You know, I'm glad the Wii is doing well and is bringing more people into the video gaming experiance, but I have one question:
Isn't it true that the main reason why there is a shortage of Wiis isn't because the demand is so big, but that they just are being idiots and aren't prouding half the amount of Wiis that they should be?

Exactly.
Nintendo will make 100 Wiis and ship them to 90 stores. I love how Tango posts article about this... how Wii is so "in demand" and how it's "God's gift to the gaming world" and fails to realize the same s**t happens to Sony and Microsoft...only not anymore, because, you know, they can supply the fans with enough consoles.
This shortage isn't something to be proud of.

This shortage isn't something to be proud of. I was really hoping you guys would notice this. Quote: For one brief moment recently, Nintendo sported an even larger market capitalization than Sony, quite an achievement when you weigh Sony's varied assets against Nintendo's mere video game properties. Also, [sort of off-topic] I'd look at this if I were you[/sort of off-topic]

My thing is that I'm still irritated at how they're producing and shipping their Wiis. I love the product, just a lil tweeked at the maker. EDIT: Seriously! If they're loosing money, why aren't they making more?!

The console IS in demand.
If it wasn't, Tango wouldn't be here posting this, now would he, because nobody would want to report on a console the is out of stock, yet no one wants it anyways. Which is also impossible, because if no one wanted it, it would be on shelfs, and everyone would be reporting on how much the Wii is a failure.

If they're loosing money, why aren't they making more?! That's the thing. They aren't doing well because of the shortage, but they are. They are in the sense that they sell 100% of what's on shelves, but not in the sense that they could be making more from software if they had stuff to sale. Also, as it says here, Nintendo makes sure that it "fully controls their products internally" even though they don't actually make the parts. They put it together, and they're very picky about where they get their stuff. It's must be hard to find suppliers, I'm guessing

Eh, It's just one of my favorite words. Just felt like pointing that out for some reason.
Oh well, back on topic, if one was to say the Wii isn't in demand, that would be bypassing the laws of common business. And the theory of consumers.

Ace, the shortage is definitely something to be proud of. A shortage of Wii consoles just goes to show that it can't be kept on shelves because it's in such high demand. Were it not in high demand, you'd see it lining shelves, like Daxel said. I figure after their failures of the last two generations, the big N can't afford to replace every Wii sold instantly like magic. They don't have the assets or resources, or CASH. While the Wii is still making them a gigantic profit...I doubt it's enough, resulting in the shortage.
But still. The fact that there is a shortage just shows that Nintendo can't keep up with the massive amounts of demand. If they have demand this huge, Nintendo has bragging rights.

This shortage isn't something to be proud of. FALSE Maybe I'm just picking a fight, but Wiis have been SELLING OUT since last November. They're in short supply because they're selling within a few hours. I've been asked hundreds times if a customer can reserve a Wii, but if we could reserve any amount, we would have a list of AT LEAST 200. No joke. Speaking of profits, Nintendo would want to sell as many as they could right now, because most people are EXPECTING a price drop eventually, meaning that a lot of the people left out in the cold now will be paying LESS for their Wii in a year or two. It won't really matter about selling Wiis once most people have one. Nintendo products almost never break, either.
