Can I tell you, when I read the title I was thinking of actual Christmas stories.
And I was all 'You know the one with the couple, and the woman's hair.. and the guy's watch... and they sold it for each other's presents! I mean when I read it when I was younger I thought it was such a waste! But then now I think it was so sweet and romantic!'
So this was such a bummer... lol.
Favourite Christmases.. I... I really don't know. Probably when my mother loved me enough to go on the roof to put up the pepper lights. I remember when I was younger and thought it was so funny to watch... whee
I wanna hear the one about the hair and the watch!! *pulls up a pillow and sits on it with a cup of cocoa with WHIPPED CREAM!!!* Tell, tell!!!! Wanna story!!

Frogsnack Hey all!! Does anyone have a favorite story from Christmas that they can share? Lesse.... my favorite has to be ANY year when the cat atacked teh tree and brought it to its knees.... XP HAHAHAHA .... I have to say that those years rank right up there for me too!!! Especially Tiger taking a flying leap from the stairs right into the tree!!! Of course, then there was always the times before tinsel was banned in our home that she would EAT it and walk around with it hanging out of her butt!!! rolleyes rofl rofl rofl From my own home growing up, one of my favorites was the way AS SOON AS the tree was put up, my best friend, my little miniature apricot champagne poodle - Puddy would lay under it, with her front paws tucked underneath her, looking completely like a little Christmas lamb. She was SO precious!! We can make this a thread of OUR stories, as well as ones that touch us!! I don't remember the story completely, but there is a reason why there are red stripes on candy canes. The maker was a confectionist (candy-maker) who wanted to make a candy that represented Jesus. It's actually in the form of a J, the original ones had a large red stripes and three small ones, I believe the one large one representing His death for us, and the three small ones representing the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. (I personally like the all-white vanilla ones best! heart ) I have a couple more to share after other people share, but I just have to say, that my favorite story from before my time in my family was one my grandmother (my Baba) shared. She said one year at Christmas they were poorer than usual in Slovakia, and had little food. A stranger came to the door hungry. Although they didn't have much for themselves, they fed him. When my grandmother and her mother went into the kitchen after the meal, he left without saying goodbye. And as they cleared the table, they found he had left money (I believe it was gold coins) under the tablecloth. I still cry over that one, and my Baba would always tell me, don't ever turn a stranger away, because she was convinced that he was an angel and she said you never know when an angel would come to your door. Which is also scriptural.

And nowadays we're lame and hardly decorate... xp But the cat eating the tinsel thing...that is just pure genius... xD Wow... I never knew that about the candy cane.. eek That's so cool! mrgreen Jesus candy! And that's always so true. You never know when you're ministering to an angel and Daddy's waiting for an opportunity to bless you for your obedience to His word.

I have to say that I really didn't decorate either. Okay, Ima just gonna come clean and say (if people haven't caught this earlier) that I'm Frog's mom. xd hee hee ... and it really IS her fault that I'm on here!! I managed to put up a TINY tree and stick a big bow and ribbon on the door when Frog and her fiance walked in .... sweatdrop .... and being that Frog has 'blessed' me with her itty bitty kitty, Kitsune .... who is a tiny, though cute! little terror ..... Kitsune has brought that tree to it's knees everyday since I've put it up .... and sometimes more than a few times in one day LOL ... goofball!
Yeah, I miss Puddy. Her eyes would get all sparkly when she'd see the decorations on the tree .... 'course, much like all the cats we've had then and now .... I suspect that a lot of that was excitement over when she'd be able to grab it off the tree and run with it!! ( xd we had a crabapple tree out back when I had her ... and she used to grab them off the tree and run into the house with them! She'd play with them for a few days, finally bite into one (they're VERY bitter!) and would abandon it. whee even though we cleaned all the time, when we moved we found lots of them under almost everything! rofl rofl rofl
Tiger would STILL be eating tinsel if I hadn't banned it! I got her a small ball covered in short tinsel for Christmas and she got all excited ..... rofl .... she hasn't been able to get any off of it!

Also .... my blind cat Kitkat, who really LOVED grabbing all the ornaments off the tree last year was a bit disappointed to find I didn't put any on this year! Just 2 small strands of garland .... heh ... I'll defeat their attempts to destroy christmas trees yet!! mrgreen

Animals are great. They see the tree and they're like "Oooo .... new thing .... must destroy!!!"

Well, I think that this couple is really poor and they want to buy christmas gifts for eachother, but they have no money. So the girl sells her favorite purse to buy the guy a watch, and the guy sells his favorite watch to buy her a purse. So when they open them, they both have what they really wanted. I think....

Angelic-Sargeant Well, I think that this couple is really poor and they want to buy christmas gifts for eachother, but they have no money. So the girl sells her favorite purse to buy the guy a watch, and the guy sells his favorite watch to buy her a purse. So when they open them, they both have what they really wanted. I think.... I know a more sacrificial story about Delia and Jim Young. "Delia is the wife of Jim Young. As the story opens, she is counting the money that she has saved to buy her husband his Christmas present, and she is reduced to tears when she realizes how little she has. Delia and Jim are poor; she has only managed to scrape together $1.87, despite saving carefully for months. But O. Henry makes Delia’s happiness in her love for Jim quite clear: “Many a happy hour she had spent planning for something nice for him. Something fine and rare and sterling — something just a little bit near to being worthy of the honour of being owned by Jim.” She is a pretty, slender young woman. Her long brown hair, when she lets it down, cascades past her knees. Delia’s beautiful hair would be envied by the Queen of Sheba herself. In a moment of resourcefulness and courage, Delia decides to sell her hair so that she can buy a present for her beloved Jim. With the money from her hair, she buys Jim a beautiful watch chain elegant enough to complement his gold heirloom watch — their only other material possession of any worth. Later that day, while waiting for Jim to return home from work, Delia experiences a moment of insecurity. Though she has curled what is left of her hair as attractively as she can, she worries that Jim might no longer find her beautiful. . Delia’s husband, Jim, is a thin, serious young man, twenty-two years old. He works hard, not returning home until seven o‘clock, and is reliable: “Jim was never late.” Jim’s most prized possession is the gold watch that has been handed down to him from his grandfather and his father. King Solomon himself would have envied Jim’s watch. But Jim clearly values his young wife more than his gold watch, because he sells it in order to buy her a set of beautiful, jewel-edged tortoiseshell combs for her long hair. When Jim arrives home and appears stunned by his wife's appearance, Delia again shows unselfishness, courage, and resilience, reminding him that her hair grows quickly and that she loves him. She entreats him to be happy, for it is Christmas eve, and she has sold her hair because she could not face Christmas without a gift for him When the couple discover that both have sold their treasures to buy a wonderful present — and in the process, made those presents useless — Jim reacts with gentle humor and the same kind of resilience Delia has shown. First he affirms his love, telling her, “I don’t think there’s anything in the way of a haircut or a shave or a shampoo that could make me like my girl any less.” In the end, rather than bemoaning their situation, he smiles and suggests, “Let’s put our presents away and keep ’em awhile. They’re too nice to use just at present.”" Bitter sweet I guess.
