We've had several threads featuring the Mateba Auto-revolver in one way or another. Pluses and minuses. Pluses: Interesting design, big caliber revolver. Minuses: No real choices of calibers below .357 magnum (recoil energy required to make the mechanism function). Very expensive to buy and the company is out of business (which means if parts break, you're on your own). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mateba_Autorevolver

I think it looks cool and Togusa from Ghost in the Shell uses one, but I don't think I'd buy one. It's just not enough of an advance on the revolver to merit its existance. And it takes away from what a revolver is supposed to be. Revolvers are notoriously reliable and can take from the most powerful rounds the frame can handle to low-loaded .cartridges for practice without problem.
Buy a Smith & Wesson 686 in stead. Or some kind of Taurus. Or a Ruger. You can't go wrong. They'll be cheaper and more reliable and easier to maintain.

It'd be a good novelty or collectors weapon, which I'm thinking is about it's main point.
And Terr, you can't really tell him to get another gun when he wants one and he wants it for a specific purpose like this.
