Arden, Lana, and Katrina on Drxisisliege flew south east, a nearly direct route to the Feretris exiles. The information that they had from the dragon world was not complete, as there was some confusion about geography of the human world. However, with Harlan's help, they had been able to figure out that they should first parallel the mountains south east and then fly directly east to scout the lands south of Feretris proper. Feretris had a nasty habit of conquering new lands without telling any one, and so their southern border was especially fluid. In an earlier encounter, other dragons had been shot when flying over Feretris, and one had even died, so it was best to steer clear as much as possible.
The journey would take them more than a day's flight, and so they would have to chose where to spend the night. One choice might be the valley that Cedric had brought the young dragons too. Or they might rest in the mountains, or try to push further south and rest at the southern end of the mountain range.
(They can meet PCs at either place)

(The two people switched with their bonded. Arden is Theddryn and Lana is Rhy'delle.) Karina felt the great wings of her bonded dragon beat at the air. Beneath them, the earth zipped by, the huge mountains between Tok and Feretris that they had begun flying over at noon already giving way not a few hours later, a journey that was more than a tenday on foot, if it was possible at all.
The dragons on either side kept stroke for stroke with the young dragon. Indeed their ancient forms could probably endure this flight longer than Drxisisliege's young body. Dragons did not age as human's did. As they came closer to the area they had been told to look for the refugees, Katrina gave the mental signal to find a place to land. ITs getting dark. We won't find anyone at night unless the light a fire. I doubt they will do that if they are fleeing Feretris. Katrina thought to the trio of dragons through Drxisisliege. The fear of enslavement nd oprression will do that to you. Rhy'delle said dryly. Drxisisliege shot her a look, but any confrontation was broken by Theddryn. Land there. A mental picture acompanied the terse direction. The three dragons banked and headed for the large open space on the edge of a forest. They would make camp there and do a thourough search in the day, when the runaways would be most likely to be on the move.

There was little energy left for scouting of any sort that night. They relied on the dragons' long-reaching sense of smell and keen eyesight, though their eyesight was made for the day time just like humans. There was nothing to tell them of any danger before they lay down for the night. Theddryn was able to drape a simple intruder-detection spell around their immediate vicinity. It wasn't his dragon's specialty, but it was better than nothing.
It wasn't the spell that woke them, however, but the distinctive smell of dead dragon. The smell was very faint, carried by a small group of humans that, oblivious, approached their camp. They trudged like refugees, but the group was not large enough to be what they were looking for.

The dragons were roused and Katrina felt small standing in front of three large dragons, the smallest of which was her own, and Drxisisliege was no small dragon for her age. As she realized this group was too small, she silently cursed herself for thinking it would be that easy. Either way, she had to deal with them, esspecially since because of the smell that the dragons had detected. Katrina summoned a part of Drxisisliege's magic, twisting the power to let her see the unseen, in this case it was literal. Her eyes glowed faintly as the magic pierced the veil of the night. Her own magic ready at her finger tips. "I would know your names, travellers, for I am wary of those who travel by night." Katrina called when they were close enough to hear.
(how many times can i use "small" in a post -_-; )

Tesunie followed the group as they walk into the night. The sight of yet another death haunted him again. Once again there was nothing he could do to prevent it. Once again he was useless.
He didn't bother to look up. He just stared at the ground, watching where he feet where going.

"Lilith, Hariim*, Tesunie, and Isaac**," Lilith responded promptly. She had no reason to deny the stranger, and wasn't feeling spunky or spiteful. She didn't have the heart to travel any longer, but had ordered the group forward because she could not stand the site of the dead dragon either. "We are from various places, and our story is long. Now your names," she responded evenly.
Then she struck a match into a lantern, and gasped. Dragons! "What is your business here?" she demanded. "Your kind are not prone to wandering about directionless, least not at your age."

Katrina blinked as the lantern flared to life, the magic in her eyes ceasing as it was no longer needed. She felt for the small group, particularly the one in the rear with his head hung and dejected. But that did not prove they were harmless.
"My name is Katrina. And our business may be revealed in time, but all you need to know now is that I have come from Tok and intend to return to its borders once our business is done." Cedric's strong physical traits hid the hints of a feretrian bloodline.
"You will have to excuse me if I am not forthcoming. You see I find it hard to be revealing around those who, as I am told, smell of dead dragons." Theddryn snorted, as if for effect. The three towering forms must have been quite intimidating as they stretched up above the light of the lantern. "However, seeing as you have not run screaming from my companions, you have gained my interest. Would you mind telling me how you have come to know about dragons?"

At the mention of the dragon, now dead, Tesunie's heart dropped even lower. He felt even more useless now. How was it that these people knew of that event anyway? How could they smell it?
Tesunie raised his head for the first time, now seeing the group in front of himself and the group. There were dragons. Others like Tony, the only name the dragon said. His eyes started to well up with tears once again as his thoughts returned to the dragon saving his people. No. Him.
His eyes quickly darted back to the ground as he tried to hide his tears. Men shouldn't cry. It showed weakness. Then again, he wasn't a man yet, but only a boy. A useless child.

Lilith thrust the lantern and her head higher. "We travel to your lands on our own business." Her own features were the dark bronze tan of the tribes people. "We were being led by one of your people, but he has died from injuries sustained in a heroic battle. We have lost many friends and find ourselves surrounded by enemies."
She, of course, didn't have the chance to notice Tesunie behind her. Hariim, however, was standing beside him and put a hand on his shoulder. Although she was from the plains as well and had come to their group solely to heal Tony, she did not openly object to being included in Lilith's plans. It was probable that Tony had been the first dragon she had ever seen and that she wished to remain connected to people who knew about such things.

Tesunie took the hand on his shoulder without complaint. He was too welled up in his own thoughts and emotions to care about it. He would follow her lead, making it so he didn't have to look up and confront the dragons, and the memories of Tony's death. He fought with the tears that threatened to spill out of his eyes. He wished not to be known as the one that cries all the time.

There was an awkward pause as the too strong-willed and guarded leaders faced each other. The dragons were of no help here. You couldn't smell the truth and Drxisisliege's magic wasn't strong enough. Back in Feretris, she probably could have lashed out with her natural magic and tortured the truth out of them, if she had been that kind of woman. But she wasn't, and her time in Tok had only made her softer. Besides, others had magic of their own...
If their enemies have killed a dragon, then they will attack us as well, Katrina thought to Drxisisliege, who passed the message on to the other dragons. If we do not invite them to pass the night with us, we can at least discover the identity of these enemies and be on guard for them. She suggested. "If you were being led by a dragon bonded, you have nothing to fear from us. However, you must realize how disconcerting it is to know one of our kind has been killed in this world so soon after their appearance. It does not bode well for the future." Katrina flipped her hair from her eyes. "You are travelling at night. Is there danger not far behind?" She asked pointedly.

"No," Lilith replied painfully. "But we could not stay with the carcass. How do you bury such a thing? There was nothing we could think to do. Please understand. We mean no disrespect. He was a good friend of mine, and I would be honored to tell you his story and how he died." Lilith hoped fervently that these strangers would believe her and look on her as a potential friend or, at least, not an enemy. As the leader of their small group, she could not stand the idea of getting her group mates in trouble, especially one as young as Tesunie.

When she recieved no complaint from the dragons, Katrina nodded. "Sit then, and rest while you recount those events. You all must be tired from walking. We have not made much of a camp, but our clearing is your clearing." Katrina said. The dragons shifted their bulk to the outer edge of the small space, allowing the humans freedom to move between them. Katrina sat close to Drxisisliege and waited for Lilith to make sure her company got settled in.

Lilith ordered her company around with the tone of a mother, but the firmness of a general. Tesunie was seated right up against Lana's green scales, with the Kiyap woman tending to him and convincing him to sleep. The dragon's body heat radiated comfortably into the circle.* Lilith, however, was not content to rest immediately. They were literally surrounded by possible allies, and strong ones.
Lilith cleared her throat before addressing Katrina. "Are you also a dragon, as Tony was?" It was not the most important question on her mind, but it was the one that seemed the friendliest. She also wanted to know if Katrina knew where Cedric's valley was, which Lilith knew only as the "dragon valley." And, of course, she wished to know where three dragons and a human were going.
As for Lana and Arden, their dragon halves were quiet, generally accepting the idea that Katrina would know best how to handle her own kind. As for their part, they could easily snap these humans in half if they turned out to be enemies of some sort, not that they necessarily liked doing that sort of thing.
(Yes, these dragons are at least part warmblooded, like dinos razz )

(Lana and Arden are the humans, female and male respectively.)
"I am bonded, if that is what you are asking. Drxisisliege is my dragon." Katrina explained, stroking Drxisisliege's scales as she said the dragon's name. Katrina did not take her eyes from the woman. "It would take some time to properly explain." That, and Katrina wanted to listen more than talk, still a bit doubtful of these travelers, but willing to give them the benefit of that doubt.
