I had a great time. At my school they aren't mean to the freshman, but they don't let them do anything. Freshman can't be on the drumline scream or do halftime. rolleyes

We have an 8th grader on the drum line this year. And at our school everyone was friendly to the freshmen. It's really a big family so if anyone is mean to you it's just like sibling rivalry almost. lol. But it's super duper fun you'll love it!

We've won an unbeleivable amount of medals. King Philip Regional High School. This year we were 2nd in BOA Nationals

Marching band's AMAZING. It's been the best experience of my life. No matter how good you are or whatever, being with your section that much...you really feel like part of a family, in the band and especially in your section. It makes the transition to High School a lot easier, too, because you know all the upper classmen band kids have your back. No one messes with band kids, lol. Really, marching is amazing and I hope you enjoy it!

It's sooo much fun, brings enough challenging, and it gets you pumped for more each time your done marching a show! It may seem hard at first but you'll get the swing of it! In my school, the gone to state football team [ 4A - freshman, for some reason we start high school sophmore year ] and the cheerleaders may be the face of the clock, but the band is the gears. We have band members in the orchestra, choir, student council, and on the football team. Our band is crazy and we have waaay to much fun. Also, seeing as our band is so small [ 1A ] we rejoice for freshman. Just work hard and have fun. Don't think to much into how bad it's going to be. cause it's not.

In my band we have 7th graders... we're nice to ANYONE who wants to be in band, because we don't have many members (this year was the biggest our marching band has been in the 4 years I've been there, and it's only 35ish, including guard)

There's drama, and a lot of perverted-ness, and a lot of good times.

Marching season is easily my favorite. (probably because when it's over I have to put my flags away and get out my flute cry )

I was a freshman this year. Don't be worried it was amazing. All of the friends i've made are at least a year older than me! It's fun you'll love it.

I'm not going to sugarcoat it: Marching band can be awful at times. There's lots of frustration, hurt feelings, drama, etc. Then again, that goes for ANY large group of people.
Yes, there ARE going to be people who yell at you, say you're stupid, or that you don't know what you're doing because you're a "stupid freshie", etc.
You're most likely going to cry, want to quit, or even want to quit band all together.

HOWEVER...

Marching band has been one the best experiences of my life. You instantly know lots of people, and the marchers become your second family. (In my case, I have 200-ish siblings. ^-^) I've met some great new friends, some of which are older than I am. xD With all the drama and annoyance, there's also lots of laughs and great times. DEFINITELY go for it and stick with it. I survived my first marching season, and I wouldn't trade it for the world. =]

Lmao. Our cheerleaders don't do anything. It's the band that our school loves, and WE get the crowd fired up. x]

I BEG to differ. I'm a fish this year, and I've only had 1 or 2 mess ups. Not all fish are horrible at marching.
