Going for a mage like a black, red or white mage usually helps cause then you can sub them and have lots of spell power.

most that is acceptable is white mage, if you do blm before lvl 30 people wont invite you cause they need a healer smn more then a nuker. my smn is a smn/whm, i had tried summoner with blm with my mithra an people looked at me extremly funny...
So when i made my taru i made it so her main job was whm an her sub blm till she hit lvl 30 to unlock it so my sub would be lvl 30 (wont have to level whm again will smn is lvl 60 hehe).

I've seen WHM and BLM (though more WHM, but BLM works just as well from what I've seen in my pts)...it just depends on what you're going for, I haven't seen RDM subbed for much of anything though, so I don't know how that would work.

i like blm mages more than whm cuz you can use more offensive attacks
but i wanna be a pretty good smn so is there any good attack with whm?

Once, you get Smn as main you dont need any DD spells at all. Your Avatars will be buffing the PT with various effects like stoneskin, +stats, ice spikes and many more. And they all have their own set of special attacks that can inflict some serious dmg on monsters. All these things cost alot of mp though. So you want a sub that gives you a large mp buff...and there goes rdm.
Left with blm and whm to sub, the second request on the list pops up. Healing! everyone likes to have some back up healing in a party if things turn bad, and as your avatars will do more then enough dmg...blm goes to waste aswell.
Your now left with a Smn/Whm, you can buff, heal and do dmg, what more could you and your PT ask for? Thats why most ppl use the Whm as sub for Smn, cous it gives the best of two worlds.

Anyone who said BLM is an acceptable sub for SMN is either dumb, or delusional.
WHM is the only viable sub for SMN. All other subs are a waste of time and laughable.

i chose smn and for the first 15 lvls i used whm after i used my rdm which has been my main since the begining its awsome as a sub u can help heal or nuke its like a smn with both black and white subed i like it but i think when i get my smn to lvl 25 i am gonna continue my rdm lvling i still like rdm biggrin
even though rdm isnt as good as a sub as whm i will use it anyway cuz my whm is not that high of a lvl

All other subs are a waste of time and laughable. not entirelly true i myself have a tiny taru on Cerberus that's SMN/RDM while i don't have the Massive MP boost WHM gives, i can summon my avatars quicker, and pop a Cure II quicker than any WHM can. it all depends on how you play it

True, you may play RDM sub well...anyone can play a job with a crappy sub well, but it doesn't mean it is better than another combo.
