Alright, so I've been wondering for a while who else has Rune Factory and how much they like it. Along with what they like and what they don't like.

I personally am quite hooked, but It's hard for me to think of it in the context of a genuine Harvest Moon Game.

Like
There's a storyline! O.o that's new! It's actually a pretty decent story at that.

Holy cow ELEVEN girls to chose from?!

Colored grass even in the winter!

Gems that DON'T have to be found only in the wintertime.

Time running normally in the caves!

Only ONE house upgrade needed.

The ability to make your own items and weapons. AND sell them.

Seven monster huts, three floors each... LOTS of animal space :3

Dislikes

You MUST be a boy. I wish there was an option to be a girl, even if there's only a couple of possibly-marriage-age in town.

Rune Points. Dear GOD I hate those things. They don't level up when you do, and are ALWAYS 100, no matter how hard you try.

Pasture grass. You have to WATER it O.o and it doesn't grow back after you harvest it. It's just easier to BUY ridiculous amounts of feed for your monsters.

Monster hunting. Seriously, while you can get sheep-like critters called Woolly's (I call em Sheeple) in the second cave you go to, you aren't able to get cows or chicken-type monsters until you hit Mt. Gignat. It's the fourth cave, but it's NOT easy to get to.

Passes. WHY in the WORLD did they make it so that we need passes to get into these caves? I admit, I'm a bad girl and would CHEERFULLY disobey the signs. Darn Laguna (the PC) for being such a goody-two-shoes XP

Limits in crafting/forging. Making things is fun, but unless you have the experience for it, you fail miserably. Makes sense, but really sucks.

Not a Harvest Moon. It doesn't feel like a proper HM game to me. Apparently your child doesn't grow up, your wife doesn't help around the house/farm, and the festivals are just.. ugh. Talking. No interactions at all, just TALKING.

It's a wonderful game, but I don't think it deserves the title of being a Harvest Moon. What about the rest of you?

crying Don't insult Rune Factory its too trippy to insult, I mean normal harvest moon is cool but after a while I just get tired of the whole water the crops, picks the crops and sell the crops cycle but now if i'm bored i can just go kill something in a cave and then laugh about its pitiful-ness

I'm not insulting it, I'm just stating very plainly things I do and don't like about it.

I own it, I play it, and I still like it, it just doesn't feel like a genuine Harvest Moon game to me.

Besides, the monsters are useful, and cute. I just think it deserves to be a stand-alone type, not under the label of Harvest Moon. Like how the Japanese had it. Harvest Moon wasn't even part of the title.

I'll start with what I don't like:

-The character dialogue. Some of it is pretty amusing, but after a while it gets really repetitive. Other Harvest Moon games suffer from it as well, but there were a lot more events in those ones to balance it out.

-How easy it is to make money, especially since there isn't much to buy. In the English version of MFoMT the vacation house was 100,000,000 G and even with Won's apple game it takes a really long time to make that much. Yet in Rune Factory you can forge items that sell for thousands.

-It seems like it's a short game. After marriage and the main storyline there doesn't seem to be a really good reason to keep on playing.

-The festivals are kind of boring, like the one on the first of summer and New Year's Eve.

What I like:

-The music.

-The bachelorettes. I like all of them and have no idea who to marry on my second file.

-Forging. I think it would be better if the items didn't sell for quite as much, but it adds so many more items into the game and gives you a reason to go mining.

-Some of the festivals. I know I mentioned that some are boring, but I liked the Treasure Hunt. Only thing is I wish the other characters participated as well.

-It's a lot of fun, much more fun than some of the other non-traditional (and even some of the traditional) Harvest Moons.

I really like that they made a more fantasy-ish harvest moon game.
I really love rp games like Dark Cloud and Final Fantasy, now, I can play a rp game AND a harvest moon game all in one! I absolutely love it <3

What I dont like atm is that the characters looks so adorable as drawings, but when you play ingame, the characters are all weird, I dont think they look much like their drawings at all :/

I've just started the game, so I cant really comment a lot on this right now sweatdrop

I have to say I really like this harvest moon game too.

True, it's not a traditional harvest moon game and I do miss things like the Harvest goddess, the sprites, my horse...

but still I really like the fighting in the game, the artwork and graphics have no comparison in any other HM game.

I wish there were a few more people in town, seems rather small to me.

idea But they are coming out with a RF 2, I'm not quite sure what the story line is, something to do with building another library as I heard- but after you get married and have a kid (which can be either a guy or a gal) you can play as that kid! And either gender has his or her own love interest! yaay!

I do think rune factory is pretty good, but it hasn't got me hooked in the same way as MFoMT.

I'm not sure what it is i dont like to be honest. I like the more 'cute' appearence of the other games, and I dont like the way that you have to kill all the monsters in the cave over and over just to get to you crops. I also find the conversations with the town people a little boring redface oh and i like playing as a girl!

But hey i dunno! its a pretty good game, maybe i just need to play it some more and really get into it ^^

I personaly love this game. It's like they threw two of my favorite games into one. I have always loved RPGs and Harvest Moon is just plain addicting. Throw those two things togeather and you have a game I will play for hours. Though, it may not seam like a real Harvest Moon game, I still believe that it is part of the series, if only a smll part.
