I know this is random and off topic but it's still kindof on topic so here it is. Enjoy! mrgreen
I'll sticky it once it gets notice. I figured this'll be something fresh to discuss.

West Side Story with handhelds anyone? I know that my DS and my PSP frequently break out in song and knife fight.

Sometimes, when I'm using the GTS, my DS also sends lazers to destroy PSPs. It looks like Independance day. I hope you all remember that Pokemon commercial.

Oh, man. I could argue this for days. DS pwns the PSP. Call me a fanboy.
DS has a much wider and better library.
DS' touch screen, microphone, and dual screens are actually changing the way we play games. PSP is just meant to be a power system you can hold in your hands. For that, I could play a console.
DS is backwards compatible with one of the best handhelds ever, GBA. Due to the usage of the UMD format, PSP is not backwards compatible.
DS has the download play function, so people who don't have your game can still have fun on a game. PSP has nothing of the sort.
Pictochat is a lot of fun to do with friends.
Almost all of PSP's non-gaming functions can be found on other electronics and can be used on home consoles as well. DS' functions are unique.

Almost all of PSP's non-gaming functions can be found on other electronics and can be used on home consoles as well. DS' functions are unique. On a handheld gaming platform you could say the DS functions are unique. However there are so many touch screen handheld devices out there. PDAs being the most notable, phones also including such things.
While reviews mean nothing really, PSP has the higher average of "good" games which unfortunately stems from classics or console style games like MPO.
I'll agree with touch screen, however improperly used it is by a majority of games, along with dual screens, even if Nintendo had already done it with game and watch (plus for some games it becomes more of a distraction and liability than anything else) but the microphone really hasn't done anything that hasn't been done before.
However, there are a bunch of things that the PSP can do that DS can't with out the use of slot loaders and pirate devices. I mean hell, the novelty of playing the original FFT before they put out FFTWotL is pretty amusing.
Technically in the grand scheme of the tech industry the DS is not unique. A majority of it's users don't play "game" games and instead use it for day to day applications. Of which many also use mobile phones for, PDAs, iPhone, etc. etc.
There are pros and cons to what you listed, such as the touch screen and dual screen. You're also wrong about download play since PSP has a share game function over wifi.

Almost all of PSP's non-gaming functions can be found on other electronics and can be used on home consoles as well. DS' functions are unique. I still say, that if only one console uses the functions, nothing has been changed yet, so the touch screen and mic use may be unique, but the game hasn't changed yet. As for the library, I still find more games that apply to my interests on my PSP rather than my DS, which I mainly play in order to get a Pokemon Fix. The PSP has some wonderful titles like Killzone Liberation, MGS Portable Ops and Portable Ops Plus, Silent Hill Origins, Loco Roco and such. But that's just me. Tell me, what does the PSP have to be backwards compatible with? It's the first Sony handheld, it's not like there's anything before it so this point is moot. The download Play function is neat and all, but speaking of downloads... I just got Wildarms for my PS3/PSP... That is pretty sweet. Maybe if I had offline friends that were still in my immediate state and with a DS, I could use the pictochat, but no, it's a wasted function for me. Sure, the PSP's functions are also on other electronics, but that's just it, they are all over the place. I kinda like having them all in one spot. Also, the PSP has the Remote Play function with the PS3, that is something the DS doesn't have, and cannot have. Also, the PSP's Themes and Wallpapers are fully customizable, also something that the DS isn't able to do, and having the web browser is sweet as well, sure the DS can be a web browser, bit it's nothing to wet your pants over. The PSP's browser is solid and easy to use. Too bad we ain't in Japan either, there have been reports of the PSP getting TV Tuner capabilities over there, also something the DS can't do. In the end, I find it foolish to say that one "pwns" the other. Gamers are diverse, and since that is the case, gamers will be drawn to these for different reasons. Personally I like being able to do almost anything with my PSP, and my DS collects dust (it's okay, it's white, you can't tell), and I'm sure it's the other way around for others here.

PSP owns as a emulator and having a mini PC. It works in that way plus movies and even TV. However the games..are, eh at best. Too may ports, and plus some of the best games are two Megaman re-makes. MPO is a good game, but I liked Metal Gear Acid 2. The way that the PSP, with similar the ideas with the PSN is just really weird. The interface works but it is so odd and confusing.
The DS is really for games, hardcore, simple games, mini and even games for non-gamers. The only reason I would the pick the DS is because I can play GBA games for ages which pwns. Plus the DS doesn't have so many damn ports, only some ports.
Although being said GBA SP still pwns both.

X-Legends-Never-Die-X DS has a much wider and better library. Wider...but I wouldn't say better since that is subjective to opinion which everyone has different of. To me, overall the PSP library appeals to me...but there are quite a bit of DS games I mooch off my brother for whee Quote: DS is backwards compatible with one of the best handhelds ever, GBA. Due to the usage of the UMD format, PSP is not backwards compatible. Uh....what does the PSP have to be backwards compatible with...? An invisible Pre-PSP? Quote: DS has the download play function, so people who don't have your game can still have fun on a game. PSP has nothing of the sort. ....Game Sharing?.... Quote: Pictochat is a lot of fun to do with friends. I love Pictochat! So fun mrgreen Quote: Almost all of PSP's non-gaming functions can be found on other electronics and can be used on home consoles as well. DS' functions are unique. Though the non-gaming functions can be useful when you want a all-in one thing....I'd still prefer the Zune though.

I don't have much interest in a PSP due to lack of interesting games, but also a huge interest in DS, Wii, and 360 games. Hard to budget a PSP with so much else to buy...
