Antony was doing research on the fall of Rome. It was a rather interesting subject, especially the crazy guy that watched as it burned down. He wondered for a moment as he flipped the page, if he should learn how to play the violin.
It did make for a dramatic scene...
The library itself was quiet, and the snow could be seen falling outside the window, gently coating the afternoon with white. He didn't look forward to the walk home, but it was necessary. And at least he had a fashionable jacket, gloves, and hat to wear as he went. All of which were piled on the chair next to him.

Manuela had a penchant for running a little late since the arrival of her new assets. But she had promised Antony she would meet him at the library to study for history. Even then she was a few minutes late, and she silently snapped at herself as she tugged her Roca coat tight around her shoulders and ducked past the people outside into the building. Humming a quiet Christmas tune she had heard on the radio she walked up and down the rows of books, hoping to catch sight of the princely boy. Finaly she spotted him, engrossed in a book. With a devilish smile she slipped up behind him, throwing her arms around his neck as she proclaimed, "Gotcha!"

He jerked, startled, and grabbed her arm, only to recognize the color of the hand. Then he blinked at its size. "Manuela?" he asked in shock as he turned to look up at her. "You've grown! You look--you look... beautiful," he said with a princely smile.
Inwardly he was pissed. Yet another kid growing before him. It wasn't fair!!

"Thanks," she said softly, taking the seat beside him. She peered down at the books, sighing in sudden remembrance of the reason she was there. "So what did you want to do for the project?" she asked curiously, "I think we have to do a skit, about Julius Caesar or something." She tapped her gold fingernails on the table, pouting because she didn't have any ideas.

"Actually Julius Ceaser--" he stopped, then went on. "Already has a play. It's by Shakespeare. I watched it on the BBC once, he was killed by his best friend. I was thinking more along the lines of Nero playing his fiddle as Rome burned down behind him. Do you know he used Christians as living torches?"

Her face paled for a moment. "Woah, that's like- Really sick," she managed to rasped, "So he just sat there while his city was burning down? How could he do that to all those people? What a mean guy." Maybe she should pay attention in history once in a while instead of napping behind her hair.

"Ah, well I'm pretty sure he was insane," Antony said. Still didn't stop him from wanting to learn the violin. "I was thinking we could do a reproduction of the Roman arena, where all the fighting took place? It was like an outdoor stadium made of bricks. And there were gates that the contestants came through. Gladiators and such."
He flipped the page, showing her a picture of two men fighting.

Manuela nodded intently, though the thought of people fighting to the death upset her. "They fought animals too, right?" she asked curiously, thinking perhaps they could do something with animals instead of a bunch of bleeding people. It wasn't much better, but it was something. Or maybe he would let them do one of the arena empty.

"Lions were especially well liked," he agreed. "But they also had races there," he added. "Have you ever seen Ben Hur? One of the biggest scenes is of a cart and horse race in the arena. They used spikes in the wheels to destroy the wheels of the competitors. I bet we could do one of those..."

She cringed visibly, holding one hand to her chest. "Maybe.. Something a little less violent?" she requested as she reached to close the book, "Like the temples, or Aquae Sulis." She had only remembered that lesson because the place was so beautiful still, and the thought of public baths had amused her.

He blinked, thinking about it. "We'll need a different book," he said as he closed his and stood. "Shall we find one?"

"Yeah," she said happily, hoping he wasn't too upset having to change the subject away from pain and death. Trying to think of a compromise she came up with something that seemed in between the two. "What about the priests?" she asked, "Like the haruspex, didn't they try and read the furture off of animal organs?"

"Hmmm," he said, not looking too interested. "We can do the baths. It's interesting and would make for a good looking model."
He was a decent artist, after all. His father always gave him a hard time for being such a perfectionist and not conveying emotions. But that didn't matter for a school project.

Manny only nodded, but on the inside she was sighing in relief. Got him in your game, she told herself silently, letting a grin slip onto her face. Thinking about it, she swung her hips as she walked, flicking her tail for effect. "I think the books on that would be the with religious history," she advised, heading toward the shelf.

Attractive, he admitted silently. But still, he really had liked the idea of building an arena. Oh well, it was true, a bloody scene with people fighting lions was not very princely.
In other words his hormones weren't in control of his mind at this age.
