The pond was only an hours walk from his house, but by the time he got there several groups of people were already on the ice. Not surprising considering it was heading towards late afternoon, but the penicillian kid was a bit perturbed anyway. He had hoped to have the large pond, almost lake, to himself. Still he flopped down on the trampled snow and began to put on his skates. They were old and battered once belonging to his dad but they made him fly and that was all that counted.
Gingerly he crept to the ice and pushed off.

Luna gingerly stepped up to the edge of the ice and reached a toe out to tap at the frozen waters. It really was solid. She had managed to get away from both older sister and mother for a bit by slipping away when they were shopping, or rather, her mother shopping and her sister carrying. She gawked at all the people out on the ice and wondered how they managed to not fall down. Maybe it was because they had daggers strapped to their feet?
Hmmm... Maybe she should get her own set, but where could she get some? She was soon distracted by a familar sense. Maybe... maybe...
A scroll kid was out there on the ice? Oh no, no no, she was not following them out there.

A familar feeling stole over Alair and he nearly tripped over his own feet. Halycon was here! A broad grin streached itself across the boy's face as he tried to smoothly turn. He did turn in the end, even if wasn't exactly what you'd call smooth.
A deep red flush started to stain his cheeks, what if the teen had been watching? What if Halycon thought he was uncool or something? Quickly Alair scanned the skaters and watcher's, hunting for the crystal boy. The flush slowly faded as he realized his hero wasn't there.
But-- If Halycon wasn't here, then why did he feel that funny feeling? Slowly Alair began to circle the edge of the ice. He began to slow as it felt stronger, until he came to a stop a few feet away from Luna.

((... *smacks forehead* You know, they did meet at the birthday party, so they should know one another already... ;>> *just thought of that* ... Maybe they just forgot one another? Alair has grown since.))
Luna blinked as a green kid skated near her. Was that feeling come from... him?
Come to think of it, he looked vaguely familar, although she couldn't place him. Hmm. Maybe the familar part was just because he was a scroll kid like her. "Erm... Hello?" she said shyly, attempting to get his attention. It seemed like he was looking for someone, and it wasn't orginally her.

((That's right! They did, I had forgotten all about it. Well, at least Alair should look completely different!))
"Hi!" Alair waved right back, skating over closer to Luna so the shore was the only thing really seperating them. "Are you a scroll kid? You feel like Halycon so I thought he'd be here but he's not so are you the person that feels familar?" He blurted it all out, not particularly phased by a random person saying hello.

((Yeah, but Luna has remained the same, so if either of them would have recognized the other, it'd be Alair recognizing Luna...))
Luna jerked back at the sudden blurt, not actually expecting to be noticed, and wobbled - nearly falling down on the snow - before becoming balanced again. She blushed as she finally answered, "Hi. Yes, I'm a scroll kid. No, I am not Halcyon, but my sister knows him. And it's likely that I am the one that feels familar." She paused to tip her head to one side and stare at him for a moment. "You feel familar too. And not just because you are a scroll kid... Have me actually met before? In this lifetime?" He just felt more familar than that one other scroll kid she met - he had felt familar too, but not this familar...

((True))
Alair nodded thoughtfully. "I dunno..." He narrowed his eyes at her and skated back and forth a bit. "You kinda look like the girl from the party but she was a lot taller." He shrugged not really that concerned. "You wanna come skating?"

A thought of frustrated annoyance flashed through Luna's mind. There was no way she could have gotten shorter! Ah well, that just proved they hadn't met before. She was soon distracted by a more pressing matter. Alarai was asking her if she wanted to come skating. "Oh no. No no. I wouldn't want to-couldn't be aburdentoyou..." Eh? What did she just say? That wasn't how it was worded in her mind. She also didn't plan on speeding up as she talked until the words ran together. Even so, she glanced around Alair to the other skaters. Some of them seemed rather... graceful...
Not that she could do anything like that... Sigh...

The boy just looked confused for a second, before deciding to ignore Luna's protest altogether. After all, skating was fun and there couldn't possibly be someone who would pass it up. Unfortunately he didn't really have a second pair of skates.
Alair plopped down on the ice where he had been standing, careful not to touch the ice directly. He had found out the hard way that the liquid he was always oozing did freeze to the ice and it hurt to get off. True it took a little while to freeze but... "I don't really have any other skates but I can put on my sneakers, that's whats nice about skating on a pond instead of a rink. You don't have to stick to just skates. So you can borrow my skates and I'll just slip around on my shoes, 'cause I already skated for a little bit." He grinned at the girl, adjusting his scarf.
Finally he got the laces of one skate untied. With a careless toss, he chunked the bladed shoe at Luna. "Here's the first one! You better make sure it's really tight. My daddy said that if it's not you could break an ankle and have to have a cast and not be able to skate for an entire month!" Alair grimaced. "By then the pond might not even have ice so make sure it's tight."
Bit by bit he worked at his other skate, silent as he focused on the knot.

eek Luna let out a small, rather muffled yelp as she threw herself aside to dodge the blade, having decided she wouldn't be able to catch it without hurting herself. Jeeze, watch how you throw stuff like that! she grumbled to herself as she picked herself up off the snow, dusted herself off, and went to retrieve the skate. She stared at the skate for a long moment before sighing and plopping down on the snow bank to put the skate on. She wrestled with her boots for a moment before finally pulling one off. She shoved her stockinged foot into the skate and wiggled her toes before setting herself to the task of getting the laces tight enough so she could tie them them without her foot sliding around in the shoe.

Alair finally got the other skate off and slipped/walked over to Luna. "Here you go! I'll be right back, I've got to go get my shoes," the penicillian scroll said pointing to a little farther down the pond. "Guess I should have gotten then first."
Adept with skates the boy might be, but in just his stockinged feet Alair went skidding all over the place.

Luna took the other skate from Alair before he started to slip and slide off. Well, if she could wear his skates, couldn't he have worn her boots? She shrugged to herself before yanking her other boot off and start to struggle to get the skate on. Foot in, pull laces tight, make sure foot is firmly in place, pull on laces some more, tie laces really quickly before they get some slack, wiggle toes as you admire the skate on your foot...
sweatdrop Anyways.
Luna tried to get to her feet, but the moment the blades touched the ice, down she went. Owwww... She scooted backwards some until she was certain there was only snow within reach and tried to stand again. She wobbled as she had to deal with the fact all her weight was on two thip strips then half-bent, half-squatted to grab her boots before carefully standing straight again.
...
Um... Now how was she to move without falling? She stood there rather helplessly as she waited for Alair to get back.
((Dang. Alarai and Alair are so close to the same, more since some of my fingers are faster than others and get their letter in ahead of where it should be... xp ))

((Lol, I noticed some of the typos))
By the time Alair got back, small shivers were running through him. Still he perked up at Luna, already on the ice. "Ready?" he asked, taking a few steps farther into the ice. A slip nearly turned into a tumble, but Alair caught himself before he dove face first into the ice.
Turning around to face Luna he frowned, waiting for her to follow.

Luna twitched. "Uh, no. Not ready. How do you even move in these things without falling??!" She flailed some as a minor shift caused her to nearly lose her balance again.
And she wasn't even on the ice yet.
"Ummm... What should I do with my boots in the meantime?" She cautiously wiggled the boots in her one hand as she asked. Standing was hard enough. She didn't want to try skating with boots in one hand.

Alair blinked. "Just leave them there," face reflecting a slight confusion. Wasn't it obvious? The boy shrugged and swiped at his face before grinning and carefully stomping over.
"You've got to be careful not to walk. I mean, you can, and people do but it's really easy to slip like that in skates. It's easy to slip like that in boots too but I guess it's a lot easier if your in skates." Alair took a deep breath and held out his hand.
"You've got to kinda glide and push diagonally with your feet. C'mon, I'll help you," he smiled at the other girl.
