It had been a while since Kivumbi'wingu had gotten out for some fresh air. Sure, the Graveyards were great (as far as Kivu was concerned, there just wasn't anything like rolling in dead remains on a shady afternoon), but every once in a while the hyena had felt something else calling him. Perhaps it was his own rogue instincts, although it could have just been a peculiar scent on the wind that had led him past the borders of the pack and into the savannah. Another thought stirred in his mind - yes, perhaps it was to escape from the judgemental eyes of his packmates. Being only new to the Graveyard pack, Kivu still did not feel entirely comfortable there.
Which was why he felt so free out here.
Still, it mattered not. Kivu wasn't concerned much about the whole deal. Surely it wasn't a sin to go... well, 'exploring' every once and a while. If he could take a Maziko lion down while he was out here, that would seal the whole deal. Now, wouldn't that make a good day? Give him an excuse to attack something, and make that leader-lady Mafa happy at the same time.
"There's gotta' be at least something here I can rip my fangs into," he sighed, blowing a strand of flaxen hair and wiping his mane out of his eyes with a forepaw, "Surely I can get a bite of something out here. It's the wide world after all."

Well, wasn't the weather just beautiful? The sun was out, partially cloudy, shadows dancing across the wide savannah. A light breeze kept everything temperate, and rustled Barafukavu's pale blue mane. Presently he was sprawled across a flat rock in the middle of a small clearing, sunning himself. He was having one of those lazy days where he didn't feel much like moving; this was unfortunate, considering how hungry he was. He figured that when he got hungry enough, he would actually get up... but for now, he was content just warming himself here.
Distantly, he heard a rustle, and this caught his curiosity. It encouraged him to finally sit up at any rate. He directed his attention to the sound of the noise. A young gazelle, perhaps? Then he heard a voice, and scented the approacher on the breeze. No... hyena. Definately a hyena. Kavu rolled his eyes. Typical. He wasn't really in the mood for this right now.
And yet...
Maybe, just maybe, this fellow could be of some use to him. So, straightening out his fur quickly, Kavu called out, "Hello there! Can I help you with something?"

At the sudden sound of a voice, Kivu jolted back in alarmed surprise, and spun around to meet the eyes of his potential assailant. Sure enough, he found a pair of pale baby-blue eyes staring right back at him. At first, the flecked hyena found himself rather on edge - of course, as far as Kivu was concerned, another hyena usually meant another packmate - until he realised that this stranger was lacking the distinct Graveyard Pack scent. Yes, now that he looked closely, he'd never seen this hyena ever before in his life.
At once, perhaps foolishly, Kivu allowed himself to relax.
"...Can I help you with something?"
The Graveyard hyena chewed on his top lip and paused for thought. The light-pelted stranger's tone was friendly, but could he really be trusted? Kivu hadn't come across many strangers before... and anyway, he didn't like idle chatter. Kivu wasn't so good on the social scene. While he was skilled on the battlefront, social confrontations with other males generally irked him, so he always tried to avoid them.
"Ah, well, help? Not really," he drew back a little, but decided (as an afterthought) to stand his ground - he'd look stronger that way, "Ah... unless... well... lions?"
He sniffed in the stranger's scent suspiciously, and then padded a little closer as a newfound curiousity seized him. Besides, the other hyena didn't seem to present any threat. Right?
"I mean... per'aps you've seen some lions about?" he tilted his head to think (and that took brainpower, which he didn't like), "I'm on a bit of a mission here. And who're you anyway?" he added, raising an eyebrow.
Something was up, something was iffy here. But he didn't know what.

Kavu watched the stranger with some amusement as he jumped and skittered and fumbled over his words. He was nervous, awkward, shifty... like he had some gears loose. The pale hyena was entertained by the strange behavior, but managed to supress his smirk. No need to make the fellow feel insulted... he might attack, or leave, and then he wouldn't do him any good at all. So Kavu continued to sit still, tail lashing patienly, as Kivu studied him and scented him, allowing the fellow to get comfortable.
"Lions? Not that I've seen lately," Kavu said. "I've been traveling alone for quite some time, and I swear I haven't so much as smelled one today." He shrugged a bit. "Kind of odd, especially considering I just crossed through the Pridelands... but I don't question it. Any day without a sight of those big brutes is a good day for me. Am I right?"
He let out a good natured chuckle, then bowed his head low. "My name is Barafukavu, pleased to make your acquaintance." Upon rising, he added, "You may feel free to call me Kavu or Rafa or anything you can think of."
A mission, huh? Well this could prove interesting indeed. "A mission? You don't say! Would you mind telling me what sort of mission it is you're on, friend?" A well placed smile. "Not that you're obligated to share in any way, I'm merely curious."

Kivu's brow furrowed. This stranger, 'Barafukavu' as he called himself, seemed to have a natural way with words. They flowed off his tongue oozing such flair that it made Kivu all the more uncomfortable, though he stood his ground as a good hyena should.
"No lions, huh?" he replied, a little dejectedly, "I see. Well, nevermind then. Pity, that, though I can't say I was particually looking forward to finding one."
He said something else, though his speech seemed to slur into an unenthusiastic, undecipherable murmer. Thoughts of the fellows back at the Graveyard Pack kept rushing back into his mind, and Kivu didn't like it at all - in any case, Kavu wasn't exactly helping. Talking to male hyenas was such a chore sometimes.
"Oh, well, Kivu," he offered his name bluntly in, by comparisson, what was a rather plain introduction. It notably lacked the spice of Kavu's own finely crafted words, "Yeah, pleasure."
He lied through his teeth of course, and didn't look in the least enthusiastic, though he sniffed slightly in good humour at how close their namesakes were, and made the effort to stay and hear Kavu out. Kavu was smiling, chuckling, so Kivu supposed he couldn't be all bad news. Perhaps he, himself, would loosen up after a good natter. He did need a few more friends - after all, friends were a form of status, weren't they?
" Would you mind telling me what sort of mission it is you're on, friend?"
The light blue hyena seemed to light up with interest, although genuine or not, Kivumbi still couldn't tell. He could not read people well.
Wait. Kavu had mentioned 'friend', hadn't he?
'But we've only bliddy known eachother for a few minutes,' Kivu thought, thinking the whole deal was a little odd. He shook it off - perhaps, Kivu thought smugly, Kavu simply had realised how a handsome, likeable character he was. Perhaps building a friendship would be easy.
"Not that you're obligated to share in any way..."
"Oh, hey, it's fine."
Kivu's 'news' was nothing special (bland, really), but it was something to say, and something to take the awkwardness away.
"You're interested in hearing me out then, Kavu?" he asked, managing a small grin of his own, "Well, you know, they say those that listen to other people are good men. Hopefully, you're one o' them real good people."
He paused to think for a moment, then shrugged. There was no harm in talking to Kavu. After all, his mission wasn't terribly important.
"I'm getting some fresh air, so Mafa hasn't given me any direct orders herself," he mentioned the Graveyard Pack leader casually, assuming Kavu understood (in any case, he was much too lazy to explain himself), "But I've taken it upon myself to look for lions. Do some cleansing, you know? Despicable beasts. I'll rip out their throats!"
He spat at the ground, and opened his mouth to express his hate further when his stomach gave a rather noisy growl. He clamped his mouth shut and grinned in amusement.
"Though, perhaps lunch would be equally as satisfying. Say, Mr Kavu, would ya' know where to find some grub?"
( Red, I'll be off holidaying for two weeks from tomorrow... but I'll be back to reply as soon as I get back. xD Sorry about how slow I am lately! Have a really good holiday yourself! >w< )

((Sorry this took so long! D: ))
Kavu sat and lashed his well-groomed, long-haired tail, listening intently and bright-faced to his apparently dull-witted new company. Kivu seemed... edgy. And defensive. However, Kavu found this to be a trait common to many fellow members of his species. It was a shame, he thought, that they were all such a bunch of savages.
All the same, he grinned when a name was offered back, despite how heavily it was spat and how displeased Kivu looked. Gaining someone's name alone can gain one a lot of power over them, Kavu found. It immediately put you on a level of identification with your opposite individual, and gave you the power to connect more closely to them, and steer their attention.
"Of course I'm interested," Kavu said, and added with a chuckle, "And, well, I try my hardest to be good. I suppose that's up to you to judge." But Barafukavu already knew that he was good. He also already knew that this Kivu was bad, and that it therefore didn't matter much how he treated him, because the bad and useless didn't deserve kindness.
He could, however, manage false kindness for him, for the sake of his own amusement and a vague curiosity on what this hyena was all about. So Kavu listened. He furrowed his brow a bit at the mention of Mafa. The name was vaguely familiar to him, but he couldn't quite recall where he'd heard it. "This Mafa... she's your leader, yes?" he queried. "Why do you take orders from her if you find her so distasteful." He cocked his head to the side in genuine curiosity. He did often wonder what drove so many of his peers to pack mentality. Survival instinct, he supposed... but he could never stand for being bossed around like the lot of them were.
Ah! Lunch. Now there was a sound idea. Kavu nodded eagerly. "That, Kivu, I couldn't agree more with. Let us track down something to eat." He smirked darkly. "And then, perhaps afterwards, a lion hunt if we so please."
He turned his nose to the air and scented the wind. For a moment, nothing. And then the breeze changed direction. Kavu pointed to the north. "I think I smell some fairly fresh carrion that way." And he then followed his nose, quite literally, at a steady trot.
