Healer Barracks

Located deep within the weyr, several lengths below the kitchens and just left, are the healers' barracks. Anyone descending these stairs would immediatly notice the smell of all the unnamable concoctions the healers are constantly stirring up. The rock seems to have absorbed the smell of numbweed.

On one side of the adequately-lit hall the healer's personal rooms are held. On the opposite side are holding rooms for patients as well as a more advanced room of emergency tools farther down. The end of the hall is signalled by a wooden dorr, behand which is a storage room for various medicines and supplies.

The thumping of her trunk agaiunst the stairs echoes in her ears as Kolina makes her way to the healer's barracks. Eyeing the rooms as she passes she notes that the first is obviously very large & relatively grand. It must be for a Master she thinks to herself as she continues past it.

Shortly she comes to a room that she feels is an appropriate size for a Journeyman healer, with a little extra room to practice her instruments should she have the time. Humming happily to herself she drags her things into the room, carefull that the cords tying her instruments to the top of her trunk should not come untied. Kyira's hum becomes a song as she begins the Duty Song and proceeds to fluff the mattress on the bed. Shifting songs, she begins to settle herself & her things happily about the room making it more home-y & settled-in-feeling.

Perhaps I should keep a journal of everything I experience here... in case I forget something... For although Kyira rarely forgets things she sometimes thinks she does. So thinking, she withdraws a sheet of hide & begins writing in a small neat hand of her arrival at Rias Weyr.

Kyira looks up from her writing at the sound of noise emanating from the weyrbowl. Curiousity rousing her she sets her journal aside & goes to see what the commotion is about.

A soft humming preceeds Kyira's return to her quarters in the healer's barracks. Clasping a Firelizard egg pot ti herself the young healer steps into the room, still smiling softly & a bit dreamily. Seagreen eyes scan the room, taking everything once more into account. This time however there is new purpose. Locating the small hearth Kyira sings to herself as sge heads towards it & lights a small fire. With the warmth of the Southern Continent the journeywoman figures that it will not take too much extra heat to keep her egg at a proper temperature. Turning the egg once more she carefully buries it in the sand of its pot before sitting back on her haunches to survey her handiwork. With a single nod of happiness. Kyira rises from the side of her hearth. Sitting at the desk she is about to unwind her crown of hair when she spies the hide she had been writing on before the Scavenger Hunt. Something flickers in her seagreen eyes as a thought crosses her mind, changing it. Opening the inkwell Kyira writes.

Kyira cleans up & stoppers the ink well, leaving the fresh ink on the hide time to dry ontop of the desk. In case of a breeze from the doorway she carefully sets the inkwell on the corner of the sheet to hold it down. Satisfied, the healer turns her attention to the egg by the hearth. She carefully slips her fingers into the sand & breathes a sigh of relief as she feels the egg. It's a littlewarmer than it was when I found it out of the pot. that should be good. Carefully she rotates the egg to get a new side closer to the tiny blaze. Diligently Kyira tends the fire to a safe level before drawing the grate befire it fir safety. Intending to double check the main healing rooms the journeywoman wants to make certain that there is no chance for a mishap. Pulling the door shut behind her Kyira makes her way down the stairs to the other rooms. I'll be more likely to hear anything going on in the bowl from the tooms closer to the front. I wonder if they've finished the scavenger hunt yet?
Her thoughts keep her company as she straitens and catalogues rooms left ib disary from the illness that had passed through the weyr. Slowly, each room loses a bit of the gloom that inevitably comes to such overused then neglected rooms.

She had nearly lost track of her sevendays since the scavenger hunt in the bowl the day she had arrived. Kolina had only left the Healers' Barraks for meals these past days. From the bustle of the weyr she knew there were eggs already on the sands. She knew the mating flight had been the day before she came to Rias Weyr, but she had yet to meet any more of the dragonriders. Somehow she was not very surprised. The excitement of eggs was overwhelming.

A soft green head nuzzled her cheek. Smiling she stroked her tiny firelizard, delighting in the rapture of her happy purr sounds. Felis was the main reason Kyira was oblivious to the rest of the weyr activities and residents. For the first sevenday she rushed between the main healer rooms cleaning straitening & catalogging and her own room to turn her precious fire lizard egg. She never did find the time to ask anyone better ways to care for her soon to emerge friend. Luckily when the little green was born her healer's knowledge helped her figure out what to do. Of course by then Kyira had learned by rote the way to the kitchens. She figured with all of her trips there at least most if not all the kitchen workers & drudges were innoculated. She worried that she had not gotten the rest of hold & weyr yet. Healer Hall was probably being over-cautious, but better safe than sorry.

Already Fellis would croon along when Kyira sang. The journeywoman loved her sweet descants. She did not feel alone, and almost did not miss the bustle of people she had come to expect and love at Fort.

Sighing Kyira looked at the baren shelves. I really need to get more supplies... we're nearly out of everything. Looking out the window at the gorgeous day outside she decided that it was time to venture into the wilds around Rias. She had read in the books in the room which things to avoid out there and hoped she would be able to recognize them. THe only thing Kyira wished was that she had introduced Fellis to someone so that if she got into trouble Kyira would be able to send the green for help. Kyira would simply have to trust nothing bad would happen. Getting her things together she grabed her list and went to the door.

"Stay close to me, okay Fellis? I might need your eyes." Fellis crooned, wraping her tail tighter about the young woman's shoulders. Her propriety would hardly let Kyira out of her sight.

Kahlin walked slowly down the stairs leading to the Barracks glancing around noise wrinkling at the smell of something below. Sonia flared her wings flapping them giving a unmusical note of displeaser.

"Shush Sonia."He said softly walking down. "Hello? Is anyone down here?" He called out. He was going to try to get a healer to apprientace him. Just like R'ael suggest he couldn't just keep wandering around displeased with what he had been doing for a craft.

Rin decended the stairs slowly, being unsure where she was. "Is anyone here?" She asked. Rin had been in one or two other holds and one other wyer. This one was diffrent in that it had such as place set aside for healers.

Rin was unsure how she would be greeted, seeing as how she was seeking to specialize in dragon healing. As Rin went further on she came behind Kahlin, "Hello, is this where everyone is?" She asked slowly.

Kahlin turned startled stepping back. "I haven't seen anyone yet." He said polietly. "You would not be a healer would you?"

Rin smiled and nodded lightly, "I specialize in dragon healing as my parents did." Rin adjusted her bag on her shoulder.

Kahlin shifted from foot to foot. A dragon healer? It sounded almost to good to be true. "You wouldn't need an apprentic would you?" He said eagierly nearly running the words together and blushed. He sounded like a eager child. "Um..." he trailed of lost for words. What now?

"Well, I learned a lot from my parents, but I think I need more field practice before I take on anyone under me. Also, I don't know this place very well, yet." Rin smiled.

"Ahh okay," he said looking down. This was not easy at all trying to find someone to take him on as an appreintice. "It must be wonderfuly having parents that are dragon healers." He felt a bit jelouse.

"Not really," Rin said with a sigh. "They treated me like an aprentace, but never as their daughter. I wanted to be a normal child, but never got the chance. The closest I ever got was spending the fishing season helping my grandfather."
Rin smiled, "But now I'm here, at such a young age, almost ready to take on an aprentace of my own."
She laughed a little, "Perhaps I wasn't meant to have a childhood."
