Hello! I've been playing the Celtic Harp for a little over a year now and I'm just wondering if anyone else plays it too?

The major thing I want for Christmas/Hanukkah (We're Jewish, but my stepdad's Quaker, so we celebrate both holidays) is my own harp. I'm borrowing one that's a piece of crap from my teacher. She's even said that it belongs in a trash heap. It goes out of tune really quickly and the low G, low B, and low C make weird noises when I play them.

Also, does anyone know what instruments sound good with the harp? I know the celtic harp's good for small groups and the pedal harp's good for orchestras, and I hope to move up to the pedal harp someday, but for now I'd like to find some other people to play with... when I was still playing piano I joined the Jazz Band and discovered that I actually royally suck at playing with other people, so I'd like to practice and learn how to play with other people better. sweatdrop

Hi!
Welcome =]
i can't say that I play celtic harp..
But I'm Jewish!
So we have something in common!

I'd say harp would sound good with violins, violas, cellos, basses... and maybe a mandolin?

Yee! I just got my own brand new harp for Christmas/Hanukkah!! blaugh blaugh blaugh It's a Catalina 34-String Stavedback from Triplett harps (a really good harp company to buy from). Here's a link to the information page about it. It's the Stavedback with lever set and case. sweatdrop But it sounds sooooo beautiful! Especially when you compare it to my old (crappy) rental harp.

I found my harp teacher by taking piano lessons, actually. I played piano for, like, eight years or so and never really liked it all that much. I also had trouble with teachers who didn't know how to get me to sit down and pay attention to the lesson. sweatdrop I finally went to Lynne (my current teacher), and completely wore her out with how much I disliked the piano and how my mom was forcing me to play, and how I would never practice, etc. I had noticed she had a bunch of instruments (she has a guitar, a dulcimer, a harpsichord, a really interesting little organ, the piano, and her harp, and her husband plays the recorder), and I was completely fascinated with the harp. I asked if I could switch to playing it for over a year before she finally got her rental harp back and could start me on it. I absolutely loved it, and just whizzed through my lessons. It was awesome. 4laugh

I also want to learn to play the violin, the cello or bass, the dulcimer, and the guitar, along with getting voice lessons, but most of that's probably not going to happen, or at least it won't happen for awhile, especially with how much this harp cost. sweatdrop

When my Uncle Richie comes to visit, we'll play together with him on the guitar and me playing the harp, but I still have yet to find someone who plays the violin, viola, cello, bass, or mandolin who wouldn't mind coming over and playing with me. crying Ah well...

Oh, and I have a book or two of Jewish songs to play on the harp! I can play Hine Ma Tov and... I think it's called Avinu Alinu... sweatdrop Sometime soon I'm planning on recording myself playing the harp and putting it on YouTube, just so I can share it. 3nodding I think today I'm going to record myself playing on my old harp, then on the new harp, to show the massive difference. whee
