My mom want's a CD. a Mixed CD.
I want something very similar to Evanescence, Within Temptation, Flyleaf, Massive attack, you get the point. Something with awesome vocals and maybe a rock twist but preferably some awesome instrumentals (she likes orchestral stuff too which you kinda get in WT)

♥Life's tough. I have some songs you would definetly want to check out. They're from Silent Hill, but they're still really good none-the-less. Hometown - Joe Romersa. Cradle of Forest - Joe Romersa. You're Not Here - Mary Elizabeth McGlynn. I Want Love (Studio Mix) - Mary Elizabeth McGlynn. Definetly make sure the is the *studio mix*. The other version is... gonk . Check them out before you add them to the CD, though. It might not be what you're looking for, exactly. Get a helmet.♥

Well, does your mom like older stuff? 'Cuz I was thinking you could do like Fleetwood Mac or Heart. Both were 60's-70's rock bands with female lead singers.
Hope it helps heart

Check out anything by Ingrid Michaelson because she is awesome. surprised Some really good ones are "Breakable", "The Way I Am", "The Hat" and "Die Alone".
I don't know if you like Muse or not. They're amazing. However it's quite a mix of electronica, alt. rock, progressive and heavy. xD
OMG. Something old school. I LOVE this song. Instrumentals are freaking awesome. Yellowcard's "Gifts and Curses".
Some odd choices of mine, I'm surprised I like. I really love acoustics, so maybe not that big of a surprise.
"Overkill" by Colin Hay. I don't know if this is too..."old" but I think "Good Life" by Francis Dunnery has a tendency to grow on people. Not like mold. x] Like pretty flowers.

You had at me at Hello. The Cardigans. Gregory and The Hawk. Kenotia (might be a little too hard? Not sure.) Michelle Branch's (later stuff, it's a bit harder.) Would it be okay, would it be okay if I took your breath away?

Rivei All I can think of is NightWish. Very guitar-solo rock, but the singer is rather operatic/dramatic.

Their newer stuff with a new singer has an odd pop-ier feel to it. I know its a random suggestion...so whee. I need more sleep.
edit: Tarja Turunen is the ex-singer...she went solo. Her solo stuff is a bit less guitar metal, but still has an attitude. Yeah, I love nightwish, and that and Epica was what I was going to suggest. Nightwish's new stuff is pretty awesome, there's a fourteen minute song I'm obsessed with, Poet and the Pendulum. Epica has some orchestral stuff in their music, and then there's Therion I just started listening to. http://radioblogclub.com/open/127196/eye_of_shiva/Therion - Eye Of Shiva Here's a bunch of their songs, my favorites are Deggial, and Rise of Sodom and Gomorrah. Basically, its orchestral/choral/metalish. I really like it. Also, Pandora.com is great when it comes to finding music similar to artists you like. So, try listening to that by picking out an artist and see what you come up with.

I don't know if it's what you're looking for, but...
~White Houses by Vanessa Carlton ~Thousand Miles by Vanessa Carlton ~1234 by Feist ('twas on the iPod commercial) ~When We Were Young by The Killers ~Remind Me by Royksopp ('twas on Geico commercial) ~Lay Down by Priestess (has a little bit of a heavy meal taste...>.>)
That's all I can think of for now...I'm sure I'll come up with more.
Oh, and alot of DDR songs are pretty awesome, too. c:
