 The little dog pushed her body under the wooden barrier that blocked her from her freedom on the other side. Her body strained, as her paws clung to the earth as she scraped against the ground to pull herself. Her floppy ebony ears remained close to her head, as her tongue stuck out from her mouth in concentration. Sweat droplets beaded off her forehead. Only slightly, only showing her exertion.
Finally! Her body propelled from the hole, and she was out of the grassy, trampoline'd backyard that had once held her prisoner and kept her from freedom. Her chocolate eyes gleamed as she smiled, her head in the air as she ran, carefree and issue-less. She escaped once every few weeks. Her humans always found her and dragged her back home.. Saying one day she'd get herself in trouble.. But she continued, and they had tried so in vain to keep her from being able to. But Clare was a clever dog, and no fence kept her back from the streets of the suburbs.
The houses were close together, each sharing a driveway, just double-wide. The houses were the same, all made of brick and all carrying the same layout, or at least similar.
Her tail wagging, she as free once again.

A young fluffy dog sat nearby on his master's porch. His blue eyes seemed dull and lifeless as he watched the life around him move on. There was no barrier between him and the outside world. His master trusted him, and he respected that. Children walked by on their way home from school. Not even bother to glance at the lazy mutt. This pup had never seen so many of these creatures all at once. Before now he only knew of his owner and her boyfriend. Such a weird place, so many people, no forest or fields to run around in. Not that he had the energy to run anyway.
His ears perked, watching as a little black and white pup struggled to get from under a fence. Now, he was used to other creatures. Squirrels, rabbits, foxes, he had even seen a deer once or twice. There's 'nother one of my kind? He thought. That was when he first discovered that there was another dog in the world.

Clare halted, dead in her tracks as she caught the scent of the other dog. Her nose twitched, and the sensitive tissue continued to sniff the scent of the other.
Her head turned to the side, as if she was cocking it, and she was now facing him completely. He was relaxing on the porch, something she could never do without wriggling to run.
Her tail wagged a bit, as her eyes gazed over him.
He had long fur, with blue streaks into it. Now, she knew her humans had cats.. But another dog was a new one to her.. But this one had pointy ears..
Was he a cat?
The pretty pup dashed up to the porch, not stepping up, but standing in front of it.
"Hello."
She said, cocking her head and wagging her tail, tongue hanging from her mouth.

The shaggy dog definitely wasn't expecting the pup to be so quick with her steps. But he didn't really care. It was surprising to know that there was another one like him around these parts.
"Hey."
He shifted his feet a bit, not knowing whether to feel uneasy about her being so friendly or not. Master always taught him to be friendly with every living thing. So upon closer inspection of this pup, it seemed to almost look like a baby cow. He hoped he hadn't mistaken a cow for a dog. Can cows live in such small areas?
"Or...uh...moo. If that's your language." He chuckled softly, and slowly swished his tail. "Does this little cow have a name?"

Clare cocked her head, her tongue still lolling from the side of her maw. Her chocolate eyes were gazing at this strange dog.
Indeed he was odd.. Had he just.. mooed to her? She shook her head. She had no idea what a cow was, but she knew she wasnt one!
"But, Im not a cow." She said, her eyes looking confused and her tail wagging slightly. She wasn't a cow, but maybe he was joking.. He could joke right? She smiled again, disregarding the fact that he had just mooed to her.
Cow..Cow..Cow.. FINALLY! She knew what that animal looked like now. She recalled looking at the little girl who owned hers, little childrens books.. One had the image of a cow, with the imprint MOO really big..
So.. She was definately not a cow then.
"My name is Clare. What's your name, Mister?"
She asked, her cuteness almost unbeatable.

The mutt chuckled again.
"I guess I haven't ever seen a cow wag it's tail so hard as you. Master calls me Gohan." His accent was obviously different from the dialect that was often used in the suburbs. Words came out and lingered slower, obviously from the country.
To him, she still looked like a cow, and would probably never fade from his mind. "So, Cla-ow? What's your name again? Anyway. You are a dog, right? We don't get much of my kind in my area. 'Cept for the coyotes and those ain't too friendly."
Deciding to get up from his sitting spot, he got up and walked closer to her. He gave her a quick sniff of the face.

Clare's tail wagged as Gohan said his name. It was cute. And his accent was much different than the dogs and cats that lived at her little girl's house.
She smiled, and her brown eyes were soft and lively.
"My name is Clare. C-L-A....Well.. You get it." She said. Trying to spell her name, and failing a bit. Least she got those three letter right? Yay for her!
"And of course Im a dog. My little girl says Im a Good dog all the time!"
She said wagging her tail.
"Until I get out.. Then the older girl yells at me.. and calls me Bad Dog. So I guess I am a dog."
Her eyes closed as he sniffed her face,and her nose wrinkled as she sneezed.
"Coyote?"
Her eyes looked worried.

Gohan's ears perked as she mentioned she was called bad dog. "So...are you really a bad dog? What do you do that's bad?"
The mutt jumped with she sneezed on him. "It's weird, you kinda smell like flowers." Gohan said, then cleared his throat and sat down beside Clare. "Yeah, 'dem coyotes can be mighty mean. They don't have owners. There ain't many humans where I come from, there's no one to take care of 'em."
He shrugged, not really caring about the coyotes. "What's it like here? There's so many houses."

She looked at herself, confusedly. Giving him a weird look, she then shrugged her shoulders and started to smile again.
"I smell like flowers? Well mister, I know of better things to smell like."
She wasn't too sure she liked the way some flowers smelled. They made her nose itch, and she wasn't fond of sneezing.
"I'm not a bad dog.. Except when I escape.. Like.. Well.. I am now!"
She said grinning, and beating her tail against the ground.
"No masters, huh? I couldn't live without my little girl.. Maybe thats why Im not a coyote?"
She said, wagging her tail and questioning.
She didn't meet too many like her.. But she was happy to have some company.
"It's really quiet here.. Not much to do... But I like to explore.. And the more houses, mean the more places to sniff!"

Gohan stared blankly at the dog. What in the world was she talking about? Maybe he just wasn't paying close attention to every word she said.
"Yeah, flowers. Yeah, coyotes. Umhmm, houses." He muttered in response. Man, she spoke fast. He could hardly keep up with her. Squinting his eyes he looked down at her, and wagged his fluffy tail. Clearing his throat, he made it clear that it was his turn to say something.
"Okay, little gal." He got up and walked out of his yard onto the sidewalk. "Take me on a tour."

She cocked her head as he stood, but her tail wagged, and she started panting agian, eyes somewhat large.
"Really? A tour?! Id love to! The houses are all over!"
She jumped in the air, and dashed to the front of the yard, where she turned to wait for him.
After a few moments, her eyes grew confused.
"Where did you wanna go first?"
She asked, remembering she hadn't had the manners to ask before.
Oh what would her little girl think of her? She wagged her tail, waiting.

Gohan's mouth hung open, worried about all the energy this girl had. He hoped she wouldn't explode if she didn't release it all at once. With a weary gaze, his blue eyes wandered around the houses. They all pretty much looked the same. None of them looked interesting at all.
"How 'bout you just show me somethin' interesting?" His accent, slow like molasses. "There's plenty here, but nothin' seems to stand out."
He didn't think twice about his master. Surely she wouldn't care about him taking a little walk around the neighborhood.

Clare jumped in the air in excitement, then hunkered down to think. Her paw to her chin, and one eye narrowed, with her tongue sticking from the side. She had a definately cartoon look right then.
"Well.."
She wagged her tail.
"Do you like trees, squirrels, and open air?"
She asked, panting a bit.

Gohan cocked his head to the side, a dumbfounded look on his face.
"They have squirrels here?" He looked around, as if he were searching for one. "I dun see any...Are there rabbits too?" His tail began to wag softly with excitement.
"I sure do love me some open air." He looked at Clare and smiled. "Take me to this place, little lady."

Clare giggled, and wagged her tail, her expression happy as she jumped into the air.
"Yay!" She said. She loved chasing squirrels. They were so much fun.
She looked into his face and smiled.
"I'll show you things you never saw before."
And with that, she took off, her eyes grinning as she lead him away.
