Bem loved the nighttime. Things were quiet, the air was hushed and cool. The world was taking its rest after a long day. Bem, however, was wide awake. On clear nights, she enjoyed wandering. And tonight was picturesque. The sky was completely clear, the stars shining brightly in the heavens. The sliver of the moon cast a light glow on the savanna.
Bem sighed contentedly. Even for one as not religious as she, Bem couldn't help but feel a heavenly presence. Someone had to create nights like these. A breeze ruffled her silvery hair as she trotted slowly along the plains. She felt no hunger, no thirst, just contentment and perhaps a twinge of loneliness.
Bem had wandered her whole life. It was not a life she loved, nor one she hated. Part of her just couldn't seem to stay tied to a particular place. And with the navigational skills of a rock, she could never travel from a point A to a point B. So she wandered.
A rather large rock formation appeared in the distance. It'd be the perfect place to rest for the night. So humming a songless tune, she quickened her pace slightly and headed over.

This rock formation, which loomed so closely to Bem, was the temporary accomodation of another wilddog. His fur pale as the shimmering moon. Golden eyes watched the stars in silent contemplation. Horatio did not hate the night, but he found it more dangerous than the day, the cackle of hyenas int he distance, the roar of the lion crippling the savannah silence. Or that was the norm. It seemed he had come accross a place where these called had been silenced, nothing but the chirruping song of the crikets broke the moonlit night.
Horatio's ears lifted at the sound of a foot fall though and he slipped elegantly to his paws, holding his broad head up high he serached through the darkness for the creature which pulled him from his almost restful trance.
The lilac markings of his face shimmeerd in the pale moonlight, his blank white coat almost glowing with a strange ephevecance. "Greetings." He whispers, his voice rather low, and even a little slow, though it rang with gentle kindness.

Bem had been mildly surprised to hear the sound of another voice, but it wasn't terribly rare for someone else to occupy such a spot. Part of Bem just wanted to continue on walking, to enjoy the stars in her own little reverie. But another part of her told her to stay.
And so she glanced up at the source of the voice. He wasn't easy to miss, to be sure. A white pelt traced with hints of purple glowed under the moon. Gold eyes held her silver gaze. Bem felt her face flush a bit. He was handsome.
"Hello there," she answered. She climbed up onto the rocks and sat close, but a polite distance away from the male wilddog. She flicked her curly hair out of her eyes.
"I hope I'm not disturbing you."
Her voice was mellow and on the lower side of the female register. It was a calm voice with an air of wisdom about it.

The pale male let a flicker of a smile grace his handsome maw, a quick nod turning his head. "You're not disturbing ma'am, it's always nice to find a friendly face ont he savannah." He whispered again, his voice rather deep though so whispery it sounded full of sweetness.
"Names Horatio, miss, were you enjoying the stars?" He smiles again then a shimmer showing in those honey glazed orbs. "It's a pretty night." He looked to the curly haired femme a brow raised for a second, after all, he was a male, he could appreciate beauty in a female and this one was simply radient in the moonlight.
"I don't often enough get to see such a beautiful evening."

Bem turned her gaze skyward, her eyes sparking. The stars twinkled back. She glanced back at the white male, Horatio.
"I'm glad to here that, Horatio. And yes, it's hard not to appreciate the stars on such a night. These nights are rare, which makes them even more beautiful when they come around."
She smiled at Horatio. A light breeze teased her curls and the grass on the savanna began to dance with the wind.
"My name's Bem. It's a pleasure to meet you."

The pale male smiled lightly his tail giving a swift pleased wag as he moved towards her. "It's nights like this that makes you appreciate being alive." It was a rather philosophical reply really but he often spoke in this manner.
""Are you taking a break on this eve miss Bem? Your mate and pups must miss you ." He whispers his eyes drifting to the stars. "It's nice to see them alone some times, but with company, it can be all the more delightful. Would you like to join me for a while? The crest of these rocks provide the most wonderful view of the world."

Bem smiled at Horatio's poetic words. She was a bit old fashioned in that she enjoyed poetic speech, not the slang often used these days. She nodded in agreement with his words, though her eyebrow raised slightly at the 'mate and pups' line. She suppressed a chuckle and instead returned her gaze to the heavens.
"Indeed. If anything, the stars show us the joy of company," she said, indicating the vast number of stars that together dotted the night sky.
"And yes, I would love to join you," she said, a warm smile lighting up her face.
"And as for the mate and pups, they'll be fine without me..."
She paused coyly, looking Horatio in the eyes. She finished the sentence with a slight chuckle.
"As they don't exist."
She settled down into a comfortable position, now closer to the male dog.
"And what of your family? Are they coping well in your absence?"

The pale male smiled, she was witty, he liked that, it wasn't often he ran accross wild dogs as it was, but running accross a pretty and very smart female was more than interesting to him.
"I'm afraid you're looking at a lone mutt miss Bem." He whispers his voice still rough though always fill of kindness. Turning his muzzle to the sky he gave a little doggish howl to the shimmering moon. He enjoyed howling when the moon was so bright, the shimmering savannah below it and every little dot of imperfection clearly visable.
He turned his golden eyed gaze on the blue-grey femme a grin turning his muzzle. "It's very rare for me to come accross another alone out here, do you come here often?" he chuckled, it sounded like a foolish question even to his ears, it was unusual even for him to feel so open to another, but company was often hard to come by, especially beautiful, witty company.

Bem smiled when Horatio howled. She truly enjoyed that he wasn't completely shy around her. She had that effect on some males. Unintentionally, of course. Whether it was her looks or her serious demeanor, she wasn't sure. She sure could appreciate a male who could be himself around her.
She howled too, a long loud one before turning to the white dog, grin on her muzzle. She couldn't help chuckling a bit at his question, but answered quickly so as not to sound condescending.
"No, I'm afraid I've never been to this particular spot before. To tell the truth, it's a rare day when I know where I'm going."
Bem chuckled embarrassedly. Her lack of direction had always been a problem for her. In fact, she'd been lost so many times in her life, she had just stopped trying to get anywhere in particular. Her lifestyle led to some interesting meetings, to be sure. Some not so enjoyable, some, like tonight, the exact opposite.
"And do you often frequent this particular spot, Horatio?"

For a long howl filled moment the pale, lilac marked male watched Bem as she sang to the moon. He loved the eerie cry of his kindred, although he often found himself alone singing in to the shimmering moonlight. "You have a wonderful voice, it is nice to hear anothers cry so close to paw." He whispers his tail giving a single pleased flicker.
"I come here sometimes, I was born in the den which nestles beneath this formation." He tilts his nose down at the dark opening hidden between the ragged rocks below. "It's dry and warm and smells like home." He paused for a moment his golden eyes looking reminiss of the past. "My family is gone now though so I simply return here for a few days of peace. I don't know why but others seem to steer clear of this place." He rolled his shoulders in a dismissing fashion.
"I suppose you could call it a temporary home of sorts, the place I hang my hat when my hat needs to be hung." he chuckled his eyes resting happily upon the silvery blue femme. "Of course you're welcome to stay a spell, this old place, needs some life occasionally."

Bem couldn't help it, she'd been hoping Horatio would ask her to stay for a while. Wandering had it's perks for sure. She had no rules, no boundaries to live by. She could go where she pleased when she pleased. But, just like everything, wandering alone had it's downsides too. It was a lonely life, a solitary life. Life was made to be lived with others.
Bem reflected on such as she watched the sky. She turned to the male, glad that the night was hiding her blush.
"Thank you, " she said, in response to both his compliment and his offer.
"I've been on the move a lot recently. It would be nice.... really nice to settle down for a spell."
She was going to comment on his family, but it didn't seem appropriate. She felt like she could easily talk to Horatio, but some things were just to impolite to bring up. Especially as they'd known each other for very little.
Realizing she'd just agreed to spend possibly several days with someone she barely knew, Bem couldn't help it, she burst out laughing. Realizing she probably sounded completely insane, she quelled the laughter quickly.
"Erm, sorry about that. I just realized I don't know that much about you, besides your name."

The shimmering white male chuckled quietly his honey golden orbs closing for a moment as he let that laughter shake his pale frame. Those eyes reopened and caught momenterally on bems blue-grey eyes. "Perhaps you should ask some questions then?" He smiled in a sweet, roguish manner "Just to check I'm not some sort of crazy hmm?" He chuckled again, a brow raised in gentle curiosity. This female was lovely, she was challanging him and bringing out all his good assets, something not many creatures could do.
"Perhaps I should ask the same of you?" He paused and pursed his lips. "Though maybe such things can wait and we could sing for a little?" His golden eyes danced cheerily. "It seems a shame to waste the moonlight when it shimmers so brightly." He tilts his head then one of his ears twitching forwards. The moon always called to his heart to sing and it had been a long time since last he sang in harmony with another.

Bem blinked in surpise when Horatio laughed. This guy was full of surprises. She felt her heart warm even more toward him.
At his suggestion, she gave an appreciative chuckle before nodding, her tail swishing contentedly.
"Of course. We shall sing to the moon in celebration of our new friendship."
And maybe more, she added silently, her gaze on Horatio's golden eyes.
"And then I will question you incessantly," she joked before her siver eyes turned toward the moon. She took a deep breath, closed her eyes, and began the duet.

He smiled then his eyes glistening as he tilted his head and sang a long, low mournful tune to the moon. Of course, the song was far from because he was sad, this new friendship, this new feeling of companionship, a feeling of closeness he had not had since he was younger and belonged to a family. His song simply told a tale of times long gone, of sadness in the past. He sang to the moon to remember his family in musical howls.
His nose slowly tilted back to it's natural possition and he let a gentle laugh roll over his lips. He liked this female, she was a step ahead of him at every turn it seemed, her femenine wit and quick responses calling for him to impress.
For a long, silent moment, while the savannah breeze whispered past his ears and ruffled the thick fur around his neck and shoulders he admired the silver blue female before he raised his nose again and called a howl to the moon, this time, the howl was happier, singing, perhaps, of promise, of the future instead of the past, and maybe even of the smooth tongued female whom had wondered in to his lonely life this moonlit eve.

Bem closed her eyes and let herself be lost in the song on this magical night. Some nights were destined to happen, and this was one of them. Their duets finished, the two sat silent for a while, Bem's gaze on the stars. She could feel Horatio's gaze upon her, but she couldn't bring herself to look back at him. There were times she felt truly shy. She'd never admit it though.
After the long silence, Bem broke the spell by turning her gaze back to Horatio.
"That was beautiful." Her voice was quiet.
She cleared her throat awkwardly. She stood, stretched and settled herself comfortably.
"And let the interrogation begin, then," she said jokingly with a small laugh.
"How about.... I ask you a question and you can ask me one back? That way, we both get to know each other."
She gazed back up at the moon. It was morning, to be sure, but they had a few hours before sun-up.
