I've had an assortment of colors of goldfish but three of them were orange with varying amounts of black on the face and dorsal fin.
later, they had even less black on them. I thought that it was bleaching from being unhappy in thier new habitat, but turns out that they weren't losing color they were gaining orange eek

This tends to happen as fish grow older, especially in their their early years. I don't know how long this goes on, but I still discover new spots of yellow and orange on my two year old ish Sarasas. So it's nothing to worry about biggrin

The black color sometimes come in and out with age. But careful and watch them. They might be sick. Its called I think "black smudge"

If they lost black, it could have been healing ammonia burns (which turn black and then go away.

Well, I hve a couple of goldfish that used to have black/brown markings on them and their color changed to orange. They don't appear sick, so I'm guessg it's safe.

That happens a lot with goldfish as they grow up. Sometimes they will even turn from entirely black or gray to all orange.
