They should allow girls in. It's not fair. If you're good enough, you should be allowed in.
Omg, the guard instructor/drill coordinator from last year used to be in the caveliers. He was evil Nazi person. i hated him with a passion.

They're 1 of 2, and if they changed that, they just wouldn't be the Cavaliers anymore.
Besides that, they originated from a Boyscout troop, and as far as I know, people from Illinois are pretty adamant about their roots.

The caviliers have a tradition of being all male and they want to keep that

Not to sound like a sexist, but have you ever heard of a female soloist in the I & E competitions making it to the finals on something besides melodics? An all-female Corps wouldn't really have too great of a chance at being somewhere near the top.

I marched corps last summer.
I loved it beyond words.
And I plan to do it until I age out.
But knowing that I will never have to opportunity to be a member of one of the world's top corps, means that I don't have an equal opportunity to be a world champion as a male.
I know of the tradition that they uphold to, but since it is a boyscout troop and the boyscouts are a nationanationally recognized as a christian organization, they are usually erected by a church.
In the case of the Cavaliers, the city of Park Ridge Illinois sponsored the establishment of this corps.
And according to records, Park Ridge was a Christian society run by the church in 1948 when the corps was established.
So, why do they not discriminate against sexual orientation as well as gender?
To me, this is completely appalling.
Does this mean, to be a member of the Cavaliers, I would have to be a get a sex change?
I happen to very much dislike the Cavaliers and their organization.
I think if they allow males who aren't boyscouts, religious, and don't discriminate against sexual orientation, then they should allow females into the corps as well.
They can't say that they uphold to their traditions if, in actuality, they only uphold to part of tradition. Otherwise, they are just being selective.

The Caveliers are freaking awesome!!!! I wish they would allow girls to join, though. We had a guy come in to help our marching band from the Caveliers! He was really cool, he played baritone and trombone!

The problem with the creation of a female group would be the same problem that is with all feeder corps like Blue Devils B and C for example. Do these corps prepare you, have similar standards, goals and staff as the Division 1 Blue Devils corps? Not usually.
The female group of Cavaliers might be looked upon at the same level as a feeder corps might be.

Cavies march weird. Like their battery, the way they crab. When they crab, their feet are sideways and heels down. That puts all the strain in think on your hips I think. But, yeah, they're cool. Didn't understand their show in 2007, but 2004 rocked.

It's a private organization that isn't forced to accept girls into their ranks. They can choose to be as selective (or not selective) as they want. Perhaps one day they'll start only accepting members of a certain height range. I personally think it's all male simply for uniformity's sake. In case you haven't noticed, your body is different from that of a guy. Even in a uniform, hips and breasts stick out to some degree. Bottom line: they don't care what you think.

While the Cavaliers are a very good corps, not being in the Cavaliers doesn't mean that your chances of winning are lower. The Blue Devils have more championships (is it 11 or 12 now?). Since the Cavaliers are currently the only "top tier" all male corps (hopefully the Madison Scouts can make a comeback), there are at least 5 other corps in the top 6 (an extremely elite group, especially in the last several years) that allow females.
Bottom line: If they get enough talented males to audition (which won't be a problem anywhere in the near future), they don't need to allow females. They currently have no affiliation with a church or Boy Scout troop, and so have dropped some membership requirements which those affiliations would entail. However, they choose to keep the all-male requirement.
Here's their explanation: (from www.cavaliers.org)
"It's not that The Cavaliers think men can do it better, or that women couldn't hack it, it's that they want to rejoice in the brotherhood that can only be felt by working, sweating, and bleeding with other men. It's a special type of bond. There are a lot of excellent corps out there that accept women; The Cavaliers do not.
Is The Cavaliers being all-male what makes them great? No, it's part of what makes them The Cavaliers."
As for the question of why they don't discriminate on sexual orientation, the administration of the corps has a (as stated on their website) "don't ask, don't tell" policy.
