I am truly disappointed with the english airing of Death Note on Adult Swim... The voices for the characters don't even begin to come close to their japanese counterparts and they don't even seem to fit... x| I mean Light sounds like a wimp and although I wouldn't say that he's captain awesome but it just seems like he should sound a bit more sadistic... Ryuk sounds like a ******** hick and in his translation has lost one of his creepiest factors. Some anime is just better left alone and just subbed instead of fully translated into english... And due to the anime airing everyone and their ******** mother is in love with the series I mean when it came out in english or even before that it was just a few truly and deeply devoted fans... Now I can't go on an anime forum without hearing something about Death Note. I will never stop being a fan but enough is enough it's annoying and depressing that I can't even go to an anime convention or anything of the sorts without seeing some poorly cosplayed Light, L, Ryuk, Misa, or any other character for that matter... I will never stop being a fan but at some point these bandwagon fans need to learn their place and shut the hell up... x.x

What's wrong with a few more fans? As long as the viewer/reader likes it, they shouldn't be criticized about their "devotion." As you said, die-hard fans won't stop liking what they like because of others in their fandom so don't make a big deal about it. Let it go.
Some people just don't like reading, period. A friend of mine won't read anything if he can avoid it, but that doesn't mean he dislikes Death Note. He enjoys watching the anime and there's nothing wrong with that. I'm glad I can discuss it with him.
Again, relax. What does it matter to you why others like the same fandom you do? Everyone has reasons for their likes or dislikes but you really shouldn't take it so personally.

I never liked VIZ anyways, though.
And I'm afraid Death Note will be the next InuYasha... You know, with the millions of mindless fangirls yelling "OMG!!1 LIGHT!! heart heart heart "

hn...i really like Light's voice...but his is the only one i really like...and the DeathNote Japanese anime wasnt very good...i mean, in episode 25, with the ******** FOOT MASSAGE?! and the end SUCKED!!!! the manga is way better...but i wont critisize the people who love the dubbed version, because they havent TOTALLY screwed it up yet...

I do agree that they could of tried a little harder for the english voices, but if someone chooses to be a fan of Death Note or do some cosplay from it thats really there choice and not yours.

Personally, i love the english voices. I became a fan when the first manga came out! My brother's best friend let him borrow it, and now I'm hooked. I'm Very worried about poser fans though, so i have to agree.
But don't hate little fan girls that squeal, "LIGHT LIGHT LIGHT"

I personally like Death Note's dubbing, it's probably one of the many few that Viz actually did a good job on.
As far as obnoxious fans go, yeah, we could do with a little less of them, but there are some fans out there who watched DN when it first aired and didn't transform into the "OMG I <3 ___" type of fangirl. They have legitimate reasons for being a fan.
That's all just my opinion anyway. =/

I've been a fan since Shonen Jump first translated the first chapter of Death Note. It was before the anime came out and everything. I personally don't really mind them translating the anime. I must say it would bug me though if the translation attracted a whole bunch of 11 year olds, but then again this is Death Note.
And about how bad the dubbing is: I wouldn't know, I never watching the dubs.

Death Note is still of my favorite manga's, but since the ENG airing, I have been fading away from it. Death Note was better when it was an underground manga. NOw everywhere I go, I here. "OMG! Light will defeat L with his powers of awesome." When everyone who has read the manga understands how much thinking is in it. And it isn't 'powers of awesome." I hate how VIZ ruined a great thing.

do u expect them to air the japanese version on Adult swim rolleyes I mean come that does not make any sense. So in conclusion i do think it is a good thing they aired the english version on adult swim. though i do opposed the voice acting. It makes the anime look childish

I actually enjoy the japanese and the english versions. It's both very different cultures and languages so to interpret that to follow the story line but make it so we're not all like "What's with the engrish? D:" or something of the sort I think they did a very good job.
There are some moments where I twitch and sometimes even cringe but I really do enjoy the english.
That being said I understand why anyone would get upset about the new fans. That's why I'm selective about who I talk to about my fandom. And I NEVER enter the AMC.
I doubt it will become the new Inuyasha, but nonetheless there will be a lot of fans who won't be able to fully comprehend the story or emotions played out. There's way too many people who watch the show and see it as black and white, rather than an abundant shades of grey.
So my points is I can't agree with you too much on the dubbing but everyone has their likes or dislikes and you gave some pretty good valid points but as for the new wave of fans... well just be picky about who you talk about Death Note with, that's all I have to say. Dx
I remember last year in Sakura Con there were hardly ANY Death Note cosplayers, that or it was so bad an ordinary that it blended into the crowd. Ugh... I don't want to think about what is to come this year. D':
