It's that time of year, and for a few of us here, we've finally managed to drudge our way through the hardship that was our last year of Secodary Education.

Congratulations and good luck to you all now.

I created this post for all graduates to discuss their respective marks, and possibly to enlighten us about your hopes and dreams for the future. Going on to Uni, taking a Tafe course, working in a job to earn you cold-hard cash? Spill all, and I'm sure some one will listen.

My own results for VCE.

VCAA
CH03 - Chemistry
GA 1: C+ not official
GA 2: A
GA 3: B+
Study Score: 32

EN01 - English
GA 1: A+ not official
GA 2: A+
GA 3: B+
Study Score: 36

HH03 - Health and Human Development
GA 1: A+ not official
GA 2: A+
GA 3: A+
Study Score: 43

HI13 - History (Revolutions)
GA 1: A not official
GA 2: A
GA 3: B
Study Score: 32

MA08 - Mathematical Methods
GA 1: B+ not official
GA 2: C+
GA 3: D+
Study Score: 28

I'm still waiting on my ENTER score though.

EDIT
VCAA
ENTER

Your 2004 ENTER is: 83.55
ENTER subject scores
Year of study VCE study

2004 English 34.82
2004 Health & Human Development 40.50
2004 Chemistry 37.05
2004 Mathematical Methods 34.09
2004 History:Revolutions 33.66

Your 2004 aggregate is: 149.8

These are the scaled marks for all my subjects. Notice the large jump of Methods from last to 4th... which is only one placing, but still!

Unfortunately, my best Subject HHD was scaled down due to it's intense simplicity though, so I was expecting that.

Well, it seems I may not get into my first preference for Uni, but of course I can just not accept any, go off work for a year and maybe try again later. That, or I could just decide to focus on Arts instead of the more difficult course of Arts/Science.

A 10 is worse than a 9, is that HSC? I'm pretty sure you live in Queensland, but I'm completely obliviouse about the scoring system.

Harsh has it sounds, what do you have as a back-up plan if you can't get into engeneering. Personally, I thought about just working for some money so I can travel like I've always wanted to. Beyond that though, I really have no clue what to do next, but I'm not going to think about that now.

yea im in queensland and a 10 is worse than a 9 sweatdrop i do actually have a back up course too, it's a really good one. i just want to get a one digit op, that's my aim because you can say 9 it sounds alright, but a 10 is like ookk. my parents and everyone at church will be better able to digest a 9 too sweatdrop i hate the pressure from everyone around me crying

So 1 is the best, where as 10 is the worst? It doesn't get any more accurate then that?

close 25 is the worst, although apprentally it's impossible to get a 25. do you know how our system works wellzy or would you like me to explain it?? because it probably makes more sense with the numbers and all xp

Now, just explain it to me.

Here everyone is given a ranking out of 100, which isn't their marks throughout the year, but a percentile compared to everyone else. 99.95 is the top makr anyone can get, which makes you the top of the whole year. 99.95% of all other students were bellow you.

ooo ok

well our system is very confusing, you get an op depending on how high your marks are, so basically to achieve an op of 1 you need to be the top of every subject you do, like the highest A. and it also depends on which type of subjects you do too, like specialist maths is weighted more than general maths (i think that's what you call them in vic) anyway so from these you get a rank, 400 being the best 200 being the worst. and if you get all 400s (meaning being all A++) then you have a chance of getting a 1. it also depends on how your school does on the qcs test, so if your grade does good on the test compared to other schools than you will get a better op than someone who got the same marks and ranks as you in a different school that did worse in the qcs test.

confused?? don't worry, half of Queensland is and they sat the test 3nodding

Oh not at all, it actually sounds a lot like what we do here, I just decided not to go into too much depth about the whole system. At the end of each term, the total mark of our SAC's (School Assesed Courswork) are compared with our Exam. They use the GAT (General Assesment Task) to assess your overall abilities in the areas of Arts, Science and English (it's a little more specific to some extent) to compare any discrepancies that come up between your SAC's and exams. This is to ensure that if a large number of people got good Exam marks, low SAC marks and were shown to have poor skills in that area, there end of year mark would be scaled down to compensate the ease of the exam. The transverse occure for subjects that get scaled up, and usually include the tougher subjects such as Methods, Chemistry and Physics, while General, English and Health all go down.

Did you enjoy that? Because each subject is ranked out of 50, your total for your 4 best subjects is added and standardised against all the sudents in the state, giving you the percentile, or the ENTER.

Enjoy. blaugh

Hmm, I've got a few years to go but I've read a bit about this stuff this year. 3nodding

VCE marks and stuff seems different to HSC, I don't know. gonk

Arts/Science seems cool, I'd probably be doing that. I think you need.. 85, 86 UAI/ENTER for that, in 2004, so good luck. whee

But wouldn't someone have to have the best mark? So that 100% of the year's below you? Or you're.. included in that.. >.>;;

And then if it's tied. x.x

People who get 99.95 are the top. Generally there are more than one person who gets a perfect score, so you can't technically put them as 0 because standard deviation (the method for calculating ENTER's) is infinite, and you'd need an infinite score to get 0. sweatdrop

Yep, I think I get you. gonk I know what you mean, anyhow.

The UAI here's different, people do get 100. I forgot how it was calculated, but. O_o
