUNA SEA”. From the ashes of PINNOCHIO’s dissolution, LUNA SEA rose, inaugurating their ascension to the zenith of the Asian rock industry on May 29, 1989 at the Machida Playhouse—the same livehouse where X Japan guitarist, hide, would later on discover their talent.
Signing to EXTASY RECORDS, LUNA SEA released LUNA SEA on April 21st, 1991. The convergence of five different members with very different musical backgrounds resulted in the coining of a completely original, innovative, fresh sound that later on became known as the trademark “visual kei sound” so many bands today now boast. Their early look, considerably tamer than X Japan, traveled on a spectrum from a dark, elegantly aristocratic gothic milieu, to an elaborate, dramatically wild punk look, softened by touches of glamour—a spectrum visual kei bands still religiously follow today. It was for this look and sound that LUNA SEA became veritable rock legends whose dramatic influence still survives today, seven years after their disbanding in 2000. But it was for their innovation that they quickly rose to fame, amassing a quickly-growing fanbase that soon caught the eye of major record labels. On May 21st, 1992, LUNA SEA marked their majors debut with IMAGE, on MCA Victor.
As the lead guitarist, violinist, backup vocalist, and a key composer for LUNA SEA, SUGIZO broke boundaries and cultural conventions unheard of in Asia with his charismatic personality, avant garde image, and brilliant skill. LUNA SEA were founding fathers of the visual kei (visual shock) revolution of the early 1990s in Japan (along with bands such as X JAPAN, BUCK-TICK, and Kuroyume)—a revolution that glorified androgyny and beauty. Capitalizing on his innovative aesthetic sense, SUGIZO instantly became a fan favorite, right alongside the hugely popular guitarist, hide. However, SUGIZO was incredibly unhappy. In an interview with Guitar Lab, he admits, “I was angry at everything, and always irritated about something. I smoked tons of cigarettes and just tossed them wherever. Garbage, too. I hit people, got drunk and had fights, caused trouble in stores. I never considered that I was hurting other people. I was pretty much always angry at that time. I don’t think that I could avoid letting that out somehow.”
With LUNA SEA quickly gaining momentum with chart-topping releases, SUGIZO enjoyed the way success tasted, and wanted more of it. However, he was still unsatisfied. “Even though we had great sales and played lots of shows, there were some things missing. I mean, my own hopes and desires. For example, even though we played Tokyo Dome, I was really scared and felt that we were somehow being made fun of. I wanted to triumph over others. I wonder why? I used to look at the people around me and think “are they idiots?” Even though we were only 23 or 24, we were always being catered to by adults. Tons of men in business suits from the record company always came. Now, I just don’t pay attention. When I look back, I think “Oh, that’s just how they were” instead of “Aren’t they stupid?” We were fussed over by so many people, and I just didn’t care.”
With maturation in the industry, SUGIZO’s attitude began to change. “I must have changed at some point, because I developed into who I am now. And if I look back, I think I avoided becoming really egotistical. It wasn’t what I was searching for most. The desires of the child who just wanted to be noticed were fulfilled, and when that happened, I realized that the true reason for me to live was not just to be recognized by others. After standing on stage in front of 10,000 people, I ended up just wanting to make music, to live, not to be noticed or praised, which was my first impetus.” SUGIZO’s evolution out of a world of negativity began to reflect in his music. The birth of his daughter, Luna, in 1996, acted as a catalyst for SUGIZO to begin appreciating life, nature, and the world around him.
In 1997, LUNA SEA went on hiatus for a year, allowing their members to explore solo work opportunity. During this time, SUGIZO released his first solo album, "TRUTH?" released on his own label, CROSS. A convergence of experimental work and brilliant collaboration with artists worldwide, the album explored an aspect of SUGIZO never before imagined by the public. Vastly different from his work with LUNA SEA, "TRUTH?" carved SUGIZO out to be far more than just another guitarist in a famous rock band—revealing him to be a brilliant composer whose talent far exceeded the role he filled in LUNA SEA. This was not an angry, violent rock star who only cared about the size of his own ego and dabbled in the infamous decree of sex, drugs, and rock and roll. This was, instead, a spiritually-charged, positive musician who had finally begun to embrace life, leaving his anger behind in the past to focus on music, and on giving back to the world in a passionately altruistic way. The band regrouped in 1998, pausing SUGIZO's explorations with his solo work—but not his side collaborative and production projects with other artists. With LUNA SEA disbanding in 2000, a legacy ended.
But every ending is only the beginning of another new chapter. In 2001, SUGIZO began a production company, InterLUXIZ, in conjunction with embryo, his new label. He collaborated with dozens of artists, and produced several successful acts such as Vivian Hsu, Nicholas Tse, and Miu Sakamoto. During 2001, SUGIZO began to film for his first acting debut—a starring role in an art film, Soundtrack. He also ended up writing all the music that was used within the incredible convergence of cinematography, storytelling, and music. During this time, SUGIZO’s interest in humanitarian efforts came to light when he joined Ryuichi Sakamoto’s campaign, ZERO Landmine—the first of many campaigns he would later on participate in. Simultaneously, SUGIZO developed a project known as SUGIZO & THE SPANK YOUR JUICE. The members of THE SPANK YOUR JUICE all seemed to be drawn from various different musical backgrounds. Primarily acting as backup musicians, only half of the band recorded on any releases. SUGIZO covered most aspects of the production—recording vocals, guitars, bass, and more. He also drew ex-bandmate, Shinya, to record on most of his releases. By the end of THE SPANK YOUR JUICE project in 2004, SUGIZO had released three separate singles and performed more than twenty live concerts.
In August 2004, The FLARE, which featured a young artist, YUNA, (originally from boy band, Lazy Knack and RED), was announced. By the time of the announcement, SUGIZO’d developed into a very spiritual and passionate individual who wasn’t afraid to speak his mind on controversial issues such as global warming, the environment, the War in Iraq, the need for peace, and many other issues that he considered important. With The FLARE, SUGIZO wanted to transmit his messages through his music, and bring a little flare of light into the hearts of those who heard his message. In an interview with UV (ultra veat), SUGIZO said, "It's not to pretend that you're not seeing the darkness It's to look at it and do something for it. I think that's the reason why music exists." He further emphasized this belief in Guitar Lab: "When people are creating music everyone can become more unified and head not towards the dark but towards the light and they can connect to one another with love in their hearts.”
In April 2005, SUGIZO formalized activity with a jam band, SHAG, which he originally started with Mick Karn (bass), DJ Baku (turntables), and K-Ta (vibraphone, percussion) in 2002. As time progressed, more SHAG members were added to the line-up to include Tadokoro(karimba), Kenji Yoshinura (percussion), Ken Ken (bass), FIRE (bass), TOKIE (bass), Shinpei Ruike (Trumpet), and sTILL-mAn a.k.a sAk (pismo, turn tables). Their purpose in the world of music was to have a great time jamming, improvising, and creating "psychedelic music and progressive rock" influenced by New Wave, funk, jazz, and primitive styles, in addition to dubbing and trance as a way to convey their spirituality. Putting on a series of “NEO ASCENSION GROOVE” shows with other bands, SHAG sought to share their “psychedelic funky sound” with fans all across Japan. SUGIZO’s activities in SHAG were, at first, second to his participation in The FLARE. However, while The FLARE succeeded in topping the Indies Charts on the Oricon with every release, their first album, “The FLARE”, was also their last. The FLARE played their final show on March 24, 2006, bidding goodbye to a surprised fanbase that had expected more from the band.
In June 2006, SUGIZO announced his participation in STOP ROKKASHO, a campaign led by Ryuichi Sakamoto to speak out against the nuclear reprocessing plant in Rokkasho, Japan. The project consisted of musicians, artists, and writers around the world contributing their work to stand together as an artistic community against the horror of nuclear power in a Japan that still keenly remembered the devastation of Nagasaki and Hiroshima. Working with Toshinori Kondo, SUGIZO produced “TEARS FOR MOTHER EARTH” as a contribution to the campaign. Not long after this time, he formed S.T.K. (Sensual Technology Kooks) with his good friend, Tetra. Like SHAG, S.T.K.’s purpose was to be an improvisational jam band. However, S.T.K. didn’t exist solely for the sake of jamming, but to convey important messages with a revolutionary avant-garde sound that might even be considered as postmodern by musicologists. S.T.K.’s concerns were predominately focused on the environment, nature, and Mother Earth. They also participated in events for STOP ROKKASHO, as well as at various festivals.
Throughout 2006, most of SUGIZO’s attention was spent on SHAG and S.T.K., but neither of these projects resulted in recorded music. He also worked with Earth Day Tokyo, an event he's publicly supported since 2004. On December 27, 2006, the world was taken for a spin when it was announced that SUGIZO would be the third member of a project YOSHIKI (X JAPAN) was putting together with Gackt. News of the “superband” quickly made headlines, exciting fans worldwide when it was announced that the band had the intent of “making it big worldwide” with “high-impact, explosive rock music.” On May 26, 2007, at the Jrock Revolution Festival held at The Wiltern in Los Angeles, CA, the band was finally inaugurated as S.K.I.N., with Miyavi’s official debut as the second guitarist of the superband. The group made their global debut at Anime Expo in Anaheim, CA on June 29, 2007.
We eagerly await to see where SUGIZO will take this next chapter in the amazing story of his career, and will follow his every step with great anticipation. Regardless of what the future brings, SUGIZO has “so much gratitude for what we call “music,” which has enabled me to create new things and express myself. I’ve chosen the muse of music. Therefore no matter what, I won’t stop doing it. And it’s clear to me that the reason I’m in the place I am is not just to fulfill my old urge for fame or my own desires. I think that I must leave behind something for the next generation. Most artists are given a mission. I truly feel that people who live only for themselves become unhappy, lose their radiance. I really love the next generation, this world, and nature, and want to live a beautiful planet to them. Our parent’s generation made a lot of mistakes, so we need to rectify some of them before we pass the earth on to the next group of people. I want to make music for the sake of life. That’s where I’m focusing my energy.”

Gackt! Vocals

Contrivesy:: [I'll start with this because it's what everyone is thinking. ]] Well if you don't know Gackt there's a chance you've never watched his master card commefcials, Never Watched the monstrosity known as "moon Child" or ever played Final Fantasy: Dirge of Cerberus.
To many people he is known as the "king of Jrock" which is I think a laughable aspect.
There are rumors saying that Gackt is...qoute un qoute the "face" to sell to the America/European Audiece, IF you're Japanese Yoshiki and Sugizo are Love enough, but most fans have no idea who anyone but Gackt is :/ (if it was really a super band I think Kiyoharu would be on Vocals >>; )
Moving on. The Voice that made Malice Mizer

Gackt's Career I think began with some other band before he joined Malice Mizer, there...it goes without a doubt that his voice is responsible for making them a success. Gackt's voice captivated audiences and infatuated women all over Japan, With the new born Lolita and visiual kei moving forward it was like a beginning era taking over the reigns of Luna Sea & X Japan.
This was the era most popular and financially paced for Malice mizer, with many tours and singles selling. Gackt's voice and talent went known and he got admired.

However shortly before the death of Kami (the drummer) Gackt decided to go solo, this shocked audiences and it was believed that he did this because of kamis death but it was planned before he died. (Kami died of a brain thing..ummm I think it was a neurosis...I always forget but it's a random thing that can happen to anyone really it just happened to him ;-; )
he went solo I think by releasing the single :Vanilla and he did two performances in Los Angeles. after this the Gackt Project was born (or it was born already I really don't know the Gackt sotry I'm just saying what I know, if I'm wrong please correct me >>''' ) He released may albums and singles, sung in Korean, English and Chinese. Gackt became a household name and he is a very successful man smile He was actually friends with Yoshiki for a very long time before they decided to make a band, =w= that's all I know.
