The snow had finally come. It had fallen during the night as she'd slept, coating the ground in a soft, white blanket. She smiled brightly as she 'played' in the open clearing, kicking up clumps of snow as she did so. It was cold, yes, but the movement of her body kept her warm as did her high spirits.

Chikotae shook himself and flapped his wings some as he got to his feet. He was annoyed with the snow but then he was used to it from the mountains. The stallion had ventured down here to escape the chill of the mountains and perhaps try to find a reason to be around others, but so far nothing and none had given him any reason as to why he should not continue to isolate himself from the world aside from his adopted father.
Still while he was down here, he might as well visit the red stallion. He had no interest in visiting his adoptive mother. He was still angry that she had left his father for the dark stallion, the father of her foals. Chikotae felt anger and resentment about those issues and decided to dismiss the thoughts before he made himself angry and bitter once more.
As the stallion set forth to try and find Delano, his ears pricked as he caught sounds of what seemed to be another ...playing and happy with the snow? Interested and curious as to who could possibly be having fun in this wretched weather intruiged him and he silently moved closer to get a look at this other.....

She leaned down, poking her nose lightly into one of the larger drifts before shaking it off, watching the flakes shimmer as they fell back down to the ground. Winter, although cold, was beautiful... So very beautiful. She could only hope to be as lovely as the snow on a sunny winter day, radiating light and joy in its own way.
Her short tail twitched behind her as she turned around, pausing as he eyes lingered on a flash of color amongst the white of the snow and the black and brown of the trees. "Red..." She tilted her head slightly to the side. "Come out, come out... Hello?"

He watched as the strange two toned mare, seemed to enjoy and even seem to love playing in the snow...She sported a shirt mane and tail and seemed to almost be wearing a mask. What strange and unusual markings....and then,..she seemed to almost be looking right at him.
Chikotae drew his head back as he had been noticed and cursed under his breath. The only advantage he had in this chilly season and it was ruined by his bright red markings on his white coat. He took a step out into the open, flicking his long white tail.
Now what? she had seen him but what to do from here. "Yes...red....cursed red markings that do not seem to let me hide myself very well. " He spoke in sort of sarcastic tone, more at himself this time. He turned his cold stare upon her, waiting for her response.

"No..." Her brow furrowed slightly as she shook her head. "Not cursed. Far too pretty to be cursed... Red, like sunset and white like snow." She met his cold stare with a soft smile, perhaps too naive to note his sarcasm... Or maybe too intent on having someone else catch the joy that she felt.
"Red like the sunset and white like the snow... With the wings of a bird; more blessed than cursed."

Chikotae raised a brow at this very strange mare. "Well when one wants to hide and not be seen but cannot do so, then I would call that a curse..." He shook his head....was she that dim witted? or was she just too young and inexperienced to know the cruelities of the real world?
"Your parents must have sheltered you...my life has always been a curse." he memory stung. He always experienced a hatred of whoever his birth parents were, leaving him alone and lost in the world.
"Blessed?" Now he was annoyed.... "oh yes....blessed to have had parents leave me for dead shortly after being born...abandoned...oh yes what a blessed blessed life." He stepped forward, his eyes intensely meeting hers, "You might want to wake up and take a look at the real world sweetheart. Its not all butterflies and candy kisses."

"Parents..." Her brow furrowed as her eyes lowered for a moment. "No... No parents. A sister, but no parents. Abandoned..." Her own parents must have had no feelings for her; must not have wanted her... But she had never dwelled long on that thought. Agi had always been there, so had the two-leggers that had taken care of her. -They- had loved her, at least.
Her eyes lifted to meet his, stunned into silence for a moment by his harsh gaze. So cold, and yet... "You are blessed. No butterflies, no candy... But life. You live. You are here. You survived."

Chikotae stopped, his annoyed glare dropping for the moment. "Abandoned?" he simply asked. So she too had tasted the cruelty of being left to die, to fend for one's self and survive against all odds? "How can you have such a happy outlook on life, knowing they are out there somewhere. They left you to die, jsut as my parents left me to die."
He remembered how scary it was as a small foal, the strange sounds and shadows all around him..and then....then Delano found him. He had taken him in and cared for him...raised him as his own. The red stallion was all Chikotae had in this world. "At least you have a sister I suppose...I only have the red stallion that saved me and raised me as his own son. His lifemate abandoned him too after a while...." He dropped his head as hatred seethed throughout his body.
His eyes flitted open and he looked at this odd mare. "Yes..I survived. But that does not make me blessed. My life has been far from blessed with many hardships. Perhaps you are the one who is blessed out of the 2 of us." He could not understand what drove her, what made her so positive even in the face of the cruel reality of the world in which they lived.

"Maybe... Or maybe... Maybe I would not have lived had they kept me. The nights were cold and there was much snow when I came out of my basket... Maybe... Maybe I lived because of their abandonment." She had never really spent as much time talking about it as this... Had never spent as much time talking about anything really... But it seemed as if he needed this and maybe, deep down, she did too.
"I had my sister... And the two leggers..." There was also the Green Lady but she did not seem to like them at all. Perhaps she would have learned more about her own kind prior to meeting with Kat had things been different.
"Maybe... You have not yet seen the blessing. Maybe, because you survived and are now stronger, it will come to you... And you'll know."

Chikotae's eyes narrowed slightly. "Do you think you had a better chance at surviving in the cold and snow without them to keep you warm and protected? I doubt it. They should have left you with someone to care for you if they could not...same with my parents. and I hate them for it. " Cold harsh words, but in his mind they were the reality of things.
Oh he knew he had a deep sense of bitterness and hatred inside of him...but somehow he just could not let it go. He wanted to know why they had left him to die and he would never know. He would never know if he had siblings who may or may not have lived...he would never know a family....he would never know the closeness of those who loved him.
"Two leggers....useless beings I swear. they seem to be a waste of time really. " He flexed his wings to loosen up the muscles so they would not cramp. "And what blessing is this that you see that I do not? and how exactly would I know?...I wonder...will you see the world for what it really is? for the harsh cruelty it inflicts upon us? How can I ever be happy when I have never known anything of happiness or love or joy, or anything that seems to make you feel all warm and fuzzy?"
He knew he was being a jackass, but that was his nature. He spoke the truth as he saw it.

"But... Someone did find me, just as someone found you. Someone did keep me warm and safe." She and her sister had kept warm within a little teepee of their own. They were both too large for it now... But the memories were still there.
Useless. Her brow furrowed as she shook her head in disagreement. "They saved me..." That had to count for something. As odd as her life had been, the two natives had saved and cared for she and her sister. They had given them a life they might not have had otherwise.
"How can you not want to find joy? How can you live thinking only of the bad?" She didn't understand that at all. How could something so beautiful house such dark bitterness. "Someone should show you that there is light..."

Chikotae could only shake his head in disbelief really. "We were lucky is all, that some kind soul found us and took us in instead of leaving us there to fend for ourselves and potentially wind up dead. " He had known Delano's kindness and the red stallion had tried his best to school Chikotae in his noble ways...but in the end Chikotae had decided that his adoptive father was a dreamer...a stallion who still lived in the days of old when their kind was noble and ran free...when those who would abandon their young were few and far between.
He shot her a glare when she said it was humans that had saved her. "They saved you? and did not enslave you as they tend to do to any of our kind they capture? Wretched beings they are. They have proven no use and to have no good intentions as far as I have seen. " Chikotae disliked humans. He would tolerate them if he must but he would never let one touch him let alone ride him or put things on him as he had seen on others. They were nothing more then mere pets with no pride and no will or freedom.
His eyes saddened slightly at her next question. "Its not that I do not want joy in my life....all joy was taken from me the day I was left. I only have him and he has a family of his own now...he doesn't need me around really. I have no family..I have...no one." He looked away from her. "How can you only think of the good without wondering why the bad things happened? and who would so kindly show me light? you? " He turned to face her again with a questioning expression. "You who knows no darkness? You are naive...you should learn there is darkness..there is cruelty and bitterness in this world and you should watch out for it and fear it. Or you'll get yourself killed one of these days. "

"No. I come and go as I please, as do the others. They watch us and help us. They wouldn't keep us." Her brow furrowed as she shook her head. The woman and man both seemed to want to take care of them and make sure that they were well. From time to time they gave them treats; sweet apples and rich grains... Other times they brushed their coats. They were... Friends. "Maybe others would... But not the ones who cared for me."
"How can you think of only the bad without wondering when the good will come? I know darkness." She had seen it. She had heard stories about it. Skinwalkers. Her sister had met one. She knew that there were bad things... But she also knew that there were good. She had to believe that. "Without darkness we couldn't see the light of the stars... If bad things didn't happen the good wouldn't matter."

Chikotae raised his head, raising a foreleg in thought as he reviewed what she had said. They don't keep them and they come and go as they please? The two leggers she described was unlike anything he had heard or seen of their species and so he was almost intruiged to meet these two leggers of hers. "They do not try to claim you or force you do what they want in any way?" He tilted his head now as he lowered his raised foreleg. "They help you?"
He snorted at her next words. "I tried to think of the good and while the one who took care of me tried to raise me in happiness, that is impossible when hatred surrounded us with his mate, and the foals she bore from another stallion. The b*****d ripped apart what they...he ruined their love and it broke Delano's heart." He stomped a hoof angrily. When he was a foal he wanted to be strong like Rahu...but now he hated Rahu...the dark stallion had caused so much strife. " But he has found someone better now." His looked at her, his dark red eyes showing no emotion. "I have not found any good. none has come to me. no light has shone in my life. only the cold hardships the darkness plagues me with."
He shook his head once more. "You are a strange little mare...the good matters of course, but it only matters to those it decides to favor. The light has indeed abandoned me as my parents did." The stallion moved a little closer now, sure that she would not be of any threat to him, he felt slightly at ease in her presence but he still kept his guard up. "Show me good in my life and then maybe I might believe in it"

"They kept me safe and saw that I was warm and fed... And now they smile when I visit." Never had they tried to keep her restrained in any way... The only time they had done that to any Soquili had been with the spirited brown mare and, even then, it seemed to be just because they were worried that she might harm herself or the foals that she was carrying.
"Why do you harbor anger if he has found happiness with someone better?" Her head tilted to the side as she tried to understand his frustration. If the darkness of the past could be put behind one... Why could another not forget about it? "Maybe... You will find someone to brighten your darkness then. A light? Or perhaps a flame... Fires burn brightly in the night."
She paused for a second to think on his words before looking up to the sky. "The sun. It breaks through the clouds and brings hints of spring with it... Spring is good and it becomes a part of your life when it brings green grasses and red apples. Company is good... Finding someone to talk to?"
