The wind blew softly sending the scent of the mornings frost everywhere. Brown eyes opened slowly as the scent reached a mare lying beneath a leafless sapling. She lifted her head and inhaled deeply letting the cold air wash over her like a two-legger brushing her coat. She smiled softly and stood as a stronger breeze rushed at her lifting up the long tresses of her mane for a moment before allowing them to settle on the ground again.
"You would like to play?" She asked her voice as light and airy as the wind she was questioning. Almost in answer a few strands of her mane were lifted from the rest by a soft bit of wind that was almost unnoticeable. "Then...I could play with you." She stepped away from the tree slowly, her steps falling so softly they barely left a mark on the frost.
Once she felt she had enough room she started trotting about in circles humming a soft tune. This was her version of playing.

After having wandering away from the little family re-union a few days earlier. Yiska had taken off to traveling again. He knew in the back of his mind Vasu had probably done the same in time. Though he did still seem to have quite an interest in their baby siblings. Who knew. Perhaps next time he saw Vasu'Raj, Yiska would be an uncle.
As the sun peeked over the eastern mountains, the young stallion came over the crest of a hill. Gazing down upon the sparkling snow as it glittered in the morning rays of the sun. It was worth it to get up at as early as it was in the morning. Just to stand and watch as the world around him awoke before his very eyes.
Quite calming really.
Movement caught out of the corner of his eye turned his head. Eyes squinting as he tried to spot what it was. Once they focused, he made out the figure of a mare....who was trotting about in circles. Peculiar. But Yiska had seen stranger.

This was nice. It had been a long time since she had last played like this and the wind picking up and blowing her mane and tail around every so often made it so much better. Closing her eyes she made her way around a few more circles when she noticed something a bit off.
"Wind?" She opened her soft brown eyes again and looked around curiously. It had stopped blowing. It had run away. "Where...why did you leave?" Her eyebrows furrowed slightly as a look of helplessness fell on her soft features. She'd been left alone. She had been so sure that the air had wanted to play. It seemed she was wrong and now she had angered the wind.
With a sigh she hung her head before sinking to the ground to lay there. So she could puzzle over what it was she was supposed to do that she hadn't done.

Both eyebrows raised now as he watched the playful mare hang her head and sink to the ground. That was a quick change in mood if he had ever seen one. What exactly had just happened?
A little curious and a little concerned, he gave a subtle flick of his curly tail and trotted down the hill side. Light and easy steps as he went and letting out a nicker so as to not scare her. You never knew with some Soquili now a days. Plus it was the polite thing to do in any circumstance to let others nearby know that your here.
As he drew close, he noticed the random butterfly patterns that adorned her pelt. A small smile tugged at his lips as he stopped a few feet short of where she lay. Letting his head drop down a bit. "Are you ok?" His voice was low, but soft. Still not wanting to scare her. Yiska found his voice could sometimes be quite loud and startling if he didn't keep it in check.

Her head lifted as the sound of another horse reached her. She turned her head in the direction the noise had come from and found the source almost immediately. A stallion black with some green in his coat coming towards her. Before she could really tell what was happening she was standing a small smile on her face as a greeting.
"I am fine." She said softly her voice almost in a monotone. She could feel a change washing over her. Something Dark had called 'her defense'. Something that separated what happened on the outside from her mind so it wouldn't be harmed. "Just playing."
Her smile was becoming a bit strained as she tried to fight off the auto pilot her body was trying to set on her like she had been taught to.

He smiled. Happy to know that he hadn't startled her and that she seemed to be fine. On the outside anyway.
"Playing huh? With who might I ask?" Yiska gave a subtle glance side to side. Curious as to who her invisible play mate might of been. Or where in fact. The young stallion remembered a few times as a foal, playing by himself. But he had grown out of that 'invisible friend' stage long ago. This mare seemed to hold onto that, if that were the case.

"The wind." Her smile eased a little bit as the question gave her mind something to think on other then protection for a bit. Was that would it would take to keep her 'defense' from coming into play? Questions. "It seems to have been scared away though. You didn't frighten it did you?"
A sharp pain in her head and her smile faltered again. She hadn't expected that it would have been so hard to do what Dark had told her. Normally her mind and body responded favorably to orders. Maybe one like 'keep your mind' was a bit too much to handle.

"I wasn't aware that you could scare the wind. It seems like a very brave thing really." Yiska lifted his head momentarily to catch the wind against his face. His curly mane fluttered wildly before he lowered his head once more. The curls falling flat against his head and neck.
A small frown appeared as his ears flicked back once. "I'm sorry if I did scare it though. I didn't know."

Her eyes were starting to lose their focus a bit and her mind was beginning to cloud over. Brave? The word echoed back and forth in her mind for a second or two before she managed to comprehend exactly what had just been said. "The wind is...brave?" She asked finding it a bit strange to hear her own voice echoing about in her head like a strangers. She found it even stranger that she had to think on what she had just said to get it to make sense. Perhaps the strangest thing of all, though, was that she was aware of how odd all of this was. It used to be that she wouldn't think at all on the words that would make there way past her ears and into her mind. In fact she almost liked simply reacting instead of thinking things over after reacting like she was now.
She blinked a few times in slight confusion as she felt her long mane lift off her shoulders and saw that the stallion's mane was doing the same. A small half smile graced her and she laughed softly a little spark flicking into her eyes. "The wind." Her voice was softer then it had been seconds ago but there was emotion in it now, happiness. "You didn't scare it at all...it's just been playing."
((So sorry for the long wait. I was stuck without the net for a few days and when I got back I had a lot of things to take care of.))

He watched her closely as it seemed the whole concept puzzled her. And it made him wonder. What exactly was going on inside that head of hers.
It made him tilt his head in a curious fashion. The wind picking up his curly mane once more. Flicking it about and making the feathers behind his ear dance against his muscular neck.
The new tone to her voice made him smile a bit. "Ah. Well I'm glad then. It seems the wind likes to be a little trickster then. Playing hide and go seek."

"Yes. Hide and seek. Tricky wind." It sounded almost as though she were scolding it. "If you hide someone will hurt you for being bad." At first it seemed like she had been playing but the look on her face was serious. It was no joke to Scarlet, hide and seek was not a good game to play. If you stayed away for too long the others would get angry but if you were found too soon you were boring and they got made anyway. No, it wasn't a good game at all.

Yiska clicked his tongue against the roof of his mouth once as she finished speaking. From how he spoke, this mare had had a pretty rough life. If he was guessing right.
A small frown soon appeared on his maw once more. "Hurt you for being bad? Why would they hurt you for being bad? Hide and seek is suppose to be a fun game for all. No one should hurt you for hiding. Unless you were hiding from them in the first place cause they were going to do something bad to you before you hid...." It was a bit confusing. He supposed that he really couldn't understand that much as all the games of hide and seek he had played were fun. Something that he and his siblings could laugh about and just have...fun.
Had she never had much fun in her life? Or any at all?

Soft brown eyes widened and Scarlet gasped shaking her head wildly. "No! He would only ever hurt me if I'd done something wrong! Never for no reason..." Her eyes flicked downward a pang of sorrow beating in her heart. She was both relieved and upset at this feeling. Upset for the obvious reason being that she felt sad, relieved because her mental block had faded away completely, for a moment at least.
She turned to face the stallion again her eyes shimmering with tears a bit too stubborn to fall. "I would only get hurt when I didn't do what I was told. Only when I was bad. It was never for no reason...you understand...right?"

"Yea, I understand. But..." The stallions eyebrows furrowed. He understood yes, but was confused still all the same. "No one should hurt you. No one has any right to lay a hoof on you for any reason. Be it for no real reason or for you being bad. You shouldn't be punished for your mistakes. Corrected sure, but by words that tell you what it is you did wrong and given a solution as to not do it again."
Perhaps Yiska didn't understand at all. Maybe he was trying to but just couldn't grasp the concept. His own parents were kind. Never rose their voices or a hoof. He had come across some wrly characters in his short existence in this world, but only once had he ever been harmed, more mentally than physically, by another.
And he had promised himself long ago after that ordeal was over with that it would never happen again.
