The morning had been a chilly one indeed for the navy hued colt; his white locks dancing along as he trotted at a quickened pace across the plains. Having left the forest where his family's cave resided, Aiolos was off for some adventure! Good fun of course, he wouldn't dream of causing greif and mischeif for his parents; No no! Mama and Papa were so good to Cicely and himself that he felt it was his job to try and be the least stressful of their kids. It seemed their older siblings took up most of their parent's worries and concerns anyways!

Speaking of such; he hoped to one day meet them personally; only seeing glances of his siblings when they'd either stop for a moment to visit or passing by in the distance.

Aiolos felt a bit different from his family; as most seemed to already see him as a simplistic colt with often uncontrollable urges to run and go as fast as he could. Yet he wasn't simply swift on his hooves; no, he was mentally quick as well since he found it quite easy to figure things out and was a deviously fast learner. Shrugging his shoulders with a proud smirk, Aiolos figured if he was going to be fast in one aspect he might as well try and be speedy in ALL aspects! It just made sense afterall.

Unfortunately seeing as his home was near the base of the stretching distant mountians that foals and other fun life was deviod in the perimiter of his home. Thus day by day he would expand this area bit by bit, looking for anything or anyone who could relieve some of his boredom. Sure; he absolutely adored playing with Cicely but both were curious about the world around them. Aiolos knew that every night when he came home she'd be there to play and be with, it was comforting to always have company to return to even if the day's hunt for fun was unsucessful. However; he sure hoped that he'd find someone to have some fun with! Family could only help so much with the playing till things got routine and his legs itched again to run far and fast!

Taking off in a speedy gallop, Aiolos darted across the flatlands while his ruby hued orbs scanned the scenery as he passed. Oh hopefully there would be some life out today! Well; kind life that is! Last thing he needed was to actually need to run for his life from a Kalona or those sorts of Soquili.

Althalus had, for the umpteenth time, slipped away from his family's careful watch. He was quite young but a burly sort and was the largest of his siblings. Despite his build, which some might look on as pudgy, the young one was a lively sort - if not talking than running, prancing or playing. Today, despite the chill in the air, was no different for the orange lad - he was out searching for adventure and refused to stop until he found it!

The orange colt liked the cold. Given, such an temperature was the only thing he'd known since his birth, but despite the extremities of temperature, Althalus enjoyed it immensely. Snow was lovely to play in, and it was fun to slip and slide on ice. Sure, falling unexpectedly sometimes left him bruised and frazzled, but it was fun! No pain, no gain, right? As it was, the little orange was out prancing - bucking and kicking, acting like the wild colt he was!

But something caught his attention. . . Tucked away at the edges of a small woods, the little orange colt suddenly jumped behind the nearest bush, not out of fright but curiosity. Something was coming . . . a black and grey looking creature, it was running - and fast too! Ooooh. Tail swishing excitedly, the little one bunched up his muscles, not at all worried or afraid of strangers.

It would be the bane of his existence, really. Althalus was bright and intelligent, but that didn't mean he still couldn't be rash and rush in to situations without fully thinking them through. Fearless and bold, the vivacious little one waited until Aiolos was close before bursting out of the bushes and joining the colt in a run.

Competitive, he ran as fast as his hooves could carry him, glad that one was just as speedy as himself. Laughing in good nature, he glanced over at the darker, swirled patterned colt and nickered. "I'll race ya!" He announced, not really giving Aiolos much of a choice in the matter.

Here and now was their time to truly fly!

Where they were racing to, who cared? So long as they could run!

Hey! When did that colt get here?

Turning his head to the side to gance at the orange blurr once, twice even before turning back to the path ahead of him; Aiolos couldn't help but grin gleefully. Oh how he adored company; and it seemed that all of his wishing for such would definately be granted today! Who knew he would be so lucky afterall to find him out in these seemingly deserted meadows? Likewise his own competitive streak began to flourish under the circumstances and he could feel his muscles tense and push a bit harder.

Winning wasn't everything to the colt; but it certianly would be nice! Yet if he made a new friend in the process than he'd already won!

The chilly air rustled through his mane as the pair of colts bolted through the snow drifts and dips, pretty much equally matched in their speed it would just rely on who had more endurance to crown a winner to their little match. Already the dark hued colt could feel his heart pounding in the utmost of adrenalin rushed freedom! No parents to tell him to slow down (which he would have; he'd do anything for them!) for here in this meadow he was as free as the birds in the sky; and if he had wings the colt would have taken off into the air never to land again!

"M-my name is Aiolos!" He breathed between the pants as his chest heaved heavily with each huff; yet he was far from stopping. Luckily for him the colt had been bounding and moving constantly since his hatching forth out of his basket. The notion didn't even seem odd to him; there was just so much to see and do that he couldn't even think to sit still for so long! Who knew what he would miss if he did.

"Thanks for joining m-me!" Aiolos smirked wildly; pressing on ahead before leanding in and nudging against Althalus while they ran. "Lets pick it up, and do some real racing!" And with that the colt's running changed completely, his spine straightening as his head lowered slightly to become more aerodynamic. His legs began to pound harder and harder into the snow as his speed increased dramatically; the snow flying high into the air at each kick up of his hooves. Aiolos was aware Althalus could speed up; for if this orange colt was anything like he; you always save the best of your energy for last.

Althalus hadn't had a good race in a long time! Sure, he goofed off and pranced with his siblings but their races didn't last as long as he preferred. They either quit or got distracted or were plumb too tired. So Althalus often ran alone, and made up imaginary competitors when coerced to be alone. He didn't always win, but he certainly came close!

So now, having this black and white swirled male pick up the heat, Althalus couldn't be more pleased. Chest heaving, Althalus was almost surprised by the sudden touch of affection. The little nuzzle was far from unnoticed, and his surprised was written clearly on his face. At first he believed the little black one to want to play dirty - to try to trip him by pushing him over or tripping up his hooves. But to be given a gentle nuzzle? . . . . strange, but it felt nice! And Althalus wasn't one to turn away anything that was cuddly.

It was no different than as if Aiolos was one of his brothers, at least that's how he himself felt. Panting heavily himself, the orange one gave a little grin before adding, "I'm - I'm Alth-thal-us!" There was a breath between the syllables, but though his muscles were beginning to strain, it felt GOOD.

How much longer could he press on? How much further could he run?

"You're on, Stranga!" He chirped, lowering his head and turning his focus to the horizon. The little one stretched his gait as far as he could, finding his reserve of strength to make sure he kept nose to nose with the speedy black white. Oh, he was competitive, but to him there was no winner or loser. . . races were meant to see who could stick it out and finish 'em, not necessarily who got there first. This wasn't really a race at all, more like an endless run. Where would they end up and how long would they keep up their pace?

Like two dual rockets, the little colts flew. Boy oh boy, Althalus hadn't had this much fun since. . .er. . . since yesterday! It was good to have met a new racing buddy. Maybe they could even become friends and continue their races in the days to come.

"Al...tha...lus! HEY. We got double A names!" He beamed and spoke excitedly through the panting; pressing on to keep up with his very worthy opponent. AA's....it was catchy for sure; and Aiolos was starting to like it more and more each time he repeated it in his head. It was like they were some super cool duo or something! Well what was stopping them from being some cool team? Not much really; except that he was thinking this all in his head instead of letting his orange hued friend know.

"Hey! Wanna be best friends?? I don't h-have a best friend and I....think it would be cool to have one! N-ot to mention...we can have some cool team name like the Double AA's or...something!"

Grinning like a crazy man; Aiolos had a moment of uncertainty that Althalus might say no to his request...but he was certainly hoping that he wouldn't! Unfortunately for the colt he was too busy thinking for once in his life to see the small pot hole in the field and before he knew it his front hoof plummeted down out of sync and through of his momentum....and that momentum happened to twist and lead right into Althalus!

"Gack!" Aiolos yelped toppling into his newfound friend at a now horrible speed to send the pair toppling over in a whirl of snow and uplifted powder. Sitting up slowly and a bit dizzily as the snow stuck to his face and hair; the dark colt glanced over to Althalus before bursting into a fit of giggles and laughter; what. a. RUSH!!!

As they ran, picking up in to a high gear, Althalus was more than pleased at this new stallion. Not only was the swirled one fast just like him, but he was friendly and lively and talkative and liked to run and move! It was great. It was as if they should be brothers instead of the more subdued and quiet ones in the family. But, if not brothers by blood, than perhaps brothers in spirit? Best-friends? "We're . . . thedouble . . . A . . . duo!" He laughed, enjoying the sound of it. A best-friend whose name also started with an A?

It was fate. It truly, truly was!

"We'll be . . . . Best friends. . . . For. . . Ever!" Althalus announced with a nicker, chest heaving as they ran. It wasn't easy to talk and run at the same time, especially because he felt like he was gasping out the conversation. It wasn't that he wasn't in shape - oh no - it merely wasn't an easy task to huff 'n' puff and toss words out at the same time.

Suddenly, the conversation stalled - as did the race - as his best friend suddenly lost control of his footing. Althalus tried to leap out of the way, but it was of no avail and he found himself tangled with his swirled companion and thrown waaaay off course! Toppling head over heels, the pair landed in the snow and Althalus stayed quiet for a moment as his brain tried to understand what had happened.

He wasn't hurt - just dizzy and surprised - but man. . . "That was - - That was WICKED!" He suddenly squealed, laughing in giggles with his friend. They had soared, or so he knew, since all his hooves had left the ground. A good thing there was snow to soften the fall else the pair might have wound up with some serious bruises. Shaking the snow out of his face and hair, the little orange one made sure he untangled himself from Aiolos before rising shakily to his feet. "Are you - are you all right?" He asked, silver eyes taking on a spot of concern.

That had been some fall, and though it had been wicked cool and fun, Althalus knew that sometimes the most fun things could lead to getting hurt. Already protective of his best friend, Althalus reached over and nosed the darker furred one, encouraging him to rise. In an almost affectionate manner, he groomed some of the disheveled mane, getting rid of some of the large chunks of ice and snow tangled within.

"No broken bones or nuthin', right?"

Slowly dying his laughter down as he leant in involuntarily to the grooming; it felt nice to get the slowly melting chunks out of his hair. Hell, they would for sure ruin his streamline frame and create wind resistance! Shooting his ruby orbs up to the sunrise foal he beamed warmly, best friends - wasn't that a most wonderful start to the day! He couldn't wait to go home and tell his family of his newfound best bud; for he was sure that now proclaimed as such he would be seeing a lot more of his adrenalin junkie of a friend.

"That was probably the single most radical thing thats happened so far....Althalus you're amazing!" Aiolos jumped up merrily, making a small face at the stiffness of his legs but figured something like that was natural for the magnitude of the fall they took. "I'm okay...a little dizzy and wobbly but it'll pass you know?" Grinning confidently as to not worry Althalus; the navy colt flicked his white tail to rid it of the snow which stuck to the strands (not that it was particularily visible...).

"Broken bones? Pfft. We're invincible! The AA's dont even gotta think about broken bones!....right Althalus?" Biting at a few of the chunks riddling his reddish mane he let the ice dissolve in his mouth before moving onto the next instead of pulling the hairs to rid it of the ice. "Although I think we should maybe wait untill we get our composeur back before trying anything like that again huh?" He mused, withdrawing his lips from his mane to glance around the open meadows surrounding the two colts.

"What's there to do around here? Anything fun and exciting?" Sliding his friend a glance, Aiolos cocked his head to the side and watched with those inquisitive ruby orbs.

Althalus giggled as his own mangy red hair was chewed up, bits of ice and snow being removed by a blue muzzle. The little colt was wound up after a race, discovering his absolute bestest-best-friend-in-the-entire-universe, and taking a massive tangle in the snow. Could the day get any more exciting? The sunset male plum didn't think so! Oooooh, it had to be fate to meet the racing colt beside him; their names coincidently began with the same letter and they both knew how to run - - truly, their friendship was written in the stars.

Ah, what a day. And if this was the first of many adventures to come, Althalus couldn't possibly wait to see what lie waiting upon the horizon! Giving his coat a little shake as soon as the excess frozen debris was removed, he giggled at Aiolos, silver eyes bright. "You're right - we are invincible! No one will ever think to mess with us - not bears, or height, or gravity, or snow! Broken bones are way lame anyway!" And honestly, as far as the colt could tell, they were way too cool for injury.

Taking a trot around his swirled friend, the young, playful colt reached out to tug playfully upon his tail. Fur still in his mouth, he knit his brows and gave a snort, stamping the snow with his paw. "Ehunno. . ." He mumbled, words garbled in his mouth thanks to white hair. Spitting out the tail, nostrils flaring, the young colt canted his head before continuing, "You're the most excitin' thing I've seen in a long time. But there's always sliding on the pond and tryin' not to fall in. . . or climbing up the super-huge-gargantuan snow drifts near the mountains. And sometimes you can go 'splorin in the woods and caves hidden in the hills. . . ." The little sunshine male grinned, before leaping at his friend and playfully rearing back. "A lotta that stuff is good for one colt, but now that there's two of us I'm sure we'll have no trouble findin' some adventure!"

And they would because they were just that cool. In fact, in Althalus' idea world they wouldn't have to find adventure - adventure would find them.
