The petite female listened to the wind with a smile upon her face. She ran with it, her eyes narrowed into a determined grinned as she through her small neck back jumping over hallowed logs and rocks in her way. Her little chest heaved as she flung soft snow behind her. She whickered happily as she lept over a creek just her size.

Truth be told, she didn't know where she was going but she always got back before daddy or mommy worried. She was living in the riches around her. The earth was hers to roam and that was her own freedom that she knew. She would live her life, living. Not mourning or worrying of small necessities that she didn't need. She had everything. She had the rain, the snow, the sun and the dirt. The sky, grasses, all of the rocks and smallest flowers. What more could a girl ask for?

Thistle didn't really like this time of year. Well, this was his first winter... and the small flutter determined he didn't like it! First the cold came, and then his precious flowers slowly died. Not to mention the butterflies and BEES! His buddies were gone, and he'd have to make new friends.

Well, no time like now!

A creature of black and white 'flew' by. Thistle turned towards it, and saw a filly running. Hey, LIFE!

The flutter zoomed in her direction. He did have to be careful, the cold air made his poor wings sore and more fragile than usual. Ugh.....

"Hey you!" He finally called out, short of breath, "Wait up for meee!"

The girl trailed around finding that the creek led to a river! A river!! She ran until she came to the bend and came to a stop. Her tail flickered anxiously, she wanted to know what came after. She blinked hearing another's voice. Her brows rurrowed seeing a purple thing coming after her. She reared, kicking her front legs and with a knicker she flew off to see what was around the corner....she skidded to another stop to look out over the edge...and by edge...it was a cliff. The water fell down so far that she couldn't make the details out.

She smiled content, she could see the mountains and forrest in the distance. Her tail waved, wildly as her multi-colored orbs watched in wonder. She turned her head to see where slow poke was.

Thistle sighed when the young one reared and ran more. This was getting to be a workout, and he wasn't sure he was in the physical shape to keep this going. Thankfully, she stopped, though where sort of worried him.

The stallion flew forward and past, only to hover in front of the filly. "No, no, no! Don't jump! The weather isn't..... THAT bad....! It'll warm up!"

Of course, at that moment, Thistle wasn't sure if it would ever get warmer, but surely it wasn't enough to kill one's self over! And... she didn't have wings to keep her from crashing down the cliff if she chose to take the leap.

"Kill myself?" she questioned. "I just came out of my basket a few days ago, why would I want to kill myself?" she tilted her head at the stallion. What an odd one. He had weird wings too. She wondered what he was. There weren't much like her any more. Just regular color soquili, they were multi-colored of assorted rainbows it seemed. It was quite amusing to see.

She trotted so he was out of her view and she just simply stared. "It's beautiful, isn't it?" she asked. The snow blanketed the ground and icicles formed at ever tree but still the waters kept moving. Some saw the earth as dead land, but she saw it as a living thing. Every rock, every blade of grass had a name to her, a spirit.

She blinked before she stood in peace, and in silence. Though she knew the other would speak soon. The breeze lifted around her causing small snow tornadoes to build up around her and she beamed mildly. She looked back to the stallion with her emerald and golden orbs. "What's yer name?"

She moved over, and content in knowing she wasn't about to take the leap - as it were - Thistle fluttered over to the cleared spot on the snowy rock cliff... and promptly collapsed. His thin wings hung at his side, his neck and legs sprawled. How he hated this weather! His body just did not react the way it used to. For perhaps the first time in his whole life, Thistle wished he was just a regular Soquili and not so influenced by the elements.

"I have no idea," Thistle looked up at her with one eye. "Maybe a tormentor was getting to be too much?" He sighed deeply, thinking of his own personal thorn-in-his-side. The stallion was a bit more lethargic, and his attitude was as bleak as the countryside.

"Beautiful?" He finally stood, strong enough from his short chase. The little stallion shook the snow and dirt from his mane and coat. "No, it's not" Thistle looked at the filly squarely. "I think it's horrid. In the summer, the sight is much better - all colors of the rainbow. Flowers bloom and brighten any day."

He took another deep breath, but she wouldn't know. As she said, she was just recently born. "My name is Thistle, and your's?"

She turned to look at him...ignorant much? "Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder, I guess." snorting sofly. She thought it was pretty, what he said hurt her feelings. She liked winter, it was pleasant and unkind all in one just like summer. "Summer is no better, as their are winter storms, summer can cause droughts and make one not want to be out so long because it is to hot. One must not complain on what a day brings but enjoy that their is a day to bring." she trotted in a small circle before curling into a tight ball in the snow. She was a bit chilly at the moment, but she wouldn't complain. She watched him as he sprawled out on the land.

"Eve." she replied simply, before looking out towards the horizion. The clouds were grey today and the sun was being shy today.

"Well, Eve, you speak like one much older than you are." Thistle mumbled before preening himself a little. Not that he was vain, he just knew what he had said had made the filly defensive and he didn't want to make her too mad - she WAS bigger than him afterall.

"Mmm... heat... I think I may have to cross the mountains soon. The desert is on the other side, and it's always hot there. Rains are rare and the florals aren't as pretty... but there is more color than this white. While you may enjoy it... it does not hold my interest." Thistle looked out again, and couldn't suppress the shudder than ran along his body. Why was it that this white death had to cause so much suffering?

"Thank you, I suppose. My grandfather is the best teacher." she smiled softly. She watched as he preened himself. "What are you doing?" she questioned intrigued. Her brow rose curiously. Her multi colored eyes watched him curiously. He short mane ruffled in the breeze as she looked up with a smile. The light bulb seemed to go up in her mind. But then she remembered the slightly depressed elder.

"Don't worry it will be back soon, spring...that is." she smiled wistfully.

Thistle chuckled, "Well, I suppose so." He decided to use one of her own words. But when she asked what he was doing, his face fell a little and the stallion took in a deep sigh. "I thought I was saving you, but that was evidentally not the case. You were not in any condition that needed any saving," and Thistle sighed again. Wouldn't that have bee a story - saving the filly from sudden death. One day, he would have his own tale to tell.

"But spring cannot come fast enough, I am afraid." Thistle really didn't like winter. "Maybe then my wings won't ache as much anymore, almost not worth it - almost." He smiled slowly, he wouldn't trade his winds for anything, but they really were a bother in this cold weather.

Eve smirked softly, "Well if your wings hurt, I know a way to warm them up!" she flicked her short tail as she watched him. "Let's play a game." her eyes gleamed as they sparkled with a stars.

"Do you want to?"
PostPosted: Thu May 08, 2008 7:27 pm

Thistle had raised an eyebrow at the first comment - surely she was too young to understand such things! But.... it seemed like she just wanted to play a game. He wasn't sure exactly what she meant, but if he felt it was not appropriate, he could simply say no.

So the little stallion smiled kindly, "Well, sure! Games might work. As long as there isn't any rolling around in snow or water, I am up for it."

"What game shall we play, young Eve?" Of course, Thistle wouldn't call her 'little', as she was much bigger than he was!

"Tag?" she questioned, she stood with her long legs as she watched him. "Or something else if you wish too." she bucked for a moment. She smiled softly as her multicolored eyes watched him with much amusement, she was starting to like this violet colored soquili. He was nice, so why shouldn't she. That and he had a bit of a sense of humor.
