White toed paws slowly made their way through the old lands, the large female's eyes intent, straight ahead.
Old scars were raked across the gigantic female's nose, scars of a time long ago and best forgotten.
A white muzzle rose skyway, smelling the air, and advanced.
It had been a long time since Mioyo had walked these lands-- with a mate, with a friend... With her children. And she had but two of four left, and her son did not linger by. Her daughter, of course, was always someplace close by, but today, Mioyo had journeyed on her own to pay her respects to her fallen loved ones and friend.
It did not, however, seem to go uneventful.

For the life of her, Kabichi could not find Taichi for their journey into her homelands, but Melhor, ever a dutiful son, had remained close.
The female sat, recalling the day her family was slain-- a memory forever haunting her mind as she ran away....
She didn't pay attention to the grass, forcing herself this time to calm.
Melhor danced about his mother's feet merrily, before the small black ball of fluff stopped, snifing curiously, before pawing his mother's leg.
"Mama, Mama, there's someone here...."

Mioyo rose her head, upper lips curling at the desecrators aggressively, green eyes narrowing as she haunched, beginning to stalk towards the smaller female and cub.
The child knew no better, but an adult lion ought know the land of the dead. Slowly, Mioyo approached, no noise erupting from her throat... The liger-sized lioness barely disguised in bushes.

Kabichi's ears pricked, not believing her son until she scented another. The female blinked in alarm, briefly panicking before moving defensively over her son, ears flattening as she bared fangs, letting out a threatening roar she didn't even know she had.
Melhor whimpered, huddling behind his mother's leg.

Mioyo hissed, remaining low at the warning. It was a mother... With a child, and Mioyo felt a twinge, remembering her first litters, and rose fully, towering over the landscape fiercely.
"What brings a mother," The lioness growled. "To a land of the dead?"

Kabichi frowned, studying the older female a bit before blinking. No, it couldn't be.... Could it....?
The female stood tall, squaring her chest and studying the female. She'd known but two lions who ever towered so-- a feat even to the small lioness, so much smaller than most.
"I have come to pay my respects, and to tell my son of his heritage on his mother's side."
She studied the female some more, tilting her head.
"Who are you...?"

Mioyo blinked slowly.
Very few knew there had been bloodshed-- in fact, only.... The female hesitated, her aggression lost as she moved towards the female slowly, then hesitated at the question.
"My name is Mioyo. I too, have come to mourn my child, and my friend."

Kabichi suddenly felt her eyes go wide, and she stood on her hind legs to get a better view.
No...
It couldn't be...
"M...Mother....?"

Mioyo blinked, but by now got a good look at the smaller female. A smile spread on her face, and she approached, as slowly and gracefully as Kabichi remembered, and nuzzled her daughter lovingly.
"I counted you amongst the dead, my daughter...."

Kabichi rumbled, rubbing her mother lovingly a minute before nosing Melhor out. The cub took little prompting, approaching and looking up with wide blue eyes to the smiling face.
"Melhor, meet your grandmother... Mioyo."
