Its interesting...up until recently, people often envisioned the future as having much the same as what they had, except that it just did things a lot better, or did more with the same technology that they had, without ever thinking of new functions entirely, unlike that after the 50s what with force fields and warp drives and so forth.

That barber-thing they've got there is intensely terrifying. If one of those achieved sentience we'd have a quite ghastly b-movie plot on our hands as it ran about slicing off ear-tips.

Haha! I like the one where they put the books into the (grinding?) machine, and the information enters into their heads.

You've got to love them. xD
What I find most interesting is where they get some things half-right; such as guessing we'd have robots to build things (although admittedly not buildings) - but having no understanding of how they work. But, if they did, surely they would already have been invented!

It really is cool how close some of these are! *goes in order*
Le train électrique Paris Pékin Okay, an electric train. We have those. The wheels aren't that bizarre, but it's very close. We even have trains running on MAGNETS, now!
Chantier de construction électrique Robot construction workers. Not too far off. Isn't that what ASIMO was designed for? To help on the construction site? On the other hand, we also have cranes which are very similar to this.
Auto-Patins à Roues I'd assume battery-powered skates. I guess if you blended RC cars with rollerskates, that could be very very possible.
Missive phonographique I couldn't gather what they were doing here, and neither my French classes nor BabelFish helped very much. I'd assume they're recording phonograph records with some special technology. CDs would work equally well, no?
Le Barbier nouveau Jeu I'm hoping Asimov's laws are in effect in this pic, 'cuz that's scary.
Madame à sa Toilette Robo-preparations for the lady's day? Scary as the barber.
Un Dîner chimique Seems like those fancy sci-fi "Just Add Water" dinner-in-a-pill meals. Technically, we CAN have pill meals, most of us just don't CHOOSE to.
You can live on vitamins and protein pills, but your stomach eats itself after a while of non-use.
Eclaireurs cyclistes Motorcyclists. What more? whee
À l'École Okay, I'm assuming these students are listening to something on tape. At least, I hope so, because we're still working on telepathy machines, and that's just scary if it was one.
Correspondance Cinéma - Phono - Télégraphique What I'm seeing: A Video Phone. ********, with the technology on computers involving a webcam and a good mic, we're pretty much THERE. whee
Parlez au Concierge I'd assume it's a robotic caretaker, or something... that's all I could gather. Though it seems to be pointing to an elevator. sweatdrop
Wait... OMG, are those FLYING CARS? I demand a flying car! scream
Automobiles de Guerre Tank, weapon-mounted Humvee, take your pick. whee
Are these things seriously from 1910? Because that's some pretty sweet accuracy.
...I still want my flying car. stare
EDIT: Holy crap, there's more... *will hafta do those at a later date*

Didn't feel like waiting. PART 2! whee
Audition du Journal This doesn't seem very different from me speaking into my little voice recorder, though I can later upload what I've said onto my computer, to then send from me to a friend.
Une Curiosité Are they assuming horses would be near-extinct by now? If so, then some of these are a bit hit-and-miss... sweatdrop
Chauffage au Radium I'd assume this should be a radiator... though we have full-on every-room-in-the-damn-house heating and air. whee
Un tailleur dernier Genre Machines making CLOTHING! How absurd! Oh, wait... they do. Them and little foreign children.
Aéronat au long cours An AIRSHIP! Where's Cid!?
(Obviously a blimp or zeppelin. But so much cooler.)
Une Fête des Fleurs I have no ******** clue what they're doing. But motored planes? Sweet. heart
Les Pompiers aériens Though not as very strange fairies, firefighters DO have the ability to fly over the blazing infernos and dump down materials to douse the flames.
L'avenue de l'Opéra ...Seriously, I want my ******** flying car. stare
Un Sauvetage Well, we don't use planes to rescue people at sea, but we do have HELICOPTERS at the ready! whee
L'Agent Aviateur ...Seriously, anything of people with wings just looks gay.
Sentinelle avancée en Hélicoptère Hooray, they finally give recognition to the all-purpose helicopter! whee
Le Coup de l' Etrier Can you imagine DRIVE-THRU WINDOWS if we got some damn FLYING CARS? heart
Seriously, science should be working on those. Screw cancer, I want to FLY to the hospital! gonk

I think "Missive phonographique" is showing someone being delivered an audio telegram engraved on a phonographic cylinder.
"Audition du Journal" isn't someone recording, it's someone playing back. These people are listening to a newspaper.
As for "Une Curiosité" I'd say it's almost accurate. I mean, how many kids these days have not even been up close to a horse in person, let alone own one? A pony ride is something you hire for children's birthday parties, not something you use to get to work every day.
"Chauffage au Radium"... My god. They've got a chunk of radium, a little piece of radioactive material, in their fireplace. Exposed, and supposedly heating their room. But, considering they were using radium-laced paint to make glow-in-the-dark watch faces mere decades ago, the idea wouldn't be so far-fetched in the realm of Victorian scientific knowledge.

Mylian I think "Missive phonographique" is showing someone being delivered an audio telegram engraved on a phonographic cylinder. Ohhh... so it's like a voicemail? sweatdrop Quote: "Audition du Journal" isn't someone recording, it's someone playing back. These people are listening to a newspaper. So... that'd work like the radio, then. o.o Quote: As for "Une Curiosité" I'd say it's almost accurate. A pony ride is something you hire for children's birthday parties, not something you use to get to work every day. True, but we still don't see them as a curiosity. (Then again, maybe we do...) True... though nowadays it would be unthinkable. We have halogen lights for that now. sweatdrop
