We were given our music a week before the musical starts. We still have 15 songs to learn/play perfectly by tomorrow. We all hate our director. Comments?

That's intense I can't see my director ever doing that. The worst we ever got was 2 pieces 2 days before the X-mas concert for the yearly merge between the senior and junior bands but the pieces were level 1 and 2

I know this is a slightly old thread, but I have to give in my two cents about musicals and the distribution of sheet music.
Musicals. What an adventure.
From my experience, everything involving a musical is on a tight timeline. Chances are that they gave you that music the same day the directors got them. Talk to the actors too. They probably didn't get their script until you got your pit parts.
See, usually musical materials have to be ordered for a limited period of time. Even then, they're only on loan, so a couple days after the musical ends, they have to mail everything back in the same or better condition than what they were received.
Now, there have been times in my Conservatory Symphony where my director handed out sheet music the day before a major performance, and we scratched our heads a little when that happened. It turned out that the material was super easy compared to our regular performance level, and all we needed was one night to look over our parts to be able to put it together. Hell, there was one time we sightread the music the day before, and he collected the parts back up for the night. The performance went well.

Well, if they just got the parts, then I guess it can't be avoided. But if they've had the parts for a while, then I definatly have to say that is messed up. Either way, I don't know how you could possibly learn all that music in a week. eek
