Ruffian's whole world turned upside down after that night. Daemon had been the only reason she could stand it. Seven children? While that wasn't unheard of in the Pridelands, it certainly was in her family. She had only had one brother, and that was it. She wasn't so sure about Daemon's side, but....

Today they had left some of the cubs with Siri, while two tagged along with them on a little outing. It had been maddening, spending so much time in the cave, but she needed to take care of her children, and make sure that they grew up happy.

"Sado, be careful, okay?"

Sado, the little oddball one of the family (if only colour-wise) bounded behind his mother, trying to pounce on her tail. It was safe to say, though, that he wasn't very good at pouncing. Not yet, at least.

"Oof!" Another failed attempt at trying to get his mother's tail. With a sulk, he decided to wait for now, and he'd catch it when his mother wasn't paying so much attention to him alone.

"I am safe, Momma!" He scurried around to his father, keeping away from his mother for now, juuuust in case she decided to do anything more but warn him about being safe. Daddy was safe, so then he would be safe in proxy.

"Sado...mind your mother," Daemon said with a grin, as he walked he leaned down and scruffled up Sado's fur atop his head. Yes, his son, oddball son, but Daemon's son none the less. Daemon walked beside Ruffian, smiling, he smiled a lot lately, he was a father, he had a loving mate who he loved with all of his heart, life was good.

"Tearh...come on...don't fall behind darling..." daemon glanced back to his youngest daughter, tiniest as well. Tearh always seemed nervous, and she was always petrified to be left alone.

Daemon didn't want her to be afraid all of the time..but what could change it?

"Yes daddy..." Tearh then ran with her tiny paws and walked beside her mommy, she loved her mommy so, wanted to be strong like mommy. Mommy was Tearh's role model, and Tearh loved her so. "Mommy...where are we going?" her light blue eyes trailed to settle on Ruffian's tail, she was tempted to pounce like Sado had, but if Sado couldn't do it, she couldn't...she was so small.

If Sado, her big brother couldn't do it, then she surely couldn't.

No, no sir-ee.

Ruffian's mind wandered for a moment with her daughter's question. "I'm not sure where we should go....does Daddy have any ideas?" She teased a grin at him, not minding if he didn't, but loving to all him daddy. Seeming to dump everything on him was fun; it still let her feel young, energetic, and such the troublesome girl she had always been.

She slowed her pace a bit for her little daughter, knowing that she couldn't quite keep up with her all the time. She was worried a bit that Tearh paid so much attention to her, with every detail, but there was no way she could tell her daughter to just be herself. Not like that. Ruffian was too blunt at times, and blunt didn't work with cubs.

Sado's expression weakened when his father scolded him. Sure, he was smiling, but he wanted his Dad to save him from his mother, like some super strong dude! Maybe...well, whatever. She shook it off and bounded over to his sister to nudge her forward excitedly.

"We're going on an adventure, Tearh~!" Sado liked going out and seeing new things. Everything was so big and fun! He hoped that they'd go somewhere neat, and maybe even a bit dangerous. Now that would be awesome. And they had their parents with them, so there was no need to worry about anything! Dad was super strong, and Momma was smart and just somewhat strong enough to help them. Sado was a liiittle biased when it came to his dad.

Daemon smirked at Ruffian, was she playing games already today? Well then. He grinned at her, gazed at his two cubs about with them, and thought for a moment, "Hmm, well, how about a lesson by the waterhole today, a swimming lesson?" he asked in question, quirking a brow at Ruffian as if asking permission.

It would be better if they got used to the water when young, hat way they wouldn't be s scared when older.

Daemon thought it was a good plan for today, but he wanted to make sure that Ruffian though it was alright, and not too soon.

"W-water hole?" Tearh asked, almost running into Ruffian's legs. Sado seemed so confident all the tie, why couldn't she be like Sado, huh? It wasn't fair. Adventures, the thought was exciting but petrifying, why couldn't she just...go out there and have fun? She was so afraid of being left alone...being alone.

What was wrong with her?

She peered up at Ruffian with crystal blue eyes, as if silently saying 'Only if you go...'

Tearh loved her mother so.

Oh crap. Swimming? Ruffian's mind couldn't help but remember the horrible 'lesson' she had given Siri, so long ago. Hopefully it would go much smoother than that. Much. At least she already had some experience in swmming lessons. Of what not to do.

"Sounds like a good plan, Dad," she replied, her eyes sparkling at him. This would be quite an interesting lesson today, what with Sado and Tearh with them. She used a paw to push Tearh more to her side, since it was harder to keep an eye on her if she hung around her back side. Silly Tearh.

Sado's expression was one of determination. He would do this whole swimming thing, whatever it was, and be the best at it of all his sibilings. Besides, nothing could go wrong with their parents there.

"Yaay, sounds like fun, let's go let's go!" he yelled, knowing better than to run ahead, but still showing his excitement to his parents with the wiggling and running around their legs and all that. He had been to the watering hole a few times before this, but now he'd be allowed in it. Was that swimming? Maybe he could chase after those birds that were in the water, too! "This'll be fun, Tearh!"

"Alright then, it's settled, you know Sado, Tearh, I taught Siri how to swim," he said with a grin. Yes, Siri, Daemon was protective over that girl, she was so sweet, he knew her since she had been young, since he had been here. He remembered how petrified she was of the water, but now that fear was all gone. He had helped, she had learned, now his cubs would learn too.

"Excited slightly Sado hmm?" he asked with a chuckle, nudging Sado's shoulder slightly, "Race ya there," he said with a wink, and Daemon looked towards Ruffian, Tearh may or may not want to race...he wasn't sure.

Tearh could be so silly sometimes.

Tearh felt herself being pushed closer to her mommy's side and she smiled, hopping over tiny pebbles in her path. Yes, she could hop, thats what she knew how to do. "Is swimming hard mommy?" she asked innocently, light blue eyes gleaming at her.

Would she be alright, would the water attack her?

"You'll stay with me and daddy and Sado, right mommy?" an obvious question, but Tearh had to ask, she loved her mommy so.

Ruffian's brown eyes curiously peered down at her silver daughter. What did she mean? "Of course I'm not going anywhere, Tearh, where did you think Mommy would be going, hm?" She gave her a reassureing smile with a quick lick on the top of her head before shaking her head at her mate and son. "Boys, always wanting to make a competition out of everything." She wouldn't admit, right there anyway, that she was just as cometitive, if not more, than them. She loved nothing better then winning, especially if it was her mate that she beat. Silly, sure, but she sure loved to tease him about everything.

"You boys can have your run, Tearh and I will catch up with you at the hole." She drew her daughter close to her, to make sure that there wasn't any way she could get in the way of the father and son 'race' that was about to take place.

Sado grinned at his father, giving a little pounce ot his massive white paw. He tried to get his little teeth around it to gnaw on his toes, but as soon as he got anywhere close to that, he heard the words 'race'. Oh oh oh! "I wanna race, Daddy! Let's race!" He bounced away from his father's paw ot his side, gearing up to run as fast as his little stubby legs could carry him, in hopes of at least keeping up with his dad. He wasn't that fast, not yet, but he would be someday.

"C'mon, Mooom, you guys should race too!" he protested, hearing that his mom and his sister were going to sit this one out. That wasn't any fun! A fun race would be the girls against the boys. Now that would be awesome.

Daemon gave Ruffian a smirk ad stuck out his tongue in a playful manner at his mate. He loved her so. Daemon peered down at his silver daughter and watched her for a moment, ears swiveling, she always seemed so nervous about either of them going away somewhere, why would they go away, where could they go? This was their home, family was here, this was home.

"You sure you don't want to join us?" he asked quirking a brow, giving her a smirk, but he gave a silent expression to Ruffian that if Ruffian wanted to race just with Daemon, he was up for it, oh yes.

Maybe a swimming race...

"Alright Sado...ready?" Daemon stopped, crouched down, and ruffled the fur atop his son's head, "...set...." Daemon knew he could win easily, but he'd stay at his son's side as they'd run...then at the end..who knew...

If they weren't walking, Tearh would have clung to her mothers leg, and not leg go for a time. She had had a few nightmares not that long ago, about being alone in hte dark, no one there, but she didn't want to tell mommy or daddy, they would think that she was silly. "I don't know mommy...." there was hesitation in her soft voice, and she let her eyes wander away.

She didn't want to think of not having mommy or daddy around...no.

Race? No, Tearh was too small and short to be able to win a race, maybe a hiding game, but not a race, Tearh walked close to Ruffian's leg so that her side would graze against her mother's black fur as she walked, and watched.

Races...boys...

"I'm sure, I'll hang back and keep an eye on Tearh," she admitted, nudging her daughter just a bit closer to her side yet again. Sometimes it was a bit crippling, to have a daughter cling so closely to you, but she was slowly getting used to it. She did hope that Tearh eventually grew out of it, though, because Ruffian couldn't hold her hand forever in this world. At least with such a shy and scared girl, she was born here, in the Pridelands, and not in the same situation that Ruffian went through herself.

"What do you say, Tearh? Let those rough boys tire each other out and we can just sit and laugh at them for being so silly?" she said, smiling down at her silver daughter.

Sado was totally ready for this race. Even before his dad had started the countdown, he was ready to go! He crouched down next to his huge white father, a little attempt at a growl escaping his throat as his dad started to count down. So slow!

"And go!" Sado yelled, scrambling his little paws towards where the watering hole was. He was sure he wasn't going to let his dad win by a landslide. Nope, today he would keep up with him, and show him just how strong he was growing. Someday, someday he would be faster than his dad, though!

"Y-yea...let them go and play, I'll stay with you mommy," Tearh said walking close to her mommy's side. She loved her so incredibly so, so, so much. Tearh was still so young she didn't know how her clinginess might affect her mother, but Tearh couldn't help it. Tearh wondered about tomorrow, about tomorrow if she should talk with her mommy about the strange nightmares she had had so far. They scared her, and made her act the way she did.

Watching Sado and her father, Tearh watched as her brother ducked down, then scrambled off as if he was her, running away from that black monster under the tree. Tearh stayed close to her mom, and watched ans walked along still.

Daemon grinned to Sado, went to finish, but his brown pelted son was already off. No fair! He chuckled though, Sado was growing so strong and sly already. Daemon tore after his son, and caught up easily enough, though ran beside his son, "Come on Sado...you can do it," he said with encouraging smiles and a tone of voice.

His son Sado would grow up to be so, so strong.

Ruffain patted her daughter as they slowly followed after the two rough boys. More worried flew through her head, but with a mental pawshake she waved them away. There was no need to worry about things that might not even be there, and besides, whatever was wrong with Tearh would grow out of her. Ruffian herself had been pretty timid as a girl, she had just been forced to grow up quite quickly when the invasion came.

Her brown eyes took a quick glance to the lands around them. At least that would never happen here.

Sado was already staring to get tired, and obviously his father seemed to notice that before even he knew! He was more determined to get there, though, than to stop and take a break. Especially if he wanted to make sure that he totally beat his sister and mother in getting there. Who knew, maybe if he took a break they would somehow catch up!

"Let's go Dad, let's go!" he panted, keeping up with his own pace as they made their way to the watering hole. He'd want to jump right into that when he got there, if he had the chance!

Daemon ran at his son's side and picked up a little speed, then skid to a stop right before the water's edge and took a side step so that if Sado couldn't stop, at least they wouldn't both fall in, though he chuckled at the thought of Sado becoming damp all over. Flicking his tail Daemon let his eyes rise to watch as Tearh was nearly clinging to Ruffian's leg, he still didn't understand it, why his youngest daughter was always so worried, but he didn't want to press on the matter, least, not right now.

"Maybe next time Sado huh? You're getting pretty fast though," he stated with a nod, trying to boost his brown pelted son's confidence.

Yes, Sado would be so fast one day, that was certain.

Tearh stayed quiet at her mother's side, she loved her mother and father so, so much. Flicking her tail, as if trying to mimic her father from afar, she watched Sado and looked to the water hole as it glimmered, and she gulped. Could she do this? Mommy would be here...but still, could she do this? Tearh was tempted to try and walk under her mother's paws, to stay as close as possible but she pushed the thought away.

Only a little further though and...maybe...umm...swimming.

And she gulped again.

Sado huffed as he tried to get more air into his lungs. Well, he tried hard! Really really hard, but he still didn't make it. He collapsed at the feet of his father, clinging to them to make sure that he didn't go anywhere. He was too tired to speak right now, but once his breath returned he would be ready to challenge his father to something else! Definately.

Ruffian's ears popped up when she saw that her son collapsed, but since Daemon didn't seem too worried, she decided to not let Tearh worry as well, and returned her attentions to her daughter, giving her a nudge with her nose.
"Heeey, we're almost there, y'see? Daddy's right there, probably ready to teach you how to swim! Isn't that exciting?" she asked, trying to get her a bit more relaxed and not so worried. Worrying so much certainly couldn't be good for the little cub now, could it?
PostPosted: Mon Jan 21, 2008 9:18 am

Daemon chuckled as Sado seemed to flop over from exhaustion, and he lowered his head to peer at his son, a smile on his face, as he raised one free paw to ruffle the fur atop his tiny little head. "You'll get me someday Sado, I have no doubt about that, why don't you have a drink before I teach you and our sister how to swim huh?" Daemon turned to look at the water hole, this side was shallow, beneath the surface were pebbles that lined the bottom so Sado and Tearh's paws wouldn't get stuck in the muck.

They could do it, he knew they could.

Flicking his tail he smiled at Ruffian and Tearh, so close, and soon the fun would begin.

Tearh stayed close to her mother's side, and saw Sado fall over, and she nearly squeaked with worry, but mommy and daddy didn't seem to be worried, so...he had to be okay, right? "Daddy's right there with Sado, yup, mommy, you'll help too right?" she asked with sparkling blue eyes. She wanted her mommy to be right there because her mommy was the best mommy ever, so strong and smart!

Mommy could even pin daddy, which she smiled at to herself.

Tearh stopped at the water's edge, peeked at it, and turned towards Ruffian, silently asking Do I REALLY have to?.

Sado had wriggled his butt in anticipation of swimming, but he did have to agree with his father that he was a bit thirsty after his run. He scrambled to the edge, his eyes wide as he looked at the water with a newfound curiosity. He bent down to drink, soon letting the cool water soothe his throat.

The little cub was a bit too wiggly, though, and soon he felt himself lose his balance. The cub squeaked with astonishment as he felt himself slipping just a bit more. He wiggled his legs to try and hold onto the side, but he wasn't too strong yet, and gravity pulled him down into the water with a splash!

Ruffian smiled. "C'mon Tearh, it'll be good for you to know how to swim, just in case you ever fall into the water." She knew that it was rare for anything to happen in the watering hole, but you never knew with cubs. If they didn't really know how to swim...she really didn't want to think about the possibility of finding one of her babies at the bottom of the hole. It made her sick just playing with the though.

A splash jerked her away from her thoughts, though it obviously just threw her right back into them. And soon enough, one of her children had fallen right into the watering hole. It was shallow, and the two of them were there, but still! "Sado!" she called out, swiftly running his way to try and get him. Sure, Daemon was closer, but she couldn't help but feel panic for her brown-coloured son.
