I was just thinking, it might be too late to do this this year, but maybe we could do a sort of secret santa gift exchange for guild members, and a sort of donation drive.
For the first idea, maybe someone (Shanra? I'd volunteer to do it, myself) could pair people up. Each person would get a name and a link to their chosen's profile, but they wouldn't know who got THEM. You would then buy a gift for them (probably off their wishlist so you KNOW they'll like it), perhaps with a limit so no one feels jealous that they got a 500G item while someone else in the guild got a 1 millG item, and then on Christmas Eve everyone would send their gift to their chosen. We could make a forum post dedicated to merely pointing out that you got their gift (so we'd know who did and who didn't), and people who would be left out (life gets in the way sometimes, and in a bigger group like this, someone's most likely going to be left out, accidental, but still) would be listed up and 'adopted' by other members to send them gifts until the person who was supposed to get them something in the first place coughs it up. People who don't give their gifts shouldn't be allowed to participate in any other gift-giving events until they do, I don't think, as otherwise they're getting free gifts and hurting someone's feelings by not giving anything back. Thoughts on this idea?
As for the second idea, maybe we could have someone (again, Shanra? Someone particularly trustworthy for this one. I'd volunteer again, but I'm new here, so I wouldn't expect anyone to trust me that way) hold onto donation money. Everyone would donate what they wanted to them for a whole month, and then we could all pick out a few people we feel deserves it from the forums and use those donations to buy a few things off of their wishlists for them. I haven't expanded on this idea too much, but I think it'd be fun to gather around and comb the forums in search of nice people who deserve gifts and are too poor to get all the stuff they want. This idea isn't to donate to guild members, by the way, it would be to donate to other forums, like the GCD or helpful people on Questions and Assistance, etc. It would be for other people, not for guild members, but BY guild members.
What do you lot think?
PS. For the second idea, it might be easier to just create a brand new alt strictly for holding donation money and buying/sending the gifts through it. I would be willing to make it, but with Shanra being the leader here, I figure people would be more willing to trust it if she were in control.
