The dark lioness sat watching the sunrise, wondering... How had she gotten there? She didn't remember leaving the path she'd been on... And now she was near the border of the Pridelands. She looked around, pausing to scratch at the tracking collar on her neck. Bothersome thing... Where was her necklace...? She must have lost it passing the Mountain... And speaking of lost things... Where had her children gotten to? She couldn't see Sairin, Tota'keke, or Ihlosenka anywhere. Had a hyena gotten them? She feared that one had. A sigh escaped as the lioness lay down, continuing to watch the sunrise.

Toshiro shook out his tangled filthy mane, glaring at nothing in particular as he walked. He'd left the lioness be, not bothering to actually do anything to her. He'd merely wanted to chase, he had realised. He had no will to actually procreate. He wondered just how she was doing, the lioness he'd not bothered to fool or trick into bearing his cubs. Somehow, he couldn't bring himself to do that. Why, though? Why hadn't he tried anything? Because... Because he didn't want to be like Nyekundu. He didn't want to have a bad name everywhere he went. He wasn't like that... Was he? A heavy sigh escaped the male as he looked up, watching the sunrise. A lone lion sat in the distance, watching as well. Two lions, one sunrise... As he started to pass, he spared a glance. That pattern... The streak, the ears, the mask, the stripes... He knew those patterns, on that dark coat, the shades of silver and gray... It was his mother, Ishara.

When the sun had rissen, the lioness got up and turned. She had to find... What did she have to find, again? She couldn't remember. Memory was escaping her, and a small part of her scattered mind worried about this. But the part she paid any attention to... It didn't even think about the scattered memories. Green eyes looked about, spying a familiar coat pattern. Why was it familiar...? She moved closer, smiling brightly. "Hi, have we met before?"

He looked at her strangely, approaching slowly. "Yes... We've met... You're my mother..." She didn't remember him? Just how hard had he hit her last time they'd met? But then... She might not remember his actions, attacking her... This couldn't be an entirely BAD thing. He'd realised something, since his younger brother had beaten him up. He'd become a monster, a real animal. Maybe... Maybe this was his chance to turn his life around, re-bond with his mother. Could he bond with his brother, though?

The lioness looked the male over before recognition dawned in her eyes. "Toshiro! My little prince..." She went over, butting her head against his shoulder. A happy purr rumbled in her chest, signifying her pleasure to see one of her children. Indeed, she didn't remember him ever attacking her. She didn't even remember him as anything more than a bubbly happy cub who liked to lick beetles. An ear flicked as she groomed his ears, trying to get at the tangled mane.

The male sat there, allowing himself to be groomed. It was... Comforting. He sat down, eyes closed, as his mother groomed him, feeling again like a cub. As he lay down, he glanced at his mother. "Mother..." He shuddered a bit, feeling a wave of emotions. "I've... I've been an animal... A real monster..." He shifted, burrying his face against her. "Please... Forgive me..."

She looked at her son, ears perking. "No matter what you do... I will always forgive you." She licked his forhead, purring at him. "I'm your mother... Mothers always forgive their children, because they love them." She put a paw around his neck and mane, giving him a hug. "And you are my child, therefore I will always love you, and always forgive you."

His heart swelled a bit, before the grown male broke down and wept. He'd wronged her, he'd attacked his own mother, and she forgave him. As the grooming comforted him, Toshiro let out all of his anger and frustrations in life through his weeping. Though it was morning, he fell asleep. He was safe here, with his mother, and he wouldn't hurt her again.

Purring, the lioness gave her eldest son's gray ear a lick. Her son, her child, eternally one of her baby boys. She looked back out over the horizon, enjoying the peace of the morning. She did not, could not, hunt with her physical body, but watching the prey, she hunted with her heart and mind. She shifted, laying down against her smallest son. With a content sigh, Ishara went back to sleep.
